Short one again, and I’m far too hanging to do any analysis or put it on YouTube, or even finish it properly… this tournament has utterly destroyed my liver.
Awesome

Good tournament, did ourselves proud. Really enjoyed your movies , cheers. Are you going to Qatar next year?
No. Even though I’m pretty iffy on the whole thing, in normal circumstances I’d still probably be keeping my options open and exploring the possibility… but a number of things have conspired to pretty much ensure I won’t be going - including that I now have a 1 year old and it’s at Christmas! (Or near enough)… The next Euros in Germany seem a good bet though.

Did I spot Keir Starmer in your video 3:45?

Great watch. I was at the game too in the opposite end just above the opta stats nerds on their laptops. A lot of my friends who watched on tele all made the comment that it was just 3mins of heaven and we were outplayed. I'm being biased but for me it felt like The first 20-30mins we had energy and they couldn't keep up with us. Declan Rice and Phillips were breaking their patterns and I felt on top of the world but slowly Italy began to crawl their way into the game. The 2nd half was worrying in that we didn't seem to have much press/energy or thought into how we were going to try get a second to kill it off. Their goal was mighty lucky when you look back on it but I'm not surprised because they did deserve it.

There was I think 2 moments were Stones had the ball but went for the ol 98 hoof up to heskey tactic. Maguire had an amazing little run and did the same during the latter parts of the game. It was obvious that we never had the players to control the game like Italy did but we just didn't have a plan B. Kane really struggled to make an impact during the 2nd half. I had one guy behind me just abusing him all game was very annoying.

A lot of the fans on my side you could tell were becoming more anxious.

Your point about a defensive manager on this amazing team makes me feel sad because I'm 33 and I never thought I would ever get to see England in a final of a major tournament let alone one that is around the corner from me.

Did you stay for the celebrations btw?

No. I told myself I would before the game, but after ET and pens, and all the ruckus before the game I just couldn’t be arsed. Which is a shame cos the team deserved to be supported after all that, but I couldn’t really stomach it… also I really needed a drink

Fair enough. Me and my friend said we would stay and we did till we got kicked out. Got to give it to the Italian fans that I experienced, they gave us a massive round of applause as I left with them after the celebrations were over they were all behaved even when they experienced a lot of abuse from some awful chavs.

I still a feel a bit weird about the whole thing. Just me thinking damn this is never going to happen again at Wembley.

I also noticed you had pretty plush seats. Did you always get that section?

Spot on Mockers…. I get how tough it is to criticise Gareth without coming across as the fan the other nations claim we are “inbefore the blame game from arrogant fans etc”… but yeah. Whatever… I really don’t know.

It’s kinda hitting home that that minority of crappy fans have probably likely cost GB/Eng a World Cup for donkeys too. But they probably thought that anyway, thus a perfect storm of Euphoria .. I guess

Yeah make no mistake the UEFA and FIFA delegates will not have been impressed with our fans behaviour

yeah we got a package for the groups about 3 years ago which were literally the same seats (though at that point you could really sit anywhere in the section you were in) and then re-upped for the knock outs through the same channels and got quite similar ones again…it we hadn’t managed to we had a back up, and part of my would’ve quite liked the variety (it makes the Diary’s a bit more interesting if anything) but it’s not like I can complain! Though I did almost miss the first game when I went to try and find a mate in another section only to realise Wembley is literally designed to stop people doing that, and they wouldn’t let me back down again…the escalators only get tuned “down” after the game and all the stairs only go up one flight in each section, so I had to be escorted out of the stadium via a lift with a steward and then re-enter through my gate whilst frantically trying to contact anyone that could vouch that my already scribbled on ticket wasn’t nicked!… which was probably quite useful for the jibbers, as once they’d got up to the top section it was probably quite hard to get them out!

A lot of people jibbed in for the semi as well, which wasn’t as widely reported (and not violent) which definitely got about and contributed to the chaos on Sunday… though really it was a policing failure. I’ve been to a few European Finals and a lot of Int Tourneys and there’s almost always a double (sometimes triple) cordon keeping fans away from the actual ground… letting thousands of people get pissed right next to the gates was a madness…I’m just glad there wasn’t a Hillaborough situation, as we were kettled just outside for quite a while when they locked down the stadium…. Sounds weird, but it could’ve been a lot worse..

And yeah, the Italians were sound. A lot of ex pats and second gen Italians who were just fecking chuffed to be at an Italy game. Took over the whole place for both their matches, but must’ve been pretty scared at one point on Sunday…Though a lot of them seemed to get in quite early anyway, thankfully.

I’m very baffled as to why people keep saying this tbqh.
Already this century Fifa have given the World Cup to two countries with two of the biggest crime rates in the world.
Gave another to Russia, who have a decent amount of hooliganism and intolerance amongst their football fanbase.

And theyve just given a World Cup to a country who not only couldn’t give a flying feck about football but in a country where where
-being gay is illegal.
-women are treated as second class citizens
-people literally died building their stadiums

Fifa do not have any morals or codes. If the money is there and England want it they’ll be getting the World Cup.

Also don’t forget Poland/Ukraine, where Sol Campbell told us we’d come back in body bags

Not to mention that the people forcing their way in were in many cases people who literally can’t get into football anymore! A lot of middle aged hoolies aching for a last hurrah in a very unique situation with a terrible police presence… who ended up largely fighting each other!… it is not a remotely normal occurrence at Wembley, where I don’t think there’s ever been any real trouble since it reopened (and I’ve been to nearly 100 games there)

Ah good old Solisms… Think all the players kept their families home too for that.
But yeah it’s a total one off incident that will be easily rectified by the FA not being complete fecking fannies and allowing security and police to do their job.
As per, people getting a little too wrapped up in a narrative.

As I mentioned above, the main issue was a cordoning one, which was completely novice and utterly preventable. Usually at big finals or ‘event’ tournament games the first cordon is a decent distance from the stadium itself, or at least not within straight sight of the turnstiles. And certainly not within spitting distance of pubs and off-licences - places where people can congregate and drink and built up momentum for this kind of thing… and this does about 80% of the security work by sheer deterrence… technically every big game I’ve been to has had shocking security at each check point, but very few people can be arsed to barge their way past a first cordon, only to have to headlessly run about trying to work out where to go next, and promptly lose all their momentum/coke energy….

Wembley is not only surrounded by a newly built shopping complex and Boxpark, with a Co-Op and a Tescos a stones through from the steps and a large congregation area outside the old Wembley Arena, but their security set up the first cordon literally at the base of the stadium steps, and allowed people to mill about right next to the outer walls (which aren’t particularly high on the lower level) - even those who had just been kicked out for trying to jib, as one guy behind us coming in was loudly talking on his phone about how he’s just been ejected from Club Wembley and was gonna try another route…

So it wasn’t really even a police presence failure, as much as a planning failure to allow a staggered cordon system about 10ft apart from each other, and then let thousands of people to get pissed up within view of the turnstiles, knowing they only needed one big burst of momentum to get at least one door away…

Basically what I’m saying is it’s Capitalism’s fault

When I got to Wembley it felt a bit like all the undesirables of the UK had been dumped in one spot. There was fights, people swimming in rubbish, people climbing anything just to get a cheeky picture on their phone.

I fully agree with the policing failure, they were just so casual and I think they were scared too. When I got out the stadium I just saw scores of teenagers and other people who tbh didn't look like the types who had paid for a ticket but were there to get smashed. One copper stopped someone with a bottle of white zinds and he just downed it in front of him and the officer was laughing. They got the strategy completely wrong. There should have been a clear police perimeter stopping anyone from even getting down wembley way. I was really hoping personally that they would have put something special on for the final like some nice stalls or fun things for the fans but clearly that wasn't on the agenda and it was probably for the best considering the people who were there.

I saw the jibbing video after the semi where some shite newspaper posted the Tik Tok video (don't get me started on that app) but what I saw wasn't even jibbing it was aggressive/violent. Firstly I got past the "Covid" bit, the guy just looked at me and went "go through". We had our tickets checked with that weird pen. There was old bill at the top of the stairs and then when I went to my section I just saw lots of groups rushing into queues and then bundling the large doors. There was maybe 50 barging and running to get in and I think like 4-5 stewards and 4-5 coppers trying to keep up but they had no chance. One steward who was quite a big guy got rushed and he collapsed to the floor. I felt really bad for him and tbh the people doing this had no qualms about the damage they were doing to others around them.

I had a friend mention the video about "England fans beating up Italy fans" today which wasn't true at all and I explained that they were pissed off at the people who were doing what they were doing because they never paid and were causing trouble. I personally don't condone violence but I'm glad a few of the idiots who did got a few wacks for it. If anyone innocent got caught up in it (I hope not because it looked like they were rushing the big disabled entrances) then I apologise.

Inside the stadium it was quite hostile and basically if you had an Italian top on people were either gonna beat you up or hurl abuse at you till you had to pretty much find somewhere else to sit.

Yeah the “ticketed fans attacking the interlopers” stuff I have a hard time being too outraged about… considering all the Covid protocols we had to go through to get in (I mean, it was just a bit of paper that they barely checked, but… you know!) it wasn’t too unreasonable to almost consider it akin to fighting off a zombie hoard in a bad Netflix film!

like I touched on above, I don’t think it’s entirely conspiratorial to think that the economic factor of keeping all these shops and bars that depend on the eco-system of Wembley open, after over a year of no business played a part… there was literally no other reason to allow so many people so close to the stadium.

We luckily got a lift this time, cos we anticipated the tube being a nightmare (also they shut the Bakerloo too)… so we arrived at the other side of the stadium and had to walk around half the outside to get to our gate, and it was immediately obvious that everything was fecked, as you couldnt go 10 meters without seeing a group of lads trying to jump over the wall, or lift each other up, or just waiting around discussing how best to jib it… just a complete mess.

But like Leroy & I were saying tbf, it’s an anomaly of circumstance and nativity and they just failed to see the warning signs. I’ve been going to Wembley since about 97, and it’s never been like this… and I maintain its partly because no one ever used to hang around outside when it was a wasteland of warehouses and outlet offices… (plus that one Crystal Lounge bar that looks grim as all feck!) but now you can go to the Boxpark up Wembley Way and drink all day… danger

Hadn’t really considered that but yeah that’s quite a big factor. Your options nearby are unlimited. Whereby previously if you didn’t have a ticket you’d go into London for bars and restaurants now you can just hang around Wembley the whole day, And when you throw in the game being a cup final… with england… for the first time ever, it’s a cocktail for shit.

Sorry Mockney, but its bullshit that you can't criticize somebody who got you to a final. Aside from Germany, England's run to the final was piss easy considering the squad depth at Gareth's disposal. In hindsight, not getting to the final would have been an embarrassment.

Getting to a final is not a victory and further to that, the style of play and the manner in which you progressed through this tournament deserves criticism because at no point did you ever look like the best team, which on paper, you were.

I think part of being a good international manager is being able to make quick decisions because you literally have at most, 7-8 games every 2 years in which to show your worth (unless you're completely retarded and dont qualify if you're any of the big countries). Southgate hasn't demonstrated that and I dont think he has the ability to do it.

This, just had to beat Germany, whilst playing your games at home in front of a home crowd all tournament.

The whole tournament was gift wrapped and handed to Southgate imo. Will never ever get a more comfortable run at a final.
