We've had some mixed results with City since the women's team came into being. Our opening WSL1 match was at the Etihad back in September 2019 when we lost 1-0.

Overall so far W3 D4 L7. City have won the last two derby matches - at Old Trafford in November and then again at their mini stadium in the WSLCup match that ended with us being knocked out. They're WSL's in form team, currently on a ten match winning run. City are level on points at the top with Chelsea but second on GD (32 to Chelsea's 34)

Match is live on BBC1 in the UK and on FAPlayer in lots of countries.

So annoying, it felt like we were going to overtake them last year, but they are unfortunately back with a bang, unlike us this year.

True, and I think I mentioned in another thread that they only signed one player (Roord) in the summer and two in January - so basically the same squad as last season. Admittedly, they did not have to face the disruption of losing players of the quality of Batlle and Russo.

TBF (and I don't like to be when it's City!) they lost Walsh and Stanway the year before

This is true - but I was actually measuring last season to this one. That said, it could go some way to explaining why they were not as strong last year. I'll shut up now!

It took time for them to adapt. Keira Walsh in particular was a huge loss for them. Ellen White and Jill Scott retired. They also had a couple of ageing players like Steph Houghton who were heading from being key players to being bit part players.

The changing of the guard really and a lot of the players coming in were new to living in England as well as to playing for City.

I think it’s just for me that their replacements went a bit under the radar, and I was hoping their evil owners were losing sight of the road a bit

Did Skinner just say “mentality derby” in the pre-match interview?
He really is difficult to listen to.

Should be ahead. We’ve had two or three more than decent chances. I hope we don’t live to regret missing those.

That was pretty dumb from Blundell after just getting booked. Lucky not to get a second yellow

Same shite officiating as the men's game I see. Was a mile offside aswell.

Official actually has her eyes open this time and see the offside. Thankfully.

Shaw has the cheek to look shocked at being called offside there (she was a country mile off) after getting away with it a minute earlier

At least in the men’s game this would’ve been disallowed in 20 seconds.

We had started fairly well, had a few chances just not taken them. Then they get a shite offside goal. Typical.

Our record against the big three is just so bad, and I can’t see it getting better anytime soon. Arsenal, Chelsea and City just take women’s football far more seriously than we do.

3-1. Blundell’s cross deflected in. Lucky, but the least we deserved after the injustice of the first goal.

We seem to have started playing again now. Geyse remains the most frustrating player though. Had plenty of opportunities to create something but she’s spent the whole match just smashing the ball against defender’s shins, and then sulking because they didn’t conveniently step out of the way for her. She needs to sort out that attitude.

Yes the first goal was a shocker but no excuse for dropping heads and conceding two more
