We all know that they are great pals and with him having been sacked from the manager's position at Everton, is there really the possibility that Fergie will bring in his old mate as his number 2? This is what I've heard on a grapevine. I actually think this guy might be allright as a number two but I abhor the thought of him as our manager.

I think what we need is a guy who's more in the 'trainer mould' rather than the 'manager mould'.....

I'd be happy with a change in the assistant manager situation right now...

Walter would be alright for the job actually...

Very experienced and would almost certainly add alot to the current setup...

Shit, I'm talking like Gazza again...

Well we don't have an assistant manager at present but do we need one and if so what would he bring to the club. McClaren had a great rep as a training pitch coach. I think this is what we could be in need of. I'm not sure if Smith fits into that requirement actually. Anyway, what do I know about the managing, coaching etc etc of a pro football team?

Do you guys think Fergie will find himself a new no.2 this summer, or go solo thus taking all the credit for all the trophies himself??

Yes, I know. If you read my later post you'll see that I have acknowledged that the barefaced liars at planetfootball have got hold of the story too. I, on the other hand, heard this from Evertonians (your hated foe) who got the Moyes thing spot on a week ago.

Personally id hate the tought of either of em coming to Utd what with them being former Rangers scum and the one being a traitior but i wouldnt be surprised to see Know and Smith turning up at the summer.
Smith was a decent assistent @ Rangers which in my opinion is his best position. Knox perhaps could be taken on in a coaching role.

Ive forgiven him for that, he holds a bit of a grudge against them which is nice ;) . The fact that he succeded in Scotland with Aberdeen helps too.
It pissed me off that we signed Goram last season though, of all the scummiest Rangers scum he's the all time scummiest  . Id love to know what Keano made of it all. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Damning verdict on Smith's performance at Everton as relayed to a mate via a national journo:

- 'they are incredibly unfit - most of them only have 30 minutes in them at full tempo'
- 'the team is just too old'
- 'they need to be shaken up'

We don't need old school coaches at OT thanks.

WS proved himself a good coach at Dundee United when Jim McLean was manager, also at Rangers under GS.
SAF has worked with him in the past, he knows what he will be getting, if he wants him as his asst.
Don't hold the Rangers thing against him, he was the best, most down to earth manager they have had in recent years, until now.
Keeping Everton in the PL was a feat in itself surely, with a nett spend of 27p over 4 years, probably the old timers he had to assemble could only manage half an hour at full tempo, but he could do a job at OT, definitely.
