We have been linked a bit, for the summer. I don't remember people getting that excited when he went to Barca, but i think he is supposed to be quite good. Release clause is €60M, so probably a bit cheap for City.

What do we think about this?

José Mourinho is preparing a completely bestial blow for the promising Barça coach Ernesto Valverde. The technician of Manchester United has on his hands a brutal barrage, direct to the line of flotation of the Barça team. He believes that the entity presided over by Josep Maria Bartomeu is making a calculation error and plans to make it pay dearly in his plans. How? Simply, taking a player of all vital in their schemes. And, as things are, at a bargain price.

The coach of the Red Devils is very aware that Barça has, for the moment, parked the renewal of Samuel Umtiti's contract. The signing of Aymeric Laporte by Manchester City has led to the club led by Josep Maria Bartomeu has chosen to take a bit more calm the extension of the French defense commitment and that has convinced Mourinho that he has an option to take it to Old Trafford next summer. Above all, after the entity closed almost in record time the renewal of Gerard Piqué.

From your point of view, all you have to do is put an unbeatable offer, both from a sporting and economic point of view, on the table. Mourinho is confident that he can get Umtiti to seriously consider leaving the Camp Nou to enlist in United. And, in that sense, the 60 million euros listed in its termination clause are, for Portuguese, an amount perfectly acceptable by a player with its quality.

He was absolutely majestic last night. Would love to have him partnering Bailly.

He's better than Bailly. I'd spend £100m on him tbh.

I'll have a whip-round with my mates and bring him in for the pub team  (sorry)

In all seriousness, he's never really stood out that much when I've seen Barca this season, but admittedly I've only watched a few games. From what I understand though, the Barca fans rate him very highly.

I would hope Jose isn't planning a "completely bestial blow" for Valverde.

Phenomenal player. Barcelona will not let him go for any money. He's the future of our defence.

He does look like a good player, but a lot of ball playing defenders would look good in that Barcelona team because they keep possession of the ball so well.

He will sign a new contract that will take him out of our bracket.

I bet we could recoup 20-30M of that 60M from a Prem team by selling off Smalling, too, with his experience and being so good at everything other than passing.

I remember when I had to tell people that he was really good and the only reason Lyon weren't absolutely shit defensively.

Any excuse to post what is probably my favourite ever goal from a non-United player. Just the sweetest strike ever.

Brilliant. Charlie Daniels hit an identical one against City earlier this season.

Barcelona will not let him go for any money..

Not any amount, just his release clause..!!

Having said that, why would the player have any desire whatsoever in leaving Barcelona...Absolutely no chance..!!

Amazing defender.
His signing will be like Sanchez transfer. Full of drama and of course, ballbag bullshits. Well, no chance we can get him.

Well, Neymar did.
It's unlikely but not impossible

Do you understand how release clauses work?

Yes I do understand how they work, suffice to say his contract will be renewed with improved terms and extortionate release clause.

Wait what Emtiti's release clause is only €60 million

Why didnt anyone sign him in the last 2 windows then ?

Because he has to agree to a move and there is no way up from Barca.

Yeah, "Neymar" and all that. An extrovert who left to a village club for money and fame because he looked too small alongside Messi.

Most in-form defender in Europe. France have an unbelievable generation coming up right now.

France can field 2 different 11's right now and they would be pretty good against any opposition.

If umitti wants to play in the PL though im sure any of the Manchester clubs wont be hesitant to pay his release clause. Lets see if he signs a new deal before the summer or not. If i was him i would access my options till after the WC before i signed a new deal at Barca.

Will sign a new deal.

One of 2 reasons, take your pick.

£, €

I have watched a few games of Barca and i feel his decision making is good, make right choices almost all the time and his positioning is also wuite good. But, it is one thing to play as a CB in Barca and entirely different to play in any other team. He certainly has weaknesses, strength and heading for the starters. Also, i have not seen him making great tackles. I am not sold on him that he is great defender. In PL, he will be somewhat like Koscielny.

A bestial blow eh?
The bestial thing got me interested. But the word should translate as beastly, rather than bestial. In the sheep-free version it reads....

José Mourinho is preparing a completely beastly blow for the promising Barça coach Ernesto Valverde. The Manchester United technician has on hand a brutal barrage aimed to hole the Barça team below the waterline. He believes that the company presided over by Josep Maria Bartomeu is making an error in calculation and plans to make them pay dearly. How? Simply, by taking away the player most vital of all in their schemes. And, as things are, at a bargain price.

Best CB in the world currently. Perfect and crucial to Barca, expecting him to sign a new deal at the end of the season

I really do think we need a new CB. Despite how good some may or may not be, the injuries are a joke now. We need a settled back line and for that I think a new CB is a must now. We can't be building a team every season, we should really be challenging for everything next season.

Board is aware of this thing, winter window is over. So I don't see any concern anymore. Messi re-signed with huge release clause, Coutinho captured, Roberto release clause improved from 40m to 500m. City tried but couldn't get anywhere. Umtiti wants to be in Barca, no wonder City couldn't do anything about it. From what I read, board has already started talking about new contract, and I expect a release clause beyond anyone's capacity. As for wages, I think it's clear that we offer amount the best wages in the market (just have a look at Messi's wages :wenger:)

He is supposed to support Lyon and Barcelona, also Barcelona aren't exactly shy when it comes to pay players.

Best defender in the world this season. No chance this is going to happen.

As someone said, best CB in the world right now. I can't see him leaving Barça. It would be a massive disaster for us, he is the future of our defence.

It takes PSG money to unsettle most players but Barcelona can keep players without overpaying due to many aspiring to play at the club

Umtiti is settled and is going nowhere, the board will deservedly improve his contract and increase that paltry buyout
