He is raw but has pontential
And I agree to an extent, he will be a good player but not the required level for us. I'm also of the belief that a player like Jesse Lingard can be of the required standard and we already have him, if we should display patience and be giving anyone a chance, it is he.

Blind would make sense if Evra leaves, which seems likely at the moment. Blind offers cover on a number of positions and van Gaal knows him well.

Me too, he has looked very good whenever I have seen him. Bar the ridiculous performances of Vlaar in the past couple of games, De Vrij is the best of the bunch.
Agreed. As I already said in the Brazil-Netherlands thread, De Vrij has been excellent for Holland and I think he's a very calm and intelligent defender, especially for his age. He'd be a great signing and a typical United one IMO - would improve our first team squad immediately and also has that potential to become even better. Granted, I haven't watched him before his WC games but If I could state an opinion about him based on his WC performances, I'd see his signing as the Luke Shaw one - a signing both for ''right now'' and for the future.

Van Gaal knows him and knows how to get the best out of him so that's another huge bonus as well.

Blind, De Vrij are the most likely options. Depay, Clasie and De Jong possible.

Not sure what signing De Vrij would achieve, we've got 2 like him already. What we need is an experienced defender.

It was just an answer he gave to the question posed by the presentator in the studio. ''Who would you think LvG would bring with him if you had to pick two from this group?''.

So he has no inside scoop on this whatsoever.

I don't think we need an experienced defender. Johnny Evans is now exactly that. We do need a top defender though whether he is young or old. Not really sure is De Vrij fits that billing.

The Neviller is just repeating age old cliches about Demichelis and has clearly not seen him play at all.

After a difficult opening month, he became a very strong player for City and was instrumental in their defensive improvement towards the end of the season. His performance against Hull after Kompany was sent off was a particular high point.

He's a good player who I respect highly.

Why would he laugh and say i know more than you etc.. though ? Not clear either way but he could have just said i have no idea or all are great players etc..

If you don't watch City often, like most United fans won't, you only see him on MOTD where his mistakes are highlighted in great detail and he's relentlessly berated.

Huh? You gyys got it all mixed up. It was RvP who said live in the studio after his van Hooijdonk rant that he knows more than the interviewer because that guy was sort of defending van Hooijdonk.

Nothing to do with transfers whatsoever.

Evans is an experienced defender. How are the other two ever going to get experience if we don't play them?
I mean someone with quality as well as experience. Smalling/Jones and Evans isn't good enough imo. Adding De Vrij doesn't really improve us and means they get even less games.

I've watched him play plenty, I've never rated him and think he's shit. If you don't agree that's fine, you're welcome to your opinion, but you don't need to invent a scenario where I'm calling a player shit having never watched him play. That's a bit silly.

No indeed i just rewatched the interview on the NOS website and he did laugh when the presentator jokingly pressed on about dutch players joining united.

I wouldn't read that much into it though. Just a laugh they were having but no doubt this would lead to some frenzy on the internet world.

I was too busy typing the van Hooijdonk rant he did on redcafe and laughing about it while the rest of the interview went on.

Seattle hasn't got any DP slots available, so there was little chance of him joining them anyway. I'd like to see him at Red Bulls of the two left.

I'm not sure how Alastair finds the time to watch him so much, what with all the Arsenal and Liverpool games he has to watch.

I'd be interested to know how many City games he catches, other than those televised that I watch too.

"Arturo Vidal, very close to signing for Manchester United"

Edit:

"Manchester United have agreed to the signing of Arturo Vidal. As noted by Chilean newspaper La Tercera, the agent of Juventus player, Fernando Felicevich, would have used his trip to London to further close the transfer of Barcelona player Alexis Sanchez Arsenal, negotiate the incorporation of Vidal to 'hell reds'.

According to the report, the group will be Louis Van Gaal from this year paid Juventus 40 million euros plus transfer Patrice Evra, worth 3 million euros. Vidal had a contract until 2017 with the 'Vecchia Signora'. In the next few hours the official statement is expected."

That may be the case but he's right, you obviously haven't watched Demichelis enough if you think he's shit because he most definitely isn't. He's had bad games, sure, as all players do, and they've been highlighted in big games like against Barcelona but he picked himself up and had a pretty solid season all things considered.

I still refuse to believe these rumours in case it ends up in heartbreak.

Yep...we are in Stage 4 on here right now. What's the bet we are all heartbroken over this in the not too distant future?

That brings back warm and fuzzy memories of the night the Herrera story broke

Took a bit longer than a few hours, but still.

I think Vidal should pretty much be in the bag.

The di Maria rumour, however, has too much of the air of the Lucas Moura transfer surrounding it, which is why I believe he'll end up at PSG. Not too fussed though, as I wanted Reus anyway. :)
