Diego looks like a great signing to me, he's got the control, passing and vision of a very good midfielder - he'd actually make a perfect link man - not what I'd expected. Most of us (except Redpie) have seen the goals he scored at Independiente and there were a lot of them, with head, left foot, right foot, scorchers from outside the area... so I know we're gonna get a lot of goals from this kid when he's relaxed and got his confidence going. Andy Cole took a year to get going for us, but I don't think Forlan will take that long and I'd feel very comfortable about giving him more first team starts as cover for an injured or rested striker. Forlan had, I think, 3 attempts on target tonight - so he's getting closer and closer, and is bound to score soon - and then he'll start to relax and place his shots better.

Well if we're being honest, it wasn't only his first season.

Well, I don't disagree. Though I think that by last season that element of his game had just about gone.

But I think it's a case of letting sleeping dogs lie with Cole; he's moved on and we have RVN who is the first world class striker we have had for a long time.

Though Forlan hasn't scored yet, he looks better to me than Cole did when he first came to OT.

Good point... Like Neil T says, Diego has exactly the right attributes to become a fantastic partner for RVN when OGS doesn't play. Maybe he could be used in midfield too...

He looks perfect for the 4-4-1-1 link man that Scholes didn't manage to do earlier in the season. I'd really like to see that, with Ruud up front. With Ole injured maybe we will see it this weekend, although teamtalk seem to think Ruud won't be playing this weekend either, in which case we're pretty stuffed.

You know, thinking about it, I agree with your idea that Forlan could be a brilliant link man. He really looks the part in that regard, and it is an interesting idea.

I used to think I was ok too but have changed my mind of late.
But, as they say, the past is a foreign country...they do things differently there.

Let Rooney be Rooney
He is top scorer (or second) in the spanish league, hes just not suited to the premier league, or more porbable, a bit part where hes in and out of the team.
