Absolutely hilarious when you look at all those forwards and the amazing seasons most of them are having.

Bowen, Saka, Maddison, Kane, Foden, Palmer, Watkins...

And then.... Rashford. Spot the odd one out
He scored and played well in his most recent appearance for England. Its not as odd as you imagine.

Ben White apparently left the world cup as he was missing his bird.

Lolz at the Henderson selection, Mainoo or Elliot should have been called up.

The squad is top heavy, too many forward players who won't play and not enough midfielders.

Honestly outside of Henderson and Rashford, it's pretty good. I'd maybe have Solanke over Toney though.

Ramsdale (Butland playing regularly and well for Rangers) and Chilwell not even playing in their respective teams. Henderson is shite. 9 forwards in the team when realistically only 3 will start. No Mainoo included and no other replacement for Rice. No Loftus Cheek included who has been playing great for AC Milan. Even TAA gives you an option in midfield.

Feck off Southgate you cnut.

Do we really need Toney, Kane and Watkins?

Should have lobbed another midfielder in there

The starting midfield should consist of Rice, Bellingham and Foden, but Southgate is too scared and inept to make it work unfortunately.

That midfield would get taken apart by a decent side. It may work for lesser teams. Bellingham plays the advance role for Real Madrid and Foden has been playing wide for City. Probably need someone like Mainoo in there with Rice. Sadly we'll get Henderson.

The guy who has played midfield for numerous successful City sides in the top flight and champions league would get taken apart but a guy with 22 career appearances total would work? Got it.

It’s having the balance against a top team not how many appearances someone has made. Got it??

Having Foden and Bellingham in there would isolate Rice and we would get taken apart by a team like France. It doesn’t have to be Mainoo, can be any other 8. That would be good for playing against lower opposition not against top teams. They may have played there but the majority of the times they have played in their best positions.

Is there any other squad where fringe selections get blasted as much as England's?

The success of the team won't hinge on whether Loftus Cheek or Mainoo make the squad. The first 11 is damned near set in stone.

Mainoo should be in contention for starting. Players who are not even in their domestic teams or injured are being picked. A call up to England would be great for some players. There needs to be options with players in form. I would question whether the first 11 is confirmed, I don’t think it is. We have 9 forwards picked for 3 positions. It’s utterly baffling and is just another long line of Southgate masterclass tactics.

not to this extent no, because most other countries don't suffer from the english's degree of hysteria when it comes to the national team. Mostly it's provincialism - fans of a certain club criticizing players from their rival being called up, the usual dumb tribalism

Southgate said there's no issues, and White just doesn't want to be selected.

I wonder if it has something to do with White just not liking football? He see's it as a job, and in that case, the desire to play for your country/ most likely sit on the bench and watch Kyle Walker probably doesn't appeal to him.
Ben White is a blunt and straight to the point kind of guy.

Personally think he just doesn't see the point in travelling when he wont get selected. Why bench warm? He wont even come on if the starting RB gets injured, he is like 3rd/4th choice in Southgates hierarchy.

Iceland. Much smaller talent pool to be fair but we've had guys selected that play in Qatar (worse league than Iceland) and not having played in months. We've had guys selected that have been without club for several months. Gylfi Sigurðsson was selected recently not match fit, not having played football for years and struggling with an injury.

Even though we're small time we still expect our players to be playing regularly in order for them to play.

Apart from LW, and injuries, I'd say it is

Pickford
Walker
Stones
Maguire
Shaw
Rice
Bellingham
Foden
Saka
Kane
LW

Or maybe Henderson/Phillips comes in if Southgate becomes more conservative. Rashford/Chilwell/Tripper as reliable second options.

That lineup is either significantly wasting Bellingham's attacking talents or it's getting pieced up by the first good side they face

Not sure what the situation will be with Shaw/Maguire injury wise. I doubt Foden starts in midfield and another LW. Rice would get isolated and torn apart in midfield. The 8 position is certainly up for grabs as Phillips isn't even in the squad.

Any indication of where Mount will be playing for you guys, now that he's nearly back? If he gets a good run of games, Southgate loves him.
Before Mainoo became a mainstay I would have said alongside Casemiro and Bruno as a #8, but now I don't know.

Too top heavy. Lack of quality CM/DMs

Personally, i would take JWP over some of the strikers that wont play anyway. At least you would have someone that can play in midfield, can cross and /take score some of the best freekicks if needed late in games.

Although he's definitely been one of the bright points of your season, it would probably do Mainoo some good to not play every game at such a young age.

Tem Hag would get dogs abuse for "dropping" him for Mount though.

Rice, Gallagher, Bellingham.
Foden, Kane, Saka.

That would be my starting midfield and attack.

That's obviously not what that poster was saying so your post is very disingenuous.

France is usually (or at least was) terrible for this too.
