I don't know why you're all laughing?
Forlan had a great game but he needs to prove he can score goals...this is self-evident.

Forlan just doesn't look like a goalscorer to me.
He is what he is...a very bright and lively forward.
Forlan is not an Andy Cole.

You just can't get by up front if you don't score goals.
Forlan was our best attacking player tonight but he didn't score again.
It is starting to become a problem and perhaps an indication of the goal return we can expect from him in the future.

true, he didn't really have the chances tonight and he was very brave and determined with the header...BUT...once again he didn't convert.

He has missed a lot of chances if you add them all up in the numerous games he has played so far.
He just does not look like a player capable of scoring anything like 20 goals a season to me.

FFS Redpie, give the kid a while to settle, he's only had two starts, is 22 years old, and has been thrust into a new social culture and into the culture of the biggest football club in the world. WHAT DO YOU WANT? 20 goals in two starts from a 22 year old kid from South America?????

Well, maybe you should calm down, relax and give the boy a little more time to settle in. This was his FIRST European debut. He's ONLY 22 after all and I trust SAF when he says that Diego has a lot of potential. Slagging him off is definitely NOT going to get him any goals. Just try to have a little more patience. I'm sure he will proof you wrong.

ok let me get this straightm we're pumping in the goals, left right and centre, and we're still complaining about Forlan being a Fecking bright player that he is hasn't scored yet.

OK let him change roles, see RvN running round like a chicking without a head and let Forlan score the next 20 odd.

:D :D :D

I acknowledge he is only young and has come to a new country etc.
I think he has played very well and looks like a good footballer.
What I am saying is he does not look like a natural goalscorer.
He is not a striker...this might be stating the obvious but it is also a criticism...because strikers are all about goals.
I think since the departure of Andy Cole and the decline of Dwight Yorke we no longer are quite so strong in depth and potent up front.
Nistelrooy and Solskjaer at the moment are both injured. If we go into crucial games without these players where do the goals come from?

Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, even Laurent Blanc can score...

Forlan needs the rest of the season to settle down so we can't expect unrealistic returns from him.

However, both Ole and RVN are injured which is a bit of a concern here - the goals have to come from somewhere.

I wouldn't want Forlan to be unnecessarily burdened with the task of solely getting the goals now both first-choice strikers are out.

You have a point. We haven't scored too many goals lately.

great alround play again tonight. He rarely seems to lose the ball, always makes clever use of it. A great alternative to RVN-Ole

I have no real beef with Forlan as such, as long as you accept he is not likely to score more than 15 goals in a season for United.

Forlan for Yorke I can accept...but we need a new Andy Cole to back up Nistelrooy.
We need to sign a new strong striker...

Nistelrooy,Solskjaer,Forlan and A. N. Other

Forlan played very well against Boavista and looks like he has a good future at United but goalscoring does not look like his forte.
No way is he a 1 in 2 forward.
All's I'm saying is we need another striker and Forlan will still be part of the mix.

And thats what will happen, an what would have happened. Where were you when the whole Di Canio thing was going on? that only broke down coz of Yorke otherwise we'd have had your another player

This is a bit silly! Goalscoring is such a specialized part of the game that special 'rules' apply to it. There is absolutely no way in hell you (or anybody else) would be able to make a credible judgement as to Diego's abilities as a United goalscorer at this stage. All sorts of psychological factors come into play - and Forlan is quite clearly still adapting to what must be a huge change for him in all respect. He's keen and skilful; he's got a good record in the Apertura (which isn't an easy league); and he will most likely come good for United IMO.

You can start making these types of judgements in a year's time - not now. What we CAN say as this stage is that he's got pace, vision, skill and a very good attitude. Not a bad platform...

You mean to be able to score goals you've gotta have a certain 'look'? Who would have bet that Ruud would settle down so quickly and score goals by the dozens for us? Does Ruud have the 'look'? How can you judge a player in two pathetic games?

Did you see Cole's first season at OT? He constantly missed sitters, including a rather important one at West Ham. Cole had come from Newcastle as an established Premiership goal scorer.

Nistelroy is a better player than Cole, and Soljkjear has seasons of being a consistent goal scorer. When disco is finally got rid of (as for him being in Fergie's plans, I don't think so), we will have another young striker brought in and have our strongest strike force for some time.

Forlan shows good movement and has scored plenty of goals in Argentina. He will do so here soon.

Give him time and he'll deliver the goods. You just have to have a bit of faith and trust SAF.

What is Chatteris?
Since when was goal scoring a problem for this team

We've displayed a worrying lack of creativity in big games, especially when Giggs is out or double marked. Diego shows every sign of providing that further option.

If Diego creates, and RVN, Ole, Scholes, Beckham, Giggs and even Blanc keep knocking them in then that's okay by me :D

Even Gary Neville was storming the opposition penalty area last night
