I assume the figures are close to correct, nobody has said otherwise.

P.S. do Man City have any 36 year old players on £2 million a month?
Close to correct? Those figures are nonsense. Go and check the official figures published by club accounts for FY.

Amazing people are so lazy that they pluck numbers from spotrac, sportskeeda or some bs site instead of trying to find out from good sources or from club official accounts.

Because of things like this:

https://www.planetfootball.com/quic...s-wage-bill-compare-to-their-league-position/

Manchester United in 1st place - total wage bill: £227million, but league position: 6th and unlikely to win the League this year, either.
Who would be good in the knockout round of the CL for Utd’s progression? Is the draw tomorrow?
But you post random shit like this when there are threads for it already. You're probably just an oppo fan on the wind up

To be fair, I'm not the only person who discusses stuff on this thread.

I apologise if I sometimes put stuff here that is discussed elsewhere, I have just got into the habit of putting my points on here (when I don't have much time). To be fair, they are pretty much all related to the overall situation i.e. Utd. are 4 years since winning a trophy and almost a decade since winning the Premier League - that should not be left to disappear into threads from days gone, not for a club with Utd's global prominence and finances.

Obviously, in May 2022 this thread might come to a natural end (or be edited to say 5-years-without-a-trophy) let's see shall we?

*P.S. Look on the Hudderfield Town cafe; they have a '96-years-without-a-title' thread, so be grateful things are not quite that bad!

With the new reset i am more confident about next season than any other season since Fergie. This season the only realistic trophy left is FA cup, but next season the anticipation is really high.

Its always next season. Want us to go all out for Haaland rather than keep a 37 Ronaldo on massive wages.

I believe we are still far from a trophy even with Ronaldo here. I would rather we played the young lads consistently for 3/4 years until we are able to compete as a team, then add 1/2 world class signings. Young players like Mason, Sancho, Rashy, Amad, Hannibal, Elanga should be given a full chance. CR7 should be in a supporting role.

I don't think we are ready to win the EPL for another 3 years, so I would rather we cultivate an identity around the young players - Mason, Rashy, Amad and Sancho as the 4 attackers, and drop Bruno in midfield with either Fred/Mctominay/DvB/Pogba. I believe that in 3/4 years of consistent football, these players can become world beaters.

We don't even know who the manager will be yet, steady on. My expectations won't be high if we end up hiring Poch.

With CR7, trophies will definitely come.
Will probably take more than that, unless our caretaker does absolutely marvellously to transform us into a team who can compete in Europe.
The FA cup needs good luck with draws.

They would have done only Ronaldo signed for us.
I just get the feeling that City wouldn't have signed CR?? Did the club say this to make out we did the right thing and signed him before Shitty??

Could be. I don't think we'd link him to City just as a stunt but in the Machiavellian world of football, who knows.

I think we're miles away from winning anything significant (league title, champions League).

I've actually come to terms with us not winning anything for the forseeable future. We're such a badly run club, it's quite astonishing really.

I see United fans discussing the possibility of us signing the likes of Haaland, but there's no chance, absolutely no chance of singing this lad.

Hard to say. CR7 and Varane have lots of experiences in winning the CL.

And Pogba has been to multiple semifinals and finals.

We should absolutely challenge for the league title next season. We're a step away from winning it though, but the current team is good enough to be closer to the top.

As for CL it's way too early for us.

According to multiple reports we highjacked their deal with multiple ManUtd figures including Ferguson calling Ronaldo to change his mind.

So I don't know why you said it wouldn't have happened, it would definitely had.

I actually think we have a better chance at winning the UCL than the league.

Not that we are strong candidates, but in a KO tournament you get an easy path find yourself in the semifinals and anything can happen from there.

In the league is another story, you need consistency for 38 games. With City and Liverpool you need to win at least 30 of those which makes it extremely hard to achieve.

with all the players leaving in the summer and an older ronaldo leading the line? Not only do we not know our manager we don't even know who will replace these players. If we didn't win it this season how is a weaker version of the same squad supposed to make noise? Every signing next summer has to be a smash hit for us to win major trophies.

I hope we go all out for the FA Cup. Full strength every possible game.

Walk before you can run.
Refreshing to read someone valuing domestic trophies on this board. We saw how the whole, ‘forget about winning trophies then get mad when you don’t eventually challenge for the league’ went.

We should go all out for the FA Cup & chance the UCL if possible.

I don’t get this “We need 3 more years, first challenge then win” reasoning. Teams don’t progress linearly, nor do they slowly build up to culminate in winning trophies. We don’t live in a vacuum, teams around us are also trying to improve every season. This whole plan of adapt 1 season, challenge in the 2nd (whatever that means) and win in the 3rd won’t work. Who knows, by the third season there might a new club like Newcastle spending heavily and competing for trophies too.

Look at teams like City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Especially Chelsea, they change managers and almost instantly win things. Liverpool were battling for top 4 with us, then suddenly went on to become one of the best teams in Europe. New players and managers can drastically affect results and trophies.

We have a decent enough squad to go deep into a competition at least (and theres always luck involved here). A new manager, and 2/3 signings could totally transform us to a new team. Of course, it could not end up great as well. But I don’t buy the whole “progression” theory.

I think with the form of the London teams, at some point Rangnick will have a difficult decision to make, namely to proritise winning the CL (as a route back into the tournament next year) and/or the FA Cup run, to finally knock this hoodoo on its head.

Ralf should play the kids/reserves in the FA Cup. League & getting as far into the CL is what is important. Also it’s invaluable experience for the kids too.

For me, this was the season to win something, adding Ronaldo and Varane gave Ole the belief it was the time to go head to head with the likes of Liverpool and City. It failed massively but as far as the "project" was concerned it was in the final stages.

Now that has ended, and United need to start a new one, the worry is United stick with the same players that still have question marks still hanging over them and try to force them into Ralf's plans.

Only really care about the league and CL tbh. Getting back to the good times is the biggest trophies. Top 4 and hope to god we can get a jammy win in the CL.

The entire project thing is a joke, Tuchel won champions league within months. United's squad is good, just the management and mentality isn't. That's the project, getting Harry Maguire stripped of the captaincy and stop rewarding poor performances.

The Tuchel example is not really a blueprint for how to run a football club in my view. If he wins nothing this season then what conclusions can you make? I guess United should hire Di Matteo before the CL starts again in Feb :)

If United have a poor end to this season - no trophy and no top-4 slot, I assume that Ralph Rangnick will still be a consultant for the following two years - there was a legally binding contract for that, yes?

But in practice, how would that work out - what top manager is going to want to come to United if they are not in the 2022-23 Champions League and also if they have to work with a 'consultant' over-seeing them - especially a consultant who failed in the role they are consulting on.....

He should have been stripped of that role after the thing in Greece in my opinion - I know he was sticking up for his sister, but why get yourself into that situation in the first place. On the money he is on he could take himself and his whole family to some exclusive, discreet and safe resort where there would be no trouble. Silly boy.

Its like when these top footballers get arrested for drink driving and the like, drives me crazy. For approx one weeks wages they could employ a chauffeur for a year (and if any players are reading this, I'm free for such a job) to be at their beck and call 24/7 - so why risk it?
