Actually on second thought I can see why Fellaini is in for herrera. Extra defensive cover, muscle and height due to not having any senior center backs so he can help out blind and McNair. Makes sense.
I think Carrick will be CB and Blind midfield.

This! I don't see what the fuss is about. A lot of our fans are maybe just desperate to have a fashionable spaniard in the team. He hasn't bad at all but he didn't stand out either. Why are we surprised anyway, the fact that we were the only ones for him should tell us something. He is promising and definitely a good addition but that's about it really.
I don't agree about the fact that we were the only club serious club in form him, as that doesn't prove anything really. And I think he's a good player - the best is very much still to come.

I just don't think he's been that good so far. Good? Yes. But nothing more, nothing less.
He's out of the team, and I don't see the big deal really.

You mean the same bench he's been sitting on the last three games?
Did you see him against West Brom? the game right after he supposedly cracked his rib? Completely off the pace and could only last 45 min... Look i'm a huge fan of his and i am sure LvG is given how much hes played him when hes fit but if a players injured/another players steped up like Fellaini has it becomes a obvious decision

fecking Fellaini played himself into the first 11 and putting good performances every week.

I someone would have told me 3 weeks ago that Herrera can't get in the team because Fellaini is too good, I would have laughed my ass off.

I really do not like this team. It was fine vs City and Chelsea but they need more creativity in a game like this. Big test for Januzaj and Di Maria today. They both need a big performance.

Why oh why are we not playing our best player in his best position? Not sure how Januzaj deserves another start, he's been atrocious vs. Chelsea and the 30 minutes against City.
Maybe because Januzaj has been playing well in training? He is more of a natural wide player than mata or herrera.

Just because he hasn't played great against city or Chelsea doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to start against relegation battler.

These players sometimes need to play themselves into form. I don't think he deserves any less game time than Mata (or for that matter - most of the squad).

I think it's good that he is is playing and I hope he has a good game.

I don't think herrera is 100% yet either, LVG probably doesn't want him on which could leave him more vulnerable to more time to put.

Not sure about the lack of height and strength between Blind and McNair but I cannot wait to see Carrick back in midfield.

It is getting to the point with AJ that he needs to produce. He looks scared of his own shadow and just once I'd like to see him throw caution tot he wind and attack, attack, attack. he can attack one on one but for whatever reason seems reluctant to do so.

Didn't think he was bad against Chelsea or City especially considering the lack of first team football he had before that. Glad he's playing today. We need the width.
Width perhaps, but the threat rarely tapers into a point. The end product can be as lacking as Valencia's it's just that Januzaj is direct about it. Now he's a winger and also young so these aren't lasting judgements, however Januzaj must start producing in the final third [little different to Nani on bad day otherwise].

We were moving forward better with Carrick making that first pass out from the back last week. Blind has been solid but he is not really a game-changer in that regard. We might get a few good attacks going today.

We haven't been. But Fellaini has played well and since he has continued to get starts, he is clearly doing what van Gaal is telling him to do.
I actually don't have a problem with Fellaini, it's picking RVP all the time and I don't think Januzaj has justified his place in the team.

Is Carrick actually in midfield, I thought we would play as we did in the Citeh game with Carrick as CB...?

It doesn't matter what you do in training, it's in the games that matter.

I feel for this game, Fellaini is in the team over Herrera to give some help via his aerial proficency and strength to the inexperienced centerback duo of Carrick and McNair. He has not been bad the last few game, but I still rather see Herrera in our team due to the fluidity, energy and dynamisn he brings. I really expect nothing but a win and hopefully, Di Maria regains his early season form.

LVG talks about balance, looks like a pretty unbalanced side to me. Don't like Valencia at RB would of rather seen Vermijl start.

What sort of balance can he achieve when most of our defense is injured or suspended.

Herrera, I'm sure, will be back in the starting 11 after the upcoming break. Surely he's not playing due to his injury not being completely healed.

Anything other than a win today would be unforgiveable. Even with our dodgy back line.

Liverpool have dropped points, and there's a good chance Arsenal will as well this weekend.

I think Herrera will be brought back slowly from injury. Makes sense when there are midfielders actually performing.

It's not a bad team but what's happened to the 4-4-2 diamond which was a massive success.
