I dont think we'd necessarily have to build exactly where the current stadium is. There's enough space to build a completely new stadium without touching the footprint of Old Trafford.
Why can't the name stay the same?

If you want a bigger and better stadium than the new Spurs one then that's not likely tn be true, go to Google maps and compare the 2 at the same scale, the footprint of the Spurs stadium is massive in comparision to OT
New stadium. Can have a few nods to the past which would be nice, would love the players to come out from under the managerial dugouts again for example, and can have a modernised version of the famous white cantilever roof. I think the unanimous hope is simply no athletics track and a watertight roof.
I almost think it should be called New Trafford but because, well, that’s what it would be. As long as it’s not sponsor named and keeps the Trafford I think it’ll be fine.

If you include the land that OT currently occupies then there's enough, but I would say that without demoloshing it there might not be, the Spurs footprint is way bigger that I ever imaginedt and we want something bigger than that

Old Trafford being demolished would be a sad day for English football tbh. I think if this was proposed in 2012 United fans would be up in arms. But what's actually changed beyond superficial stuff like a worse-leaking roof? A poor period (relative to history) shouldn't cause fans to put a lesser premium on their heritage. If I were a United fan I'd definitely be in the 'extend not move' camp, just as I would've been for Highbury if it weren't far less viable.

I have to admit that I do miss the charm of the
United have moved stadium before and even changed their name. It's not the end of history to change something, it's part of it. If people are worried that replacing some inanimate concrete and bricks (the majority of which aren't even the originals from 1910 anyway) means that the club will no longer have a real identity or heritage, then I don't think they had much faith in the true value of the club to begin with.

There's some standard issue nostalgia, but yeah granted there aren't many who actually wish we were still back there as their considered opinion - but I think that's because of the obvious un-viability of our listed stadium with its 38,000 capacity. On the other hand OT has 76,000 right now and, I'm guessing here, but could probably go up to 90k? It's very much still a viable option.
True. I guess it depends on the cost overall. If redeveloping the south stand comes at a cost close to what a new stadium would be then I'd go for the new stadium. Because whilst it would be nice to stay where we are with a redeveloped stand, the rest of the stadium still needs work done. And there's probably not much that can be done about the cramped seats and concourses in, for example, the north stand without completely gutting the place anyway.
He could do both and keep Old Trafford as he apparently said. Making it eg Ineos Old Trafford keeps the name, brings in what'll be needed extra millions and most United fans would just call it OT anyway. Other fans would probably call it The Ineos for failed wind up purposes but who gives a toss.
How many cricket folk refer to the ground as the Emirates Old Trafford or The Emirates? Very few. It's just Old Trafford.
The last two names on the taskforce are interesting, Dame Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester and Malcolm Press, Vice-Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University anyone have any ideas on this? I posted in a previous thread that it would be good if the redevelopment included an educational facility (ideally the old Stadium, or part of it) Gary Neville has already built a academy campus nearby, I'd like to see something like this that genuinely benefits the local community instead of luxury apartments.

I'd be all in favour of keeping the name the same. Don't want it being called the Lidl arena or Stadium of Sunny Delight or anything like that.
I have read all of the posts, and there are some good suggestions. But I'm going with "The Cinammons". It just has that snap that you need in a name.
And then factor in that Spurs capacity is 62,000 and we want 90,000 plus.

Looking at this and the Old Trafford one you posted earlier, side by side and at the same scale, there doesn't look room to build a 'Wembley' next to our existing stadium, unless we nick a good part of the container yards and possibly some stuff on the other side of the canal too.
Hopefully that will all be part of the plan
I hate Coe with a vengeance for reasons that would get me sued if I said on here, and Peel Holdings are not well-liked either, but I have to say both of them do get things done, which is what matters to us most at the end of it.

It wouldn't though. It would be New Old Trafford, but that is obviously a bit of a silly name. But "New Trafford" is just nonsensical since the name is from the locality where the stadium is and where the new one will be too, not because a stadium named "Trafford" is old.
Anyway, we should call it "Same Old Trafford".
Maybe Gold Trafford would suit better?

I’m all up for a new stadium. OT is going to new almost a full refurb and surely the cost will be so much it makes sense. I’m no financier but funding a new built alongside a running business for a few years would offset the new build cost as we are still generating full revenue. I’m fortunate to have been to the Aliance arena and Spurs stadium and if we can get stadiums as beautiful as them, but with a 90k capacity, we will have an amazing stadium that will be envied around the world.
