Team Michaelf

My team will play a 4-3-3 formation. In goal we have Oliver Kahn who was player of the tournament at the 2002 World Cup. Partnering the brilliant Baresi in the center of defence is Fulvio Collovati who was part of the team of the tournament at the 1982 World Cup. At fullback we have the defensive solidity of Hottges on the right who was in the Kicker Bundesliga team of the season 3 times as well as winning 66 caps for West Germany and the skill of Ze Roberto providing width on the left.

In midfield, Graeme Souness will play as a holding midfielder with Falcao looking to create opportunities from deep with Bobby Charlton surging forward from midfield to make full use of his marvelous shooting abilities as well as his liking for long range passes helping to get the best out of Rummenigge up front.

In attack, on the right we have the timeless wing wizardry of Stanley Matthews to take full advantage of the opponents injury problems at LB. On the left we have Samuel Eto'o who will use his pace, strength and aerial ability to make the most of Matthews crossing. Centrally we have Karl-Heinz Rummenigge who was in the Kicker Bundesliga team of the season for 6 consecutive seasons winning the Ballon d'Or in 1980 and 1981.




Team P-nut

Villa and Messi as split strikers attacking the channels. Maicon and Conti provide the width to stretch the pitch. Keane in his B2B role and Busquets as a deeper controller. Rivaldo moves central and allows a fluency in attack being able to push forward and take advantage of gaps the front 2 will create.
 
I really like the look at P-Nut's side but Biscuits looks really out of place. @P-Nut Can you sell his role to me?

not perfect but its fine personnel wise as we have no idea how the team should supposed to play. Have no idea who p-nuts got injured but if Silva is available id take him over Rivaldo as he would glue that team much better and you dont really need Rivaldo with Villa and Messi in the team. Silva would just elevate both Messi and Bus so id always go with him in this setup.
 
I like this team from Pnut much more than the ones in the first two rounds. Only change I would probably make is lining up the front 3 as below.

Rivaldo------Villa
---------Messi------

For Michael, Charlton is a welcome addition, the midfield looks great with more variety as compared to with Falcao/Scholes.

Only problem I see is Ze Roberto and Collovati against Messi might get out if hands.

Busquets is the controller. You could see it as a 3 man midfield set up with each on different horizontal axis Busquets deeper than Keane who again is deeper than Rivaldo.

As for why Rivaldo over Kaka or Silva, it's purely his ability to play closer to goal and be more of a goal threat. I did originally put Silva in place, but felt the goal burden on Messi would be too high, even if he is theoretically capable of carrying the entire team.

Adding Rivaldo in place of Silva adds a goal threat down the middle, keeping the opposition CBs that bit narrower and opening the spaces more in the channels behind the full backs for Messi and Villa both to peel in behind and cut in towards goal.

In practice I can see it working much like Brazil 2002 where Ronaldo (Villa) stretched the back line, while Rivaldo and Ronaldinho (Messi) shared creative duties. Looks well balanced based on that rather successful model.
 
Mike has a better team but reckon Messi wins this for p-nut
 
Honestly,I really like P-Nut team.You send only 2creative players(not3) and both players in forward line can drift wide to operate the space for Messi.It looks good and balance now.

Ze Roberto will face Messi a lot of times(when he drifts wide to dribble)and he will meet some troubles.

Rivaldo is sometimes ball-hogging player and a lot of times he hold the ball a bit much at times but mann...this guy could make your team more unstoppable(due to his goalscoring reords )and he could do some amazing moments that people never expect too.

Three scoring options of your team havevthe abilities to make20+goals and can fit together.i'm not concern since he had an experience to play with young Dinho and 26years old R9(despite it's not the same for Villa and Messi).
 
I think the decisive advantage for me in this match is the Matthews-Eto'o combination as I don't see either Conti or Ayala being able to stop Matthews from consistently putting in crosses nor are Schulz and Carlos Alberto the ideal defenders in my mind for stopping Eto'o converting the crosses from Matthews (I'd prefer a Kohler/Desailly/Vidic type or even a Terry for that job).

I also think Kahn over Lehmann as goalie is an important advantage.

Whilst Matthews is likely your biggest advantage on the pitch, Eto'o also isn't the exact type that is going to win towering headers time and again. Alberto even transitioned into play CB late in his career so dealing with crosses isn't going to be some nightmare scenario for him.

Also, whilst Kahn is better than Lehmann the gap isn't really that huge with Lehmann being one of the best keeper in the world during his time at Arsenal, and his style actually being perfectly suited to coming for crosses and commanding his area.

I’m really not sure why he has singled out Eto’o when Kalle is the one who was incredible at this — I’d imagine that he’ll be the one to find himself at the end of Matthews’ crosses and Eto’o would fill in the space that Kalle would leave behind.
 
I went with my heart even though there’s an equally possible probability that Messi would win this game for P-Nut.

Love P-Nut but hate his team. Messi and Rivaldo look really off in this sort of setup as it looks like you’d need Messi to do a bit of running off the ball and that’s really the worst thing you can use him for. I dislike the balance between the wingbacks and wide CBs and Biscuits is an overrated pointless hack in most setups. No idea how this team is trying to play and cannot see them being remotely successful.
