We went to the Emirates with an absolutely decimated squad and came away with 3 points, and are now in 4th. Not so shit after all ehh. Wait til the rest of the players return.
Exactly. Everyone did well to maintain a good shape and some young defenders made naive mistakes. Yet we beat Arsenal away from home. Good match.

How in the world of feck did we win this?

That said, LVG deserves a bit of luck...

I just hope he's not going to continue this five at the back nonsense because we won.

Defense all over the place at times, attackers stuggling to click, questionable selections, formation changes every second game and an unholy amount of injuries.

On the other hand we're in 4th place,so there's that.

Am I the only one grateful he switched to 5 at the back? We were always going to get murdered in midfield and there's no way 2 at the back would have been enough to keep them out when 3 barely managed.

Thought he got it right given what he had available, was more reminiscent of the Dutch performances at the WC than anything else.

I actually thought we were the better team after that first 30 mins when Arsenal should have scored 5. Just passing the ball too poorly at the moment.

Just a blatant stuff up from 0-3.

That said, I don't think we have the CBs for three at the back. I guess he's worried that Carrick can't shield as well as Blind could.

I really want to see him drop RVP though.

Shaken, and very stirred......
Brilliant manager. Lost nearly 10 players...but had a plan...no not exciting...just a plan to try to win...and it paid off. Lost Shaw early...but still managed to readjust to create the possibility of winning, or drawing. We need this guy right now....let him get the other players he wants...give him time, for goodness sake.

 So many gits in here. Our team is decimated by injuries. To get any sort of win is fantastic. I'm absolutely delighted.

Don't know what people expected. We had two wingers in defence and two inexperienced players.

Results matter for me not performance at this stage. We can win next two games and we on a roll.

This win has absolutely nothing to do with LVG. We got a lucky goal and then Arsenal played into our hands.

He deserved some luck. Our injury situation is ridiculous and he still hasnt been able to field his strongest side even though we're nearly in December.

Nor would a draw or a loss in that case. Anything can happen out there. We got the lucky goal and kicked on with the counters from there.

This. And great to see a bit of positivity with all the pessimism in here!

We've just taken 3 points from a direct top 4 rival in their own ground and people are complaining - incredible.

I wonder how many stupid posts/threads there'd be if Welbeck had scored and/or we'd lost?

I started a thread questioning whether some experienced posters were subtly against Van Gaal after people were actually complaining after we beat Palace - if people are gonna be openly bitching after beating Arsenal away it's actually surreal.

Did he? While we did really well to win in the end, I didn't really feel like it was down to LVG. And this is from someone who's mostly defended him so far.

If we lost this game 3-0 I don't think many would be claiming that we were unlucky.

We've got injuries so it's understandable but we were just plain lucky today.

Don't agree.
Why? It was De Gea's brilliance that saved us, nothing else. Yes, we have injuries, but picking this line-up and the 3-5-2 formation is absolutely mind-boggling decision. Not to mention that the players will get confused by all this tactic switching.

Luck is merely the intersection of opportunity and hard work. We took everything they had in the 1st half and then took our chances (well except for Di Maria) in the 2nd. Given the injury situation, we did ok.

I agree, but fair fecks LVG you've shut me up

I'm a huge fan of LVG but this was a smash and grab, not a defensive masterclass with counter attacking prowess. A defensive masterclass is giving nothing to the opposition, not giving them 3 gilt-edged opportunities that only their own dreadful finishing ruined.

Players' jobs is to adapt whatever manager says to them. We have 3 formations, its better to have more than just one.
We werent great, DDG saved us all right, but to say LVG doesnt have anything to do it with it is wrong. Given all the injuries and circumstances he did the best he could.

I have absolutely no idea if this win was inspired by pure luck or not, whether LvG's formation was madness or brilliance. In the end we got 3 points by winning in the Emirates. Moments determine succes or faillure in football. Like the goal in e.t. by Ramos in cl final. In the end, especially given our injuries and our current situation, the result is al that matters.

Plus another injury through Shaw very early in the game. Great result.

Has more points V the top 6(Arse,pool,City,Chelsea,Spurs,Everton) after 4 games than Moyes had after 12.
This is true. But I think the only team in that list who look as good as they did last year is Chelsea.
Again, I think this game and the City game, in particular, told us more about them than us.

This win has just as much to do with Van Gaal as the piss poor performance in the first 30 mins, he's not on the fecking pitch making these bone headed decisions and losing the ball in stupid positions is he? Smalling excelled in the back 3 once we settled, the formation was the right choice.
