Kentucky, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma all have a great shot. Kansas, Pitt and Duke look to be a notch below.

St. John's was relegated to the NIT.

A pair of major conference "champions," Wake Forest and Wisconsin, won't be factors in the Sweet Sixteen. Ohio State already showed the Badgers are all smoke and mirrors, and Wake didn't exactly light it up against Florida State.

I watched the Wisconsin and Wake game at lunch. Wiscy has a key injury to one of their big guys. Wake might sneak in if they have an easy road. ACC and Big 10 weren't that good this year. Big 12 and SEC were pretty tough. Big East may surprise as Pitt and Syracuse are all pretty good and UConn ND could surprise. Louisville is interesting.

Any coincidence that these Universities are mostly from the south and areas where the word "redneck" would be the first word to describe the people.

They have better sports scholarships in the south than the north or just better athlethes or better training conditions?

You are right that the the schools above are pretty much centered in the south and midwest. It's cyclical. Sometimes it's teams from the east or from big cities. Those programs recruit from all over, it's usuually not a team of local kids. The scholarships are uniform but a lot of city kids want to get away from the city and live on a college campus somewhere different. Basketball players are treated like stars on campus.

Most of the above programs have the reputation of being successful year after year and have excellent coaches. Kids going there know that they'll be competing for a national championship every year. Also, every kid dreams of turning pro and kids know that the good coaching will help them get to the next level.

Next week's two-game opening series between the A's and Mariners in Japan will be rescheduled too.

I thought they decided to go on with the tournament last night?

BTW anyone got BYU in the office pool? they won't play Sunday and so could upset a whole lot of people!

If BYU wins two games, they get shifted to another bracket to avoid playing on a Sunday. Really screws up the office pools.

I don't think that will be a problem. The only Mt. West team capable of winning anything is Utah, and they aren't all that strong this year.

Well, BYU is gone. Higher seeded teams are holding up pretty well so far, except Cinci.

Cal eliminated N.C. State on a three point shot with three seconds left by Richard Midgley--a freshman from London. England is helping me in the office pool.

Israeli Amit Tamir starred with 8 points, though he missed 14 of 17 attempts from the field <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

I saw that game at lunch today. I had NC State to advance.

I blew one bracket-had Dayton and Weber State moving on. Since I run the pool for the office, I better not win it.

My final four are:
Kentucky--winner
Oklahoma
Texas
Illinois

I blew the Midwest by having Weber, Dayton and Holy cross! And the West by having Creighton, W Kentucky and Memphis!

My final four are: Kentucky, Arizone, Texas and Oklahoma!

Hey Bob when were you in Arizona State? One of my room mates went there -- did an MFA in Film studies!

Marquette handled Pitt relatively easy last night. I think that they might beat Kentucky.

You called this! Well done.

Anyone still in with a chance in their office pool?

I didn't have a shot, but I have Texas winning (vs Pitt) and with all of the one seeds losing I might sneak back into it.

I think Marquette will beat Kansas by about 8 points. I don't think that KU has anyone to stop Wade and no team matches up against Lukas.

I could see Syracuse winning a close one against Texas. Texas has better shooters than Oklahoma, but Syracuse's interior defense will prevent a lot of Ford's drives. The Syracuse zone can overplay Mouton and Ivey, and force Ford to beat them from the outside because he really hasn't been shooting well. I don't think that Texas has anyone to match up against Anthony and Syracuse is peaking at the right time. I think Texas was playing better during the season.
