If we really are that hampered by ffp restrictions this summer then, why not go have a look at the players who will be out of contract this summer...

One mans washed up has been, is another mans harry redknapp/big sam, restoration/indian summer project..

I'd happily take Rabiot and Tielemans for depth. Thuram looked useful at the WC but haven't seem much of him. Our squad needs reinforcements.
 
Benzema. It’s the United way.

Although I thought his contract ran to 2024.
 
Would take Asensio as a depth option for RW and either Amartey or Lerma as backup to Casemiro. Amartey could take Maguire's spot in the CB pecking order as well.

Sell Maguire and McT. Spend the actual budget on a striker and CM.
 
Ceballos isn't mentioned here but I believe he is out of contract as well? Could be a decent pick, has been playing well recently
 
Has to be Messi.

Bring him in, win the league, win the CL. Another balloon door and more salt in Ronaldo's wounds.

The decent squad options are players who have no intention of being a squad option so will never join us, and the ones who would are no better than what we already have
 
The ones I could see:

Kamada - Not sure if he's up to it, but we need depth there and he's a passing #8/10 I believe, so we could start taking Eriksen off after 55-60 minutes.

Mina - Giant RCB to come on and head the ball for 10 minutes is Maguire's role in the squad, so we could save 30M including wages next year if we got a decent offer for Maguire from the mid-table. Unfortunately he's hurt even more than Varane.

Semedo - Similar to the above one, but we sell Wan-Bissaka and make 20M or so at backup RB, and that's money to use for Kane or De Jong.

Those two replacing Maguire and McTominay.
Allows us to spend big on a striker + GK, and DM-cover.
 
Allways felt there was a fantastic player in Mahmoud Dahoud. There is a reason Tuchel rated him highly. He has had issues with the managers after Tuchen and a nasty shoulder injury.
For free though we get a midfielder that I have a feeling could be a true revelation under Ten Hag. His progressive passing is very good and he has quite decent dribbling stats. He is alot more press resistant than Eriksen as well.
 
so many options in that list :drool: albeit you would expect a fair few to sign extensions/renew before the season ends - Skriniar, Benzema surely? PSG was willing to pay quite a bit in the summer. Not that i think it's possible, but any news on where Gundogan is headed or if a renewal is on the cards?

Aouar and Dahoud were both super highly rated youngsters as well. Couple of decent midfield options for us to add a better squad quality: Rabiot (but they would want a hefty sign on fee plus a hefty wage iirc) & Laimer (but not sure how he has been performing and seems Bayern bound, possibly).
 
If Qatar buys us could we potentially have a run at Messi?

Although I'd think he'll be too diminished by that point.

I'm more interested in looking at who we can sell and for how much. Especially if we are looking at having to sell to buy.
 
Every year we have one of these threads with a long list of sensible out-of-contract signings, and every year I feel like the club fails to avail of any of them.
 
Have you guys forgotten we are United , we don’t do smart free transfers. Eriksen aside, I don’t remember when we got a free transfer signing

Eriksen as you mention + but also Cavani, Zlatan and Sergio Romero (all fairly smart free transfers I would claim).

My bad. Completely forgot about them. Zlatan and Romero were great and Cavani good too. Cavani would have achieved that great status if we hadn’t gone for Ronaldo
 
If our wage bill can handle it we should pick up a few of these for some much needed squad depth
 
You could seriously make a title challenging team out of that list (even if the shelf life is only 1-2years).
 
I just don't see Zaha coming back here. Tielemans, Thuram, Ascensio and Thuram for me
 
That Kamada is an interesting one, hasn't he been ripping it up in Germany for some time.
 
I would've taken Skriniar but looks like he might be PSG bound. Aouar might be worth looking at, we need two midfielders but I can't see us spending on two.
 
Quite surprised to see Firmino on the list. Guess he's now out of favour at Liverpool ?
 
For some reason I really want Adama Traore. Bringing on Adama and Garnacho in last 30 min will give defences heart attacks.
