    Know The Opposition

Manchester City Football Club (nicknamed City, The Citizens, and The Sky Blues), are a professional football club based in Manchester, England. City were founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), before being renamed as Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887, and finally Manchester City in 1894 - and the origins can be traced back to members of St. Mark's Church of England, West Gorton — who founded the football club that would become known as Manchester City, for largely humanitarian purposes. Two church wardens sought to curb local gang violence and alcoholism by instituting new activities for local men, whilst high unemployment plagued East Manchester, specifically Gorton. All men were welcome to join, regardless of religion.

The team's first recorded match occurred on 13 November 1880, and City gained their first honors by winning the Second Division in 1899 — with it came promotion to the highest level in English football, the First Division. In the seasons following the FA Cup triumph of 1904, the club was dogged by allegations of financial irregularities, culminating in the suspension of seventeen players in 1904, including captain Billy Meredith, who subsequently moved across town to Manchester United. Almost half a century later later, a City team inspired by a tactical system known as the Revie Plan reached consecutive FA Cup finals again, in 1955 and 1956; just as in the 1930s, they lost the first one, to Newcastle United, and won the second. The club continued to challenge for honors throughout the 1970s, finishing one point behind the league champions on two occasions and reaching the final of the 1974 League Cup.

Prior to the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, the club had enjoyed moderate levels of success through their history — however, since the start of the current decade, City have been buoyed by the signings of Sergio Agüero, Yaya Touré, David Silva, Vincent Kompany — and have emerged as perpetual title contenders, winning the league 7 times in 11 years and repeatedly finishing in the Top 3. City play their homes games at the Etihad Stadium, and their biggest rivals are neighbors and opponents for the game, Manchester United.

Think we're all set to have our worst result ever.

It never happens when you expect it though so probably not and we'll lose in a tight 1-0.

Begging for a miracle to actually look competent and put up a fight here and not get slapped at home to all our rivals like in 21/22. I doubt it though.

    Onana
    Dalot Varane Maguire Reguillon
    Casemiro Amrabat
    Antony Bruno Rashford
    Hojlund
I'd easily take a 1-2 goal defeat where we look encouraging.

Counter attacking our only hope really. Our attack has so little confidence at moment.

It's time for ETH to unleash his masterplan, MortarBall.
Pack the midfield, forget the wings and play for set pieces. Maguire, McT, Hojlund, Varane, Amrabat, Lindelof get the stacked big lads up there. Onana launching rockets up to the giants looming over the pussy fecks in sky blue. Dalot whipping them in from the right, Reguillon from the left. Total bombardment.

    United 4 - 0 City
    Maguire '9
    Hojlund '14
    McT '57'86

*Paddy from Max & Paddy's voice* we're gunna get bummed!

Edit: do we think that a 0-7+ loss would result in the manager getting the sack?

Not sure how we are always going into these games where avoiding a thumping is the only expectation. Something has got to give.

Probably go with an extra midfielder and two up top with Rashford more central close to Højlund. I want Eriksen in, as I expect us to be allowed a decent amount of possession, but we need to do something with it.

    Not looking forward to it.

Play for a draw. Best we can hope for. We cannot lose big this time. We need to see improvements and better results vs the top teams.

Anything can happen in a football match, but the most likely scenarios are looking scary as feck.

Oh boy, this can get really ugly. I hope these players have some pride and grit in them and keep the score respectable.

Need the mother of all protests to get this game called off. Southampton’s 9-0s could be under threat if we play like we did in the first half

Dreading this. Just when some reputations have begun to be repaired some more embarrassing moments could start.

    That's quite a puzzle.
Bruno will definitely play on Sunday and I think he's better when a bit higher up the pitch. Eriksen and Rashford both in the team and I think we will get overrun again in midfield vs City.

I’d play Amrabat, Casemiro with Mount and Bruno interchanging as 10 and out wide.

If he plays Casemiro alone we get pumped.

Bring on Eriksen and Garnacho in second half. McTominay shouldn’t be starting again. Would love AWB to be back for this but very unlikely of course.

I’m resigned to us losing, hopefully not an embarrassment though.

    Same players = same performance

Expect City to score at least 5.
More likely a lower score, like that destitute 0-2 where we couldn't do a single thing and looked like boys against men.

Not sure there's a viable way to set up, but we should at least make the midfield area of the pitch as dense as possible... but we won't...

If he goes out on his shield, playing the same system that looks amateurish against literal PL fodder, we're going to get absolutely battered. If he's pragmatic, we're likely to play counter-attacking.

If he's insistent on Bruno and Rashford fielding, then he needs to watch some Ole-ball and at least play to their strengths.

We need legs and aggression in midfield and pace from deep up top. We haven't a prayer in an open game of football.
