Also, am a bit surprised that no one has yet said that Liverpool are crap and not really in the race.

Liverpool will win the last 10 straight from here. I'd be very surprised if they drop a single point.

They've timed their referee decisions right, after today nobody will dare give a decision against them. Michael Oliver will see City and Newcastle home.

City will be favs obviously but they’ve not been at their rampaging best recently. Nobody will say it but in home games against Brentford , Everton, Chelsea and ourselves it took them a long time to break the opposition down, very unusual for them.
If that keeps happening and you throw in Champions league matches in between they may not always get across the line.

Another thing that nobody will say is that KDB’s legs have gone. There was a lot of “once he’s back city will go up a level” but he’s actually out of form. He was terrible today and if he plays against Arsenal looking like he’s got cement in his shoes. City’s midfield will be in big trouble. Their midfield was garbage today. Between Doku, Alvarez and current form Grealish there’s a fair bit of nothingness in there too.

Liverpool just look outrageously determined but they’re very dodgy away from Anfield so who knows. But if they keep their players fit, I’d make them favourites. Especially as they don’t have any of the really tough away games left. Already done Arsenal, Newcastle, spurs, city away. They’re also less likely to have difficult European games thrown in between so can rest more.

Hopefully Arsenal win it and they’re far more equipped this year than last but there’s just always that fear with Arsenal that they’ll blow up. But they’ve looked the most convincing since the new year out of the three contenders.
That Spurs away game could be a big problem even if they negotiate city away. They also have the old Trafford game which really should be a walk in the park but something weird happens to Arsenal at Old Trafford so who knows.

Anyway COYG.

In the last 20 seasons (including this one) the 3rd placed team after 28 matches has been within 10 points behind the leader 9 times, within 6 points behind the leader 5 times, and within 4 points behind the leader 3 times.

In the 13/14 season the 4th placed team after 28 matches was only 4 points behind the leader, the only time the 4th placed team was within 8 points.

(Note that Tottenham has only played 27 games in the current season as of the publishing of this post and could go 1 point ahead of Aston Villa if they win their next game)

Some actual data! It seems like 09/10 and 13/14 were the closest previously. I can't really remember 09/10 other than Machedaaaaaaa. Surprised that it was that close.

We spent big in the summer, but I think we have spent well. Rice and Havertz have provided more steel and experience to our squad, and overall I think we've learned from the heartbreak of last season. Both Rice and Havertz look to have that clutch gene too. It'll be close, but hopefully we won't fall away limply like we did last season.

Wasn’t 2001/2002 a bit of a 3 horse race between Arsenal, Liverpool and Utd (the only time that Liverpool finished above Utd in the league between 1990/1991 and 2013/2014).

Arsenal ended that season with 13 straight wins though, so they looked to have the clear upper hand with a few games left.

If we are calling this a 3 horse race with over 2 months of the season still to go, then 13/14, 10/11, 07/08 were all 3 horse races.

Didn’t Arsenal spend longer in top spot during the 2013/2014 season than anyone else, despite finishing 4th? Conceding 17 goals away to the 3 teams that finished above them didn’t help, and neither did only picking up 1 point against Moyes’ Utd.

And regarding 2001/2002, I believe that Newcastle were also considered to be title challengers going to March, when they lost 2-0 at home to Arsenal.

Need to wait until we get to matchweek 34/35 in my opinion. The fixture list often creates a bit of a lie with league positions, feel like Pool/City have quite an easy run compared to Arsenal for example.

Didn't they break that record last season?

I love all the talk about us imploding, despite being on an eight game winning run and every metric showing us as a genuinely world class side. That wasn’t the case last season but this current side is so much stronger.

It’s between us and City. We haven’t yet seen their usual end of season form but there’s still time. They could just turn it on at the Etihad in our game and win out from there.

Liverpool are the most injury hit, they don’t have the squad to fight on three fronts and they seem to be getting some big calls against them too. I find it odd that Klopp is leaving because their rebuild shows huge promise, but they won’t win the title.

I'd give Liverpool more chance than you based on them having a manager and number of players who have shown they can handle the pressure of it before. They also might be fighting on three fronts but Klopp is hardly going to prioritise the FA Cup or Europa League, while you and City have the business end of the CL which invariably takes its toll on the league performances

The "metric" of a world class side is one that wins titles. To do that you have to win when the pressure games are coming thick and fast and not just when Sheffield United are serving you up a five goal head start. The only pressure game you've had recently was against Porto and you hammed it up and lost. Lets see how that goes tomorrow because your run in looks the nastiest of the three.

One part of me wants Arsenal to win because Klopp is an insufferable baby and City winning again is just dull. Another bigger part of me can't bring myself to care, especially since the prevailing memory of both you and Liverpool this season is your manager and clubs having a massive embarrassing tantrum meltdown over a VAR decision and then trying to use it to publicly pressure/cheat officials into not daring to give any future decisions against you.

There has been many three even four team title races in PL history. People are just being dramatic this year

So many points to play for still. Still think it’s the usual two that’ll be close and then usual one will win.
