Jeeeeeez. Iceland 2-0. They certainly don't deserve to win, but Norway deserve to lose... Both teams would be relegated from Tippeligaen halfway through the season. Terrible game.

Weird game. There's a decent passing side somewhere within that Moldovan side but their shape when not in possession is all over the place.

the trouble with this win is that the press and everybody will think WOW we have won 5-0 and that we are going to win the World Cup , but we are not going to win anything with this team, when are we going to stop picking the dead wood

Jesus Christ. WCQ is already over for Norway.
I think that Switzerland will qualify while for the second spot will fight Slovenia, Albania and both Scandinavian teams. Cyprus IMO has no chance.

The most interesting game will be Albania vs Switzerland. There is quite a chance that 5 Albanians (Xhaka, Behrani, Dzemaili, Mehmedi and Shaqiri) will play for Switzerland so this will be an unique case.

Sorry for mistake. I guess I didn't know the difference between Scandinavian and Nordic countries.

Talking about football, strange fact that Norway are on pot 1, while Switzerland in pot 3.

Why is Drillo still managing Norway? You'd think Norway would want to try and be more forward thinking after years of failure.
Because in the eyes of the Norwegian FA, he's the only one to have success. That was of course in the 90's, and football has changed a lot since then, while his philosophy hasn't changed at all. But once a hero, always a hero, aye?

First of all Drillo is brilliant, it's the quality of our players that is the problem. Secondly we tried a decade without Drillo, and that was worse.

Solbakken was supposed to become NT coach, I suppose that was a little bit more forward thinking, but he decided to go to Germany to become an utter fiasco at Köln instead.

Why are Norway still playing that horrible long ball tactic? The players look capable of much more than that.

For us you are all Vikings anyway.
The Icelandic are the proper vikings, Norwegians are the almost-vikings, Swedes, Danish and Finnish are non-vikings.

I'm not sure that's an accurate representation of the football Norway played. First of all they were terrible and thus failed at everything they attempted to do, secondly the emphasis on throw-ins and set pieces/corners gives off an impression of long ball football. Furthermore I'm not sure Norway have good enough players to play nice football at the moment, but we have some decent youngsters coming up. In 3-4-5 years' time Norway will/should appear quite differently. Norway should obviously not have lost this game, they were up against a poorer side overall but fecked up in both ends of the pitch, so well deserved three points to Iceland.

It's very common in English to refer to the Nordic countries as Scandinavia, possibly because "the Nordic countries" is a shit name. It's just Norden to us.

Case in point: The main producers of "Scandinavian design" are Sweden and Finland.

Fair enough. We were lucky and Norway was shit. I can accept that.

Exactly what I was thinking about, I have this whatever Thule glass stuff which is meant to be Scandinavian design... from Finland.

We are doing reasonably well against Colombia. 1-0 down to a very early Falcao goal, but pretty even since. It's boiling hot though, the 4th official fainted and has been taken to the changing rooms, our sky blue shirts looked Chelsea blue by the 20th minute...

Second half may be more one-sided :( Would be delighted to nick one and draw it.

Yeah! Just got back. Norway were really poor. Only one good chance in the whole match and a shot from outside that hit the bar, both from King.

Played good football in the first half but the better part of the 2nd half was kick and run football from both team. Our goalkeeper isn't the sharpest. Awful awful goal kicks. Why he always aimed at Hangeland I don't know. We probably won half of the headers out on the flanks.

Gylfi was good in his cameo 2nd striker role. He's played in 3 or 4 different positions so far. Birkir Bjarnason was MoM I thought. The Noggies on here know him better than the Icelandic people do most likely since he's played there all his life.
Pretty solid defensive performance. Our left flank is still the weak point as always.
Very nice finish from Alfreð Finnbogason. He's a very good finisher. Normally not a problem for us under Lagerbäck. We take our chances well.

We have a chance of doing something in this group since we won this one. Getting 3 points at home is a must against all teams and we'll need 4-6 points from both the Albanian and Cyprus games if we're thinking about giving the World Cup a go. 3rd place would be an excellent finish for us however and I'd take it now if someone offered me it.

What's good about our team is that we do possess the same threat like Stoke does even if we're playing poorly. We definitely don't play the same football as Stoke but our throw-ins and set pieces always cause problems because Gylfi is taking them and Aron Einar has a monster throw. Many of our smaller players are also very good in the air which other teams might not be prepared for.

So long as we don't make mistakes with basic defending we can beat any team in the group. Might sound easy but that's normally been a big ask in the past.

Thule is also an old word for Iceland. It's an Icelandic beer as well.
