Why are United only ever connected with the overpriced, obvious signings?

what do you United's scouts actually do?...just read the back page of "The Sun" and "The News of the World" and listen to agents and advance directly to Go for their £200(sic)?
Do they they actually ever watch relatively unknown or even mid-priced players?
Where are the Hypias the Dudeks the Parhas and the Kanoutes the Dyers and the likes of Jermaine Jenas...where are these bargains?
It seems every player we are connected to will cost us £20 million or more.

its the back page of the sun that is forming these connections, and sheep like you thats believing them.
Forlan was hardly an overpriced superstar.

Why do you have to be such a miserable cynic about everything ?

hes got more going for him than your hero Heskey, that fool wouldnt score in a barrel of scouser sluts

this is my problem on this forum. People don't think I'm a United fan because I am a pessimistic cynic.
Diego does look like a female bodybuilder who's taken too many hormones and his shooting is worse than Gary Neville's so far.
However, I wouldn't swap him for Emile Hefty.

cause you never have a positive thing to say,
just admit your a scouser and ill take you seriously like the other scousers here who are interested in discussing football,
your just a pain in the arse otherwise.

At this stage, I would rather we go after established players rather than unknowns, we can't afford the time needed for these unknowns to blend in and improve.

Saying that, it surely doesn't hurt to keep an eye or two out for some bargains.

He's only played about 45mins of first-team football. You cannot expect him to be banging 'em in like Ruud!

Depends on the size of the barn door ;)

Few names for you, redpie:
van Nistelrooy
Stam
Forlan too name just a few, it is fair to say Fergie does his fair share of wheeling and dealing in the less evident world of transfers. Remember that the likes of Peter Schmeichel were not found overnight, and United's scouts must work very hard to find good players. Don't forget they are trying to find players who will be able to shine on the biggest stage in the world, not just 'good prospects'.

Yes Redpie/Buzet/Jammydevil, at least you admit you are a pessimistic cynic.
How sad must be your life.

Forlan has only played two games and you're already criticizing him...

Forlan is not really my style but I bet he looks better than you.

Once more, I would say you're jealous.

well here's a few feckin more names for ye:

eric cantona
ronny johnsen
ole gunnar solksjaer

red pie's smokin crack, some of our best bargains have turned out to be our best players..

just reading what I posted last night and I've come to the conclusion this is probably the most boring, muddled thread I've ever come up with.

I can't even blame it on the drink this time.

I was just wondering why United transfers always seem to be great long drawn out sagas that dominate the back pages of the newspapers for weeks on end?

where are the surprising out-of-the-blue simple done and dusted deals?

even the Forlan deal followed months of speculation and ended up being a fudge.

...and the average barn door is about the width of a set of goalposts I think.

I agree with redpiss, we never seem to buy upcoming players like Cole, defoe, Dyer.

Forlan will be a flop!!!

well it's certainly only recently that we've had more long and drawn out sagas. in the nineties we had amazing bargains like kanchelskis and the others i listed above, and a clutch of homegrown players that performed unbelievably. yorke and stam were the first really big money signings (keane's set a british transfer record but even that was less than 4 million) for a long time.

the profile of the club has been raised a helluva lot since the mid-nineties so if man. united farts, you can bet the mirror and the sun et al will come a-sniffin. this over-dose of media scrutiny certainly exacerbates the drawn out sense of the transfers.. along with agents acting on behalf of the best interests of their players.

just look at how long it takes some of our most established players to sort out their contracts these days!

silvestre
Forlan
Blomquist (sp)
Ronny J
OLE

Bargin anyone ?????????

you mancs are funny......not one of you has yet mentioned the biggest bargain you've ever had and your manager's best ever signing.

peter schmeichel....

Actually I'd say our biggest bargins were the ones that came through the youth system and the ones we pinched from City *Ahem* Giggsy and from Tottenham * Ahem* Beckham

:)

Rumoured big signings sell 'papers'. Who wants to know about United signing a good prospect from a third division club, other than Uniteed supporters.
