So much wasted time and effort passing it sideways and backwards from the halfway line, don't mind that when we are controlling games or are ahead but its infuriating to watch when you are losing. The second CM position is dead with Fletcher occupying it, offers absolutely nothing, Di Maria at HT, no fecking about now.

Well deserved lead? Sounds like it's been more of the same from us...
Yeah, we've controlled but are slow and lethargic both on and off the ball. Mata and Fletcher have been disastrous. Rooney has done well. Little service to the strikers as usual.

Why do most matches we rely on our fullback crossing into the box, or the opposition making a mistake in the defence, ie loose balls

Whats the point of all the possession if youre going to pass backwards, at least try and make some chances, take long range shots when in good position, you cant just rely on passing ball into the goal from a full backs cross everytime

Started off well enough, they got a goal out of nothing and since then they've defended and pressed us well. We're lacking Herreras creativity and pace with his passing in the middle more then anything I think. Di maria will hopefully come on in the second half, not sure for who.

We can probably afford to push Carrick up here as villa are just parking the bus pretty much.

With 3-5-2 were are getting no overlaps cause it's always our fullbacks attacking on the wings by themselves.
without a pacy striker to stretch it, it must be quite comfy to hold a team playing this formation.

Typical Fellaini missed this game, as he'd have probably dealt with that high ball to Benteke in the first place.

I'd take Fletcher off. Put Carrick in midfield and bring in Di Maria in there. 3-5-2 is an absolute joke. Everytime we play it we look shite.

Thought Fletcher and Rooney were doing fine in midfield. Falcao, van Persie and especially Mata however need to do far more.

We are trailing by a goal, but playing as if we are winning comfortably 2-0. Need to show a bit more urgency.

Rubbish. It's a combination of players playing in wrong positions, injuries, and Fletcher being shite. Think we'll score 3 in the 2nd half though if Van Gaal pulls the plug on Fletch early.

Enormously frustrating. Not quick enough, not penetrative enough. Decent possession, but little intent. Really think we need Di Maria on for Fletcher or even Mata, who've been pretty anonymous.

My worry is that the main bonus about the last 6 games is the winning mentality which was wholly lost last season and I've never really felt we've got it back..with a shit result today that'll take longer to rebuild.

Our midfielders incapable of making a creative pass, no through balls unless they tried them in the air

which is food and drink for vlaar

    everything very efficient but predictable

we need pace and dribblers, but more importantly we need more players to show some guts and attempt to beat a man

Holy hell that was a boring half of football. Conceding early has totally killed the game, though you can hardly blame Villa for their strategy. Can't say that we've done much to quicken pace. Unfortunate to be trailing, in a way. Credit to Benteke for that finish. Changes needed in the second half, but I'm not sure when. You wouldn't think di Maria is fit enough to play more than half an hour and he's the one this game is crying out for.

More shit football from us in this 5-3-2 formation.

Slow passing and absolutely no urgency. The players seem to be content on keeping the ball despite being down a goal. No penetration and no real chances created in an entire 45 minutes. The strikers just look starved of the ball.

Special mentions to Evans and Fletcher. Both have been woeful. Evans failing to deal with a routine cross into the box which led to benteke's goal. This guy will never make the grade at Manchester United and should not be anywhere near our first 11. I've been saying this for years now.

Fletcher just looks like someone who barely has played football and cant pick out a pass.

We are just playing cowardly football in which we are happy to keep it in the centre circle where we are of no threat. We also shit ourselves when our backline passes the ball out of defence.

I wish we would stop giving so much respect to this villa side which is frankly average at best. We should be pummelling them with crosses and runs into the box.

This is hard to watch. We don't have any midfield tokay at all. Fletcher only there to pass the ball to Rooney and Evans has chances to drive forward but he can't or don't know how to pass to the forwards rather play it to Rooney or Young. Basically, everything goes through Rooney.

    • Evans was so useless, Mata making a lot of runs and he's just so scared of passing
    • Need better movement off the ball
    • Need more urgency and pace

Would be interesting to see first half stats.

Take off Fletcher and Mata, and bring on Rafael and Di Maria. 442 diamond, please!

    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Evans - Young
    Carrick
    Valencia - Di Maria
    Rooney
    Van Persie - Falcao

Always saw you as more of a tea drinker...
Of course I am, but I don't waste good tea on limp counter attacks. Tea only gets thrown once Jonny Evans passes it to the opposition striker, and I always have a cup ready for that before the match starts.

It feels like 90% of our passes are dircted backwords
That's what boggles my mind all the time. How can other teams play quick, direct football while we seem to take ages to move the ball a few yards forward. Even a shit team like Villa counters very quickly and makes use of the space available. We don't seem able to do this anymore. I'm asking myself if it's just the lack of pace or if they're under these instructions from LVG.

This is how we've been playing all season. It seems possession means more than anything else. Winning is always a welcome bonus.

Carrick is being wasted in defense, he should move to midfield with Di Maria coming instead of Fletcher. We have possesion but dont really know what to do with it. Our lines arent connected well in the attack, there is a big hole between the midfield and the attack and RVP and Falcao arent getting any service up front.
If we loose to this Villa side I'll be gutted cause they're just awful.

Completely abject performance truth be told. Need an injection of pace not only in our movement and pace, but our intensity and passing too.

AdM on for Mata for the 2nd half please and Rafael for Fletcher if there are no immediate signs of improvement. Would see us revert back to the diamond.
