A very underrated player IMHO, haven't been called up yet for the Italian national team.

Impressive goal records with Feyenoord side.

Would like to see him in United shirt, as a backup for the first team maybe.

any chance of him playing for the England national team?

Well he only started being a regular scorer when he moved to Feyenoord. I don't think he's underrated personally. He's 29 now so he's obviously a late bloomer. He has started well at Southampton and could be a good buy for £8m. Himself and Tadic have linked up well.

Forgot to mention that goal at the weekend

Caulker couldn't believe it had went in.

Yeah, Koemans done a great job over there thus far. Still early days though.

Amr Zaki, iirc, also started his debit EPL season very well & faded quite a bit.

Pelle does look good though. Will be interesting to see how his session progresses.

Must be one of the first Italians who has flopped in the Serie A but who is delivering in the Premier League.

Do you lot think that Pelle is a one season wonder, just as the same as Kevin Phillips, Michu, Igor Protti?
Maybe in the Premier League, but he has already played well in Eredivisie.

He doesn't look a particularly good player to me. That said, perhaps I haven't seen enough. Just looks another Leonardo Ulloa to me.

Journeyman who had 2 good seasons in the frankly piss poor easy to score Dutch league with Feyenoord who has managed to carry on scoring at Soton.........in the first 4 matches of the season. Let's revisit in 2 or 3 months and see whether a call up to the Azzurri is still open for debate.

We already have 4 strikers. Why would we need to add another almost 30 year old striker?

That goal he scored at the weekend was pretty stunning, like something out of FIFA.

Hasn't shown anything that makes me want him at United. I think he's reached his absolute peak by playing for Southampton.

Therefore, Liverpool will probably sign him next season.

Kevin Phillips a one season wonder??? 29th top EPL scorer of all time suggests that is bullshit!
Got more than 14 goals in a Premier League season once and a third of his EPL goals came in that one season. Being around for a long time doesn't make you great.

There is a big difference between not being great and being a one season wonder!

He went through a spell of scoring 121 goals in 5 years - 2 in Championship and 3 in premier league. I don't think he should be even considered as a one season wonder

Agreed. He was a very useful player throughout his long career. One season wonder is a tag that should specifically be kept for players like Michael Ricketts.

They couldn't believe it in Italy when Southampton paid that much for him, he was considered a bit of a joke in Serie A.

Koeman obviously knows what he can bring to a side though. I think he'll do ok for a few season in the Prem but won't be moving to any of the big teams or anything.

Tadic on the other hand looks like he could play for pretty much any team. Very interesting to keep an eye on him.

Good shout that. Early days at Wigan, he looked unplayable at times and he looked perfect for Bruce's system, so did Valencia actually. His two goals against Liverpool were probably the zenith of his career, the volley was an absolute stunning strike. People suggested he would be at home at an English club in the Champions League, and it seemed like he bought into the hype and became quite lazy/shite

He never recovered that form in England, or anywhere else

Couldn't decide between Pelle, Ulloa and Jovetic for dream team, I went for the latter. what an inspired choice that was...

Yeah, looked a perfect fit for the EPL, did Zaki.

Had a bit of a attitude problem though which didn't help.

I had the same dilemma and went for Pelle simply because I expect Southampton to be a better team and more attacking than Hull or Leicester.

Phillips is a consistently good striker, yes he was probably more relegation quality/championship god than top premier league striker and that 30 goal season was a one-off.. but his bottom level was still very good - he's also not just a poacher but a good team player with solid link up play which obviously won't get reflected in statistics. Every club he has been at the fans took very well to him and he's always remembered fondly. Underrated player and definitely not a one hit wonder.

Phillips performed well enough that he deserved a shot at a big club as a squad player. Think he would have kicked off from there if he did.

funny how all the experts here predicted Koeman to be sacked early and Soton going down.. laughable. Pelle is white Pelé..

Watch him join Tottenham or Liverpool next summer and proceed to flop.

Great start to his Premier League career though.

Selling Lambert and signing this guy seems great business at the moment.

Still can't believe Liverpool bought Lambert.

He's getting the headlines but it was all about Tadic today, absolutely ran the show. 4 assists and a goal, this lad will play at a higher level soon
