I only got as far as downloading the demo. Seemed off in some way. Not sure if it was because I'd become used to the Skate series or what, but it felt weird. Not sure how to put it, maybe... lifeless.

This thread reminds of Grind Session. You could skate as a demon, a T-Rex and all sorts on that. Cracking soundtrack, too.

Never heard of that one. Tony Hawk were the only skateboarding games I needed back then. Did get Evolution Skateboarding for the Gamecube, but didn't play it much.

What about Jet Set?

Although, not boarding.

Nope. Apparently there are a lot of skating games that I've never heard of.

How about Skate or Die!? Now there's a retro skateboarding game.

No harm missing Sk8er, it was awful.

Skate or Die! was a bit early for me, heh.

Apparently Grind Session was good enough that Activision bought their developers out, and put them to work on Tony Hawk games.

Oh, I didn't know that. Looking them up though I now remember seeing the Shaba Games logo on the PS1 version of THPS3 and wondered why it wasn't on any of the others.

Apparently they also made Tony Hawk's Project 8. I have to say I'm not a fan of them much.

Yeah, it was nothing special looking back. I liked it but it was basically a worse version of Tony Hawk's.

...with a great soundtrack and some very odd hidden characters.

It was good without manuals, but I'm glad they brought them in. I can't imagine not going around the whole airport on two wheels in THPS3.

:D Ah, the memories.

Perfection. And a brilliant review.

Still the greatest Kart racer of all time for me, even though it was often considered a ripoff of Mario Kart.
Downloaded that on PSN a while back, still great fun. Bit weird playing split-screen though, not used to it anymore.

I don't think I played Project 8, IIRC I gave up on Tony Hawks after American Wasteland.

Ah well, at least I wasn't too far in it, plus I now have an excuse to play from the beginning.

Wow, apparently Kula World is pretty expensive for a PS1 game. I thought it'd be one of those cheap £2/3 ones.
No harm having an excuse to play more! :D

As for Kula World, holy crap, that's pricey, thought it'd be bargain bin, guess it was more popular than expected. Even the demo is most of a tenner.....

Yep, as much as I don't like buying digital games I guess circumstances like this is when it's useful :D It was either really popular or nobody bought it and that's why it's rare and expensive.

I thought I had the game on one of my demo discs but I don't. I have no idea where I remember the game from, I must be going mad.

I'd prefer the machines and games proper, but it's far too spendy to be into retro games. Digital is just fine. I'm lucky to have my PSX still. Picked up a Mega Drive a few years ago, though, and a handfull of classics.

Not exactly a game that can be easily confused with another, is it? :D

Luckily Mega Drive games are still quite cheap, not so luckily I haven't really got into the Mega Drive phase yet so by the time I do they'll have probably gone right up. Ah well, it's all part of the fun... I suppose.

Nope, I have no excuses :( I'll just pretend a friend had it and say that's where I know it from. Ah, that's better.

I think I got the lot for 40 bucks or so, was quite delighted at the time! :D

I'll buy that, sounds legit.

Couple of the 6-pack starter sets(Columns, Streets of Rage and the like) , some Mortal Kombats, Comix Zone, some Sonics, can't quite remember everything now, I'll have to dig the box out and see.

Sounds like a good bundle!

I spent ages on the Mega Games I that I got with my console. The music from Columns, Super Hang On and Italia '90 always brings back memories

I never had a Mega Drive when it was current, but a few mates did, one had the pack with Golden Axe, another the one with Alien Storm! Good times!

One mate had a Phantasy Star game, probably the first RPG I ever played, though I didn't see much of it, tbh.

I've never played any of those games, though have obviously heard about Golden Axe and Phantasy Star a lot. It was all about Sonic 1 and 2 for me when I used to play the Mega Drive. Love those two games.

I'm at the last warp room in my replay of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. This is where the game was a little shit.. well, I just remember hating the level where you put a jetpack on with incredibly awkward controls.

I guess it was a sign of things to come though, Crash 3 was brilliant in some ways (bosses), but it's emphasis on using shit vehicles was a constant barrier to fun for me.

It's been a blast - do I pick Crash Bandicoot 3: Wrath of Cortex for my next replay, or Spyro Year of the Dragon? Spyro is fecking awesome, but as I remember it can be long and tedious and feckING HARD at times.

I loved Golden Axe, but I agree - Sega was all about Sonic. Sonic was brilliant, absolutely brilliant - pretty sure I still remember the title screen glitch for unlocking all the levels too

up, down, up, down, a, b, c, start ?

up, down, left, right, a, b, c, start ?

Something like that - I'd look it up but that would ruin it.

You need to make a thread for platformers Olly - you know your shit, and I'm always looking for new platformers to play! This Crash Bandicoot 2 replay has made me consider whether it's my favourite platforming game ever - not the best ever, for sure, but my favourite.

I have a Mega Drive collection on my Vita, really need to dig into Phantasy Star, supposed to be proper good, I remember it being good.

Golden Axe was a classic, interesting difficulty system, if you play on easy, one of the earlier bosses is the final boss and the game ends.
