Really miss your updates MUJAC, but I do understand that it took up a lot of time, and probably to much. Hope that you could do an update on the "new" U18s. Norwood seems really promising. Have we had a more talented midfielder in our acadamy since Fletcher? Both Potts and Roberts are also a bit new to me. And how about Ajose, a bigger talent than Brandy?

typical of the official site really. i've emailed them a handful of times this season urging them to improve their coverage of the reserves/youths and letting them know there's plenty of people out there interested in this stuff (i'm sure plenty would be willing to help), each time i've been ignored of course. it's pathetic really, when you scout round on other clubs' sites for details of games against our youths it's obvious that even the likes of Crewe provide more information than our official site does.

i suppose they'd much rather spend their time cramming the site with adverts whoring out corporate rubbish than providing even the briefest of match reports for reserve/u18 games. sadly the way the club and the game are headed these days.

Blades Academy 0-4 Man Utd - match report

United's FA Premier Academy League U18s Group D campaign came to a close with an unflattering defeat to Manchester United at Shirecliffe on Saturday.

Both clubs had, prior to the match, agreed to field an Under-16s squad due to Manchester United's involvement in the FA Youth Cup Final return leg which takes place at Old Trafford on 26 April.

The Blades squad was comprised of all U16s, apart from two U15s in their starting line-up, whilst the visitors included one U17 player in a squad of U16s.

Coach Scott Sellars said: "The result didn't really reflect the performance - it was a pretty close affair. We didn't create much in the first half, as it was a bit nip and tuck but, for 25 minutes in the second half, we played in Manchester United's half."

United's youngsters were undone by a first half effort and three second half strikes as Manchester United produced quality, counter-attacking football and showed a ruthlessness in front of goal.

Sellars said that Saturday's result had not taken the shine off what has been a highly successful season for United's Academy side.

United's up-and-coming players reached the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup, where they bowed out 3-1 to eventual finalists Liverpool at Bramall Lane in February whilst, earlier this season, U18s duo Lee Askham and Jacob Mellis received international recognition for England.

Sellars added: "We have made excellent progress this season with what has been, purposefully, a very young team. In terms of individual performances, I have been very pleased. The lads know that we need to be more clinical in both boxes - that is something to work on.

"The FA Youth Cup was the one time we placed more emphasis on winning than performing. Getting to the quarter-finals was a fantastic run for us all, and you don't get to that level without having quality players in your Academy."

Blades Academy: Ho Lee, Smith, Dobson, Hall, Hague, Bedford, Lyn, Gee, Fletcher, Rhodes, Chappell.
Subs: Thompson, Billard, Foster, McGuire, Adams.
from sheffield united's site. nothing particularly helpful there.

Walter Crickmer started it all...
and the subs & unused subs?

there's no match report on the official website.
With the FA Youth Cup final on Thursday....United fielded a predominantly U-16 side for the game against Sheffield United. Played at their training ground in Shirecliffe, a swirling wind did nothing to help either team play decent football. The pitch was also on a slope which was slightly interesting.....!!

United took the lead half way through the first half with a Oliver Norwood header and the half time score was 1-0. In the second half United played the more attractive football and our passing game was starting to cause the Blades defence all sorts if trouble. When Jason Lampkin replaced Conor McCormack, who looked like he had taken a slight knock, Matthew James moved in central defence and we started to control the midfield. Lampkin's speed on the right wing set up two quick goals from his crosses...the first for Potts and the second for Roberts. With less than ten minutes to go, the linesman signalled for a foul on Nick Ajose in the box and Norwood duly converted from the spot.

United were well worth their victory, although 4-0 was probably a little unfair to Sheffield....

The official team sheet showed the United team as follows...

Team: Woods, Stewart, Dudgeon, Moffatt, Gill, McCormack, James, Norwood, Brandao, Ajose, Roberts

Subs: Potts (Brandao), no keeper, Keane (Roberts), Brown, Byrne, Lampkin (McCormack)

James, Norwood and Ajose are all in the England schools team that will face Spain at Wembley on Saturday.

Any info on this Keane fellow? Never heard of him. Not Roy of Cork?

He probably got a pretty good job already, and Man Utd would have to offer him quite a salary, but yes, would love to see him at www.manutd.com or something. I would even become a paying member if needed...

bet loads of people would do it just for expenses. not like you'd have to quit your job to do it (unless you worked weekends of course).

great report as ever Tony, be interesting to see who this Keane chap is.

Tony any thoughts on the new U-18 crop? Personally I think they look better than the current one....
