PaulScholes18

Zlatan Tactics

Classic 442

begkamp to drop off and feed Ronaldo
Essien to cover crerand going forward, paddy can used his vision to play in the wingers either side or Ronaldo on the break.
2 attacking fullbacks
2 solid centre backs

Peaks

Zoff Napoli

Shesternyov career - USSR
Adams career - jail card
Liazarazu Bayern
Lahm Bayern

Crerand Celtic
Essien career - Africa
Di livio 2002 World Cup 34+
Giggs United

Bergkamp ajax
ronaldo 1998 World Cup

PaulScholes18 Tactics

Player peaks

All player peaks are career apart from Luka Modric who is Real Madrid, which is arguably his best peak anyway, and also Van Dijk which is Celtic.

Standard Formation
4-2-3-1

Out of possession
4-4-1-1

In possession
3-2-5

With Brehme holding the width on the left with Santos staying back and Garrincha holding the width on the right.

With the ball we will look to transition quickly from defence to attack to maximise the pace of Garrincha and Blokhin to their fullest potential.

with the pace of van Dijk and Santos this allows us to play a high line and press from the front.

2 great teams on first sight.

That is, if one thinks 3 dribbling freaks works for ps18, but I love the sheer madness of it. (CB sides may be switched? But not really important.)

And a few words on Crerand would be nice.

Good structures those. Need to be educated on G. Baresi as I thought he was a CB.

Di Livio is my favourite pick on the board.

Blokhin against Shesternyov - how are you calling that @harms?

Blokhin was a better forward than Shesternyov was a defender, that's for sure, so even with the latter's great pace I'd bet on Blokhin in a 1 on 1. But I'm not really sure if that attack is complimentary. Blokhin can work as a number 9 but Hazard & Garrincha don't feel like ideal partners for him.

Pat was signed by Celtic from Duntocher Hibs in 1957 and made his debut in a 3-1 league victory over Queen of the South a year later. He was an aggressive right half with an attacking mindset and his passion for Celtic made him an instant fan favourite. Incisive passing, tough tackling and a ferocious shot made him a formidable midfielder, but Pat could be known to lose his discipline on occasion. As such, Celtic Chairman Robert Kelly clamped down hard on the player and the relationship between the pair was frosty.

Crerand was a delicate passer of the ball, He was the type of player capable of bringing the ball from his own box and deftly turning defence into attack. His courage, moral and physical, was never in doubt; traits clearly evident for a lifetime.

I disagree that soctrates is going run riot in the midfield. He’ll have a lot to do on his own. Crerand was a terrier and will not leave him alone aswel as Essien being a beast at shutting things down.

I’d be more looking at baresi as your cdm and how he’s going to handle crerand when he gets forward and bergkamp dropping into the hole. Any words on g baresi?

I think my team, although maybe be dull as dishwater  Is far more balanced and actual team of players who will work together and play a decent game. Hard to break down, world class full backs and phenomeno and bergkamp upfront, come on, that’s a mouth watering pairing. I actually love the thought of those 2 together

And being picky. Van dijk should have Celtic on the graphic if modric has. It’s not the best the premier league has everrrrrrr seen centre back van dijk. He’s going to get rinsed by phenomeno

And one more thing sorry, I don’t think Garrincha is going to be one for tracking back so giggs will be 1v1 against santos most of the match which is bound to give at some point

@paulscholes18 Do you have anything on Giuseppe Baresi?
The small bit of research I did since I hadn’t heard of him before landing on the brother square, Seemed to be a bit of a John O’Shea in the sense that he could play anywhere in defence or as a defensive midfielder, he did Captian them when he won his 2nd Serie A title. And won (inter Milan’s) player of the season in 86.

Gone for PS. I think he has too much creativity to be kept out and Zlatan could do with a better passer at CB to help with fast transitions he needs.

Voted Zlatan initially but reluctantly changed to PS.

Was a chemistry vs personnel battle and lack of explanation on G. Baresi tilted my vote towards Zlatan. But having read on him a bit today, seems like he did play as a DM a fair bit, so giving the benefit of the doubt to PS. Also has way more of a upward potential as a team once he sorts the chemistry of the attack.

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.
I'll go with Zlatan by a whisker as I love the balance of that 4-4-2. Always nice when an unheralded sort like Di Livio rounds out a team so well. Really good FBs, and obviously a striker partnership that can hurt a defence in myriad ways.

Going with zlatan by a hair. I’m really not a fan of Crerand and Di Livio, especially the former who is absolute meh even given the pool. However I like the overall fit and the Fenomeno / Bergkamp combo

Yeah there are certainly positions that could do with better players but the balance and chemistry is something I always go for first

Think Scholes has more quality in certain areas but not sure about the gameplan. Blokhin as a lone striker seems off to me, and I can't buy Garrincha/Hazard/Socrates as part of a team that presses from the front. I'm sort of with Enigma as I'd like to see Crerand and Di Livio upgraded, but the front two are perfect and the full-backs are great counters to Garrincha and Hazard.

Given his defensive ability I don't mind Di Livio in a 4-4-2 with the right type of fullback behind him which would either be an ultra attacking fullback such as Alexander-Arnold to cover defensive weaknesses or an inverted fullback such as Lahm or Cancelo so that the inverted fullback has more freedom to provide a 3rd player in central midfield without leaving defensive weaknesses on the flank.

Yeah if the right back was Dani Alves I’d agree with you. However with one of the most tactically and defensively sound in Lahm I see no point in him, especially when you have Crerand and Essien in the middle which doesn’t creativity either.
When you also factor in Adams and Shestenyov there is serious lack of creativity in the spine.

I’m not sure who was available at the time but anyone of Matthews, Di Maria or even Cubilla would be a better fit considering the more industrious central midfield.

I had to find a winger who played in a World Cup over the age of 34. Choices were limited to say the least

To be fair, as evident in this game, sometimes these tactical fit based picks win you votes, so I'd say that worked.

I remember beating you once because I had Zagallo in my team and that impressed people for the same reason, so I can understand

Yeah the option almost made me change my formation that I wanted to use but you know me and 442 plus I really wanted phenomeno to have a strike partner and someone like bergkamp was too good to drop so always had to keep the two up top. In the end I thought di livio was a good fit and balance but knew he’d get picked up on.

I was thinking Lahm fell into the 2nd category I mentioned where Di Livio's defensive ability gives Lahm more freedom to invert into central midfield making it a 3 man midfield often enough to mitigate one of the weaknesses of a 4-4-2 (numbers in a central midfield battle) which isn't necessarily that important in this match up but can generically be useful.

I think I may have won this depending on the weird comment and vote thing. If so I’m surprised, I thought I’d get smashed when I seen Garrincha in the line up

I was thinking that given the opposition are sporting Brehme then Di Livio is as good as it gets in keeping tabs on him.
