French and Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires has been accused of spitting in the face of Australian and Wolverhampton Wolves defender Kevin Muscat in the 45th minute in the international friendly at the MCG last night. The incident occured at the city end of the ground near the bi-line where Kevin Muscat accuses Pires of spitting in his face. Australian and Middlesbrough goalkeeper, Mark Schwarzer witnessed the event and confirmed that Muscat had indeed been spat at by a French player but refused to name the player. Kevin Muscat has since alledged that during this year's Confederations Cup Tournament in which Australia beat France 1-0, Pires spat at Muscat.

Today Australian coach, Frank Farina stated that during his playing days that it was one of the worst offences in the game to spit at an opposition player.

What a pig, Robert Pires is. I don't care if he thinks that Paul Scholes is the best player in the Premiership there is no excuse for spitting in an oppositions player's face.

Recent video footage in the last few minutes has come in that clearly shows that Robert Pires, after several attempts are made to break up the confrontation spits in the face of Kevin Muscat and that is what incited Kevin Muscat to retaliate.

Disgraceful if true, but that won't divert attention away from Muscat's challange. People in Europe will say he deserved it probably!

:(

Pity, it was a good game except for these two incidents.
