Being the players I'll be comparing today's crop against have largely left the club I reckon I know what the answer will be but what the hell; where do today's young player rank against those that were previously tipped to 'make it' at United

Giuseppe Rossi vs Kiko Macheda

Ebanks Blake vs Danny Welbeck

Chris Eagles vs Tom Cleverley

Kieran Richardson vs ???

Obviously should anyone who watches the reserves more than I do have any comparisons they think are worth mentioning go for it :)

Rossi was rated even higher than Macheda. I think it took a lot people by surprise when he left because he was quality during his loan at Parma and people were really excited to see him kick on.

Ebanks Blake was never particularly highly rated, as opposed to Welbeck who is generally considered the brightest prospect to come out of our academy in years.

Chris Eagles was rated reasonably highly around the time he made his debut in 2003 (two first team appearances) but then fell mostly off the radar - he went on a series of loans of varying success and then popped up again with a few appearances at the end of 2006/7 and at the start of 2007/8, although by that point everyone knew that he was on borrowed time really. His was a case of being rated quite well when in the academy and reserves, but his loan spells tempering this excitement, whereas with Cleverley it's mostly the other way around.

Rossi was completely tearing the youth apart, so he was rated higher than Macheda.

Welbeck is rated higher than ebanks blake was.

Chris Eagles vs Cleverley...hmm, i'm not sure anymore because of the praise i've heard from a Watford supporting friend who was absolutely creaming himself over him, so thats kind of smeared my judgement, particularly as I cant remember too much praise for eagles, so i'll go with Cleverley.

I am not a man........I am Cantona
Blake would have scored alot more goals than welbeck but wasnt as highly rated.

Eagles was always technically talented but mentally he wasnt a United player imo. Cleverley on the other hand seems a very intelligent player
