I actually think inside forwards is the right sort of width, City destroyed them by keeping the ball and having out to in runs.
Doing it’s a different matter entirely, I just hope we keep James etc going backwards or having them freeze a little. It’s a tough ask
The first and most important key to City victory there is the ability to dominate possession. Very few team can dominate possession against this Chelsea team unfortunately. I don't see us having that.

Cancelo, Walker provided the width, so their inside forward can drift and exploit the gap between the wing backs and CBs. It's a whole system work. Not just an unit. Liverpool with less extend of domination, despite having the width from full backs, and inside forwards was well contained by Chelsea.

I think we're fecked if they score as we'll likely capitulate and have no way back. Hopefully keep it 0-0 as long as possible.

    Ronnie (if fit)
    Rashford Bruno Sancho
    Fred Matic
    Telles Lindelof Bailly AWB
    DDG

The line up picks itself. Just please drop McT and Maguire (yeah right)

    What's Cavani's injury situation?

Maguire is suspended so Carrick won’t have to make the judgement call.

We all want Chelsea to win the league anyway so this game should be an experiment to see what happens when we go up against a top side and don’t play like petrified cowards.

I think Carrick will try to match them up almost.
Back 5 with Shaw the LCB & Telles/Dallot as LWB.
It will be interesting to see if he starts Donny again & uses Bruno as an impact sub.
Rashford+Ronaldo have to start so we have a counter threat if he does go down this route.

I imagine Carrick will try to park the bus but we just don't have the defenders for it, I can't see anything but us getting slapped up here.

We can get a result from this game if we learn to adjust. Chelsea will press us, put a lot of pressure on the front foot. They will stay tight, high balls managed by Silva and look to get as many set peices as possible. The unique thing about there team is anyone is capable of scoring. I wouod select

    De Gea

    AWB Bailey Lindeloff Shaw
    Donny Fred Bruno
    Sancho Ronaldo Lingard

We need players on the pitch willing to track back and do a job. I'd have Fred sitting and breaking up play, likited responsibility to find a pass, just keep it simple. Bruno ability to track back is key in this game, I'd have him deeper than usual and trting to dictate from the centre. Donny can push forward a bit more. Sancho showed yesterdat he can track back, Ronaldo is Ronaldo and Lingard over Rashy and Martial because of his work effort up and down the pitch.

    Sancho Ronaldo Rashford
No brainer starting 11 considering who is fit/injured, and it's a good 11, but I have no faith in us getting anything against a top team like Chelsea.

Havertz is the big threat. Lukaku will obviously score, predictable.

Mount is nothing to worry about.

I’ll go for 1-1 but if anyone gets a winner then it’ll be Chelsea

What does Carrick have to lose? I hope he goes for it. If we get spanked, it was expected anyway so whatever.

Carrick now has the opportunity in a few games to create a narrative "Ole was holding me back, I actually can manage a team".

If it works for him, he might have a good chance at a manager job for a smaller club next. If he goes on a suicide mission I don't think so.

Not a suicide mission if everyone expects the same outcome.

I put fred and mctominay at wing back positions because that is Chelsea's main threat and believe their work rate, energy and discipline to stick to what is instructed of them will make them good options and are better defensively in terms of doing a "job" of tracking back with Chelsea's wing backs.

I also have sancho, lingard, vdb and matic Almost as a midfield diamond as we desperately need to be able to start getting a grip of games in midfield and controlling the tempo and would say these 4 players are technically our best options on the ball to help retain possession under pressure.

I hate playing teams with a caretaker or new manager, never know what to expect.

No Kante/Kova/Chilly/Havertz and a half fit Mount/Werner/Lukaku is big but hopefully we should have enough.

Just Maguire out for you lot, right? Will Shaw be allowed to play?

Don't worry mate, Chelsea (the saviours of football) can beat any team in the world, with or without a caretaker or new manager. :D

NO McTominay. That's all I ask. If we play like we did yesterday think we will be in real trouble.

Alonso's position will be Chelsea's very obvious and possibly only glaring weakness in this match that can be exploited.

With fresh injury concerns for Chelsea, United have a chance of creating an upset.

I hope Shaw is not allowed, his defensive skills haven't been that great in the last games.

Every time the consensus on here has been an easy Chelsea win, you lot have have put in a performance and beaten us comfortably. Not confident about this game at all.

I'd like to see the odds for United not getting a shot on target during the game. A good safe bet right there.

Chilwell too. They've got such a depth that it doesn't even matter if some players are missing
Our own team is stacked with talented players.
The difference is that they are a well-coached/drilled team. We have the talent but are poorly coached by Carrick, McKenna and co.
I'd much rather that Ole had stayed but all coaches were removed, but I guess it's easier to just get rid of one man than 3.
