Fastest player to ever play for United

Since there are currently no games, and I'm a little bored, I thought it would be interesting to hear who you think is our fastest ever player. Don't talk about players you've never seen and don't discuss fringe players like Bellion either. They must have been starting XI quality.

I don't think Valencia was that fast. Yes, he is/was rapid, but because it's basically now his only quality attribute I feel people tend to over-perceive it.

Robben was fast, but not Giggs or Ronaldo fast. He hasn't lost his pace though, which is very impressive considering all of his injuries. Robben was more or less easily outpaced by Evra time and time again when both were at their physical prime.

I'd say in a straight sprint, Ronaldo, Ferdinand, and Kanchelskis would better Valencia. Chris Smalling is absolutely rapid too, he doesn't have the acceleration so in a 100m sprint, I'd wager him to win also.

Pallister was the fastest over 100 metres a few years in a row. That was even with the likes of Kanchelskis and Giggs.

Smalling is fast, no doubt. I always thought Giggs was faster than Kanchelskis actually, especially with the ball. Before his injuries, Giggs was extremely fast. His run against Sheffield United before setting up Hughes was electric.

Yeah, I agree with most of what you're saying. I guess with Giggs I see him as more of a speed demon on the ball, running at players as opposed to a player simply with immense athletic like strength. He may also be one of the quickest of the ball at his pomp, I'd certainly have him top 10.

Just as an aside on Rooney, he was quick but never top level quick, I always felt he had a brilliant burst of accelerative pace alongside having great upper body strength which worked well in counter attacks and basically adorned his actual level of pace.

Wow!!!

I love those counter attacks. IMO the best types of goals. You can see it coming with two three players running in full pelt and when we score its like an explosion of emotions. Btw. Can some younger technical talent set up a YouTube collection with famous United counter attacks. It would be very appreciated. :-)

Interesting - thanks for the quotes mate! I always thought of Pallister as slow...

Of course Robben was fast, but I do remember Evra outpacing him a few times, and although he is recorded as the fastest player, he has also been outpaced by Alba on Barca who Abate outpaced later on (he's a speed demon). Evra might just have had better acceleration than Robben though.

Why? When on form, Rooney is quite fast. To be fair, Rooney seems to have lost some pace in the last couple of years or so but if I m not wrong he was placed in top 10 fast players more than once and through different research.
