But they take the cups so seriously so the likelihood is we'd have to beat them in the FA Cup as well

We're not a side that's ready to win trophies, priority should have been the league and try to be the best of the shit and scrape 4th place. Should have thrown the league cup when we went to Chelsea as well (albeit we'd of missed out on Rashford's goal of the season)
I just dont agree with that logic. We're set up to be a cup team. We are young, good in one off games and have a decent big game record. Our strongest 11 is quite good, but our depth is horrendous. That all points to a team that should focus on the cups as we just dont have the personnel to be consistent in the league, as we've seen.

League is your bread and butter though, what do you do with those games if not try your best to win them and thus try and finish as high as you can?

Obviously nobody can just give up, but you reach a point where you need to prioritize (usually at the new year when you start getting 2 games a week). We haven't been consistent all year for understandable reasons, you still try to win but when forced to pick, we should do what we did in 2016/17. Prioritize the Europa League because it was far more realistic to win that then get top 4. The league is a marker of how good a squad is, but you dont need a big squad to be a good cup team.

Oh absolutely once the EL starts up again I 100% see value in prioritising that competition but only because it gives us a back door entry to what we've tried to do in the league

Tranmere definitely the better option. Watford rested all their starters so they would have been fresh and up for it on Sunday against our lot who can barely break into a fast walk at the moment. Tranmere are fielding the strongest side they have and they are playing 120 minutes with half of them showing signs of cramp even before extra time began. I don't really fancy our boys having to play on that pitch but if we can get an early goal we could well stroll it.

Nice one Tranmere! Serves Watford right for that dreadful lineup, albeit only being 2 days after their last game.

But we can and have lost to Watford, so Tranmere is a much better bet, closer too.

Win without a replay! Imagine the carnage trying to shift your tickets for that one!

Our players just have to picture 11 Mike Deans running around when we play this lot at the weekend. That should motivate them to smash 'em to pieces.

Can ole survive a loss to Tranmere ?
What happens in domestic cups matters little (just ask Van Gaal) Ole will be sacked once 4th is officially out of reach and out of the Europa league. At the moment that looks like next month.

We will probably get a replay and one more game from that one. More injuries to follow and no new signings. That is my end of January prediction.

Just back from Prenton Park and then a trip to the local with several of the TRFC team, they're knackered after 120 mins tbh but thrilled with the performance and a thoroughly deserved win against an albeit weakened Watford team.... short break til the next game and in truth, Utd should win comfortably... just remember that there isn't much grass on the pitch atm... oh the glory of the FA Cup!
