Same. She is on standby though, so there is still a chance.
Pre-tournament late injury drama is pretty much a given for the England men’s team so it would hardly be the most surprising thing if she was a late replacement for Bright or Bronze, particularly as both are coming back from injury.

“If you look back five years ago to what we’ve mentioned, if you were to keep that transformation another five years on, then it’s scary how far the club would be advanced.

“I think women’s football is growing at a really rapid rate and it’s up to us and Manchester United to keep up with that and hopefully in the future we’ll have some more stars coming [through].”

ITV have a show with Karen Carney interviewing players. Really liked Zelem on that talking about coming through the centre of excellence and then coming back to United

She should definitely start in the absence of Kiera Walsh in my opinion.
Adds set piece options too.

She is technically brilliant, just needs a runner/destroyer next to her, works great with Ladd and gets overrun without her.

she deserves a chance for England just think it should be with Walsh (type) not instead of.

Yep, I don't think she's a one to one swap with Walsh, but then I don't think England have got a player who is. I think that midfield formation may need a reshuffle. Fingers crossed for England and Katie that Wiegman can find the right combination.

Wiegman certainly did find the right combination (and formation) and I thought Zelem had an exceptional game v China. I don't recall her losing possession or giving the ball away at all and she kept things ticking over in midfield. It was a very confident and assured performance.

So I see Zelem is getting alot of hatred online for being the reason for United struggles in midfield. For not being athletic or quick enough.

What I saw from Zelem this weekend against Leicester was a superb effort from a player who had played 95 minutes x 4 in 11 days. She gave every little effort she could and more, she left everything out there and I was really impress by that. I think she showed more hearth than any other United player.

As you know previously I think Skinner should not overplay her and I agree she has her shortcomings, but the effort she gave was one of the reason I fell in love with this team 5 years ago. There was one situation were a Leicester player launched into a very aggressive tackle and Zelem went straight into it full force, luckily she was not hit.

She does not deserve the mob coming after her claiming she is only Skinners favorite toy to play etc.

Been a huge fan of Katie's since she started playing for us, she clearly loves the club and is happy here. Shame to see people having a go when she works so hard and generally contributes so well.

There's a part of twitter that's had it in for her for years so will always be like that, but the problem at the moment is her shortcomings get more exposed when she's overplayed as she currently is. In spite of that she's always unfailingly good with her delivery which is likely why she's always kept on, but in the long run it's going to bite us. Hopefully Skinner develops a bit of faith in Irene relatively quickly and we can start scoring a few goals earlier so we don't have to hope for some set-piece magic late on.

She’s been a very important part of Man Utd’s rise from the ashes to the heights of English league football. She has seen talented players like Jackie Groenen and Vilde Bøe Risa come and go, and remained central for a reason. I’m interested to see how Naalsund and Miyazawa develop in terms of sharing the midfield burden, because so far, we are a bit too dependent on her, not the other way around.

I am always stunned at the hate she gets, nearly everything good we do goes through her, yes she needs a destroyer next to her, but take her out and we would create nothing.

the hate is even more strange when Toone gets none and has done nothing of note for well over a year, if we are looking to replace a player in the first XI I know where I would start.

I think she gets criticised because Skinner has built the midfield around her and he wants her on the field 100% of the time. That's a tough role, so any mistake or slow response from her, particularly late on, gets pounced on.

I do understand where Skinner is coming from - she is his voice on the field and he has designed the midfield around her. Plus, of course, when we're chasing a goal her set pieces could be decisive. Trouble is, if she's tired, off-form or getting overrun in midfield there's no hiding place - she stays on and her role stays central.

Hate? Are you serious? Hate? Disappear, you absolute troll.

Edit: I misread, but hate?

In 16 matches!

I don't know if that's the same as the "big chances" metric they use in the PL - if it is then it's a huge number. Even if it isn't it's still a lot of chances :smirk:
From the looks of that graphic it’s pretty much all from corners. Men’s team need to get her on set piece coaching.

Very impressive stats. She is the heartbeat of the team, controlling the tempo. I know the England squad is very strong, but she should be in it.
