Been linked to us in quite a few media outlets recently. Combative midfielder at Inter, strong in the tackle and good engine. Got decent feet and a powerful shot too. Part of the current wave of Colombians doing very well in Europe.

Would be a good option for us, of course alongside someone more creative.

There are still players out there.

Not really the marquee signing we need though, is he?

No, but until, or even after, we procure this 'marquee signing', I'd imagine we'll want to get to the business of actually just building a good football team, and signing players we need to fit a system.

Of course, Guarin alone would not transform us, but you pretty much cannot get a 'marquee' defensive minded midfielder. The marquee signing will be more creative, I'd hope. Perhaps Moyes wants another who can make us a bit tougher.

Strong in the tackle, you say? Sounds like the sort of midfielder I've been wanting. Must admit I've not seen him play (although I did sign him once on Football Manager and he was good, so I'm 100% behind this).

As Rozay says though, it seems like he'd be a good signing IF we bought in another, more creative, midfielder as well.

He's not totally defensive to be honest. His game is certainly more rounded than Fernando's, for example, and he get's up and down the pitch. He is rough and rugged though, as you would expect from a Colombian international to be fair!

Good as he is, I'm not convinced by him. He can be an absolute beast at times, but is not consistent, and as a Colombian is want to be, not necessarily that disciplined, especially for Premier League play. Granted, I have not seen him at Inter.

Mind you, he has not broken the starting line up for Colombia either. Just don't think he's quite good enough for United.

To be fair, you do say you haven't seen him at Inter. Given he's been there for almost two years, maturity and discipline a player can improve upon in such a time frame? Especially two years spent in Italy!

Who starts regularly for Colombia? I watched a couple of games a few months back but can't remember. Quintero was in there I think, but can't remember who was alongside him.

Inter's Vidal... no as good (but who is?), one of the best Inter players whenever i see them. Box to box with a big engine. Could be better for us...

This guy was a demon on FM many moons ago. He also scored a truly unbelievable goal a couple of years back which he celebrated by going into some sort of shock.

We are linked with a plethora of Portuguese based players every year. A lot of these player have 3rd party ownership and a lot of the speculation I feel is driven by agents with an agenda of one sort or another.

The Portuguese based players appears to be because of our tie in with Mendes. We don't seem to be able to do deals with any other of the major agents...

He couldn't believe it himself

No chance for the goalkeeper, massive swerve and counter swerve can be seen in the last replay.

Pretty sure he was amazing on FM2005. From that alone we should sign him.

That goal he scored for Porto is definitely one of the best long range shots I've ever seen. His reaction was priceless

Talented player, but he has his ups and downs. Mixes brilliance with sloppiness.

He's alright for Inter right now and could be a decent solution for United, but he would need to step up a bit. If you're looking for €15 million Serie A central midfielders who aren't cup tied and who would add steel, Nainggolan is the one. If you still have faith in Belgians.

No

Abel Aguilar has Guarin's spot. Not only does Pekerman prefer him, but so did the two managers beforehand. Quintero has not broken into the starting line up either, and is a completely different midfielder. He's a playing making Maradona-esque classical South American #10. Pretty much the future hope of the national side, but probably not ready for Brazil.

I remember his agent talking about our possible interest in him a few months ago. It was after the Inter fans had booed him in a game though so I assumed it was just his agent talking him up or something.

No thanks. The most frustrating player in europe. I'm one of those who watches him week in week out(due to my love for kovacic) and he's a definite no go.

Really? I don't watch him often at all anymore, but the odd occasion I do see him he seems like he would improve us a lot (not saying much though). Would be a definite no if the hernandez part exchange for him is true though.

I remember James Ricahardson and James Horncastle taking the piss out of him being pretty poor a few months ago. He should fit right in.

Sure I read somewhere before Mourinho wanted to sign him for Madrid 2 years ago as a backup player. Does not really set the tongues wagging

Yep, he's certainly an eyesore. He wouldn't improve us IMO, just make us see Nani in a better light in terms of how frustrating a footballer can actually be. His game is flat out confusing. He's technically decent but doesn't seem to have any idea on how to use his talents. He's got some strange shoot on sight policy. Despite his obvious athletic capabilities he adds little to nothing in defence. He isn't someone that you'd say could control the tempo, or dictate the play. He's positionally a nightmare, just always confused as to what he's supposed to be bringing to the table. He's such a puzzling footballer that I've actually seen inter use him in almost every position in the front 6(bar line leading striker). He's a proper no go, the day we making signings like him a regular thing is the day we'll surrender our standing in the game.

Well we did sign Fellaini... Can't get much worse then that.

Looked a good player for Porto, was confused by Inter using him as Sneijder's replacement as he's clearly not the creative number 10 sort of player. More box to box and competitive.

We need De Rossi's or Martinez level players

How does this guy rate for Serie A fans

Last thing we need is another 7/10 midfield player

Ah that's right. Surely Rodriguez is the long-term 10 for Argentina though?

From reading the comments in here I take it he's shite then?

£40m on him and Fellaini will certainly prove to me Moyes is a bit clueless in the transfer market.

We should aim higher.

from what I've heard about Guarin you'd be right

I don't believe it will happen.... look at the level of midfielder we've been in for

I think Moyes knows the calibre of player we need - I can't see us buying another squad player

we bought Fellaini out of slight desperation - lets not throw good money after bad

Don't think he's good enough for United (well, at least the United we want to be, & not the current state of cannon-fodder we are in right now), but seems one of Inter's better (albeit inconsistent) players every time I watch them.

His only use is putting him up front on FIFA when a goal down because he has a right foot like Mjolnir, but Inter are shit on FIFA anyway so this negates him completely.
