"I'm not going to comment on Erik ten Hag because I think it would be inappropriate to do that," said Ratcliffe.

"But if you look at the 11 years that have gone since David Gill and Sir Alex have stepped down, there have been a whole series of coaches, some of which were very good. And none of them were successful, or survived for very long. And you can't blame all the coaches.

"The only conclusion you can draw is that the environment in which they were working, didn't work. And Erik's been in that environment. I'm talking about the organisation, the people in the structure, and the atmosphere in the club.

"We have to do that bit. So I'm not really focused on the coach. I'm focused on getting that bit right. And it's not for me to judge that anyway. I'm not a football professional."

Ye definitely and that's clearly the bit that needs sorting first, partly why ETH will get extra time to prove himself.

But I doubt he's going to get a completely free pass, there will still be minimum levels.

Nice find - interesting to look back at what they did before, but Sir Jim said himself this week that INEOS made a lot of mistakes at Nice that they dont want to repeat again so I dont know how much we can read into how they operated a few years back.

Personally, Im happy to give ETH until end of season and reassess.

But Entwistle's understanding is that Brailsford is more of a fan than an expert and when the British cycling supremo took a step back to focus on the United bid, things began to run smoother at Nice.

Title of that last article is clickbait because Brailsford and Ashworth have known each other well for years so weird to suggest there was any disagreement over it. Their personal relationship is one of the reasons that Ashworth is ready to jump ship from Newcastle.

Still not that clear what exactly Brailsford's role is at the club though - people thought Brailsford or Blanc might be CEO or board directors but actually neither have any official role at Man United, yet Brailsford is always the one at the matches (sat with Fergie again last night) and clearly heavily involved in the restructure.
