Delighted with the line up. It's a shame about Smalling, he's been fantastic recently but we should be okay.

I think dropping Young would have been unfair. He was only alright against Liverpool but based on his overall performances he deserves to be in the starting line up. It's always healthy for a club to show that anyone can make the starting line up if they play well enough, we've shown that with McNair and Blackett earlier in the season (although we were down to the bare bones) and we're showing it with Young now.

I'm confident of a win. Normally I'm not too fussed about how we play once we get a result but for the first time this season, I think its important that we play well.

Villa playing a diamond apparantly. More than confident that Carrick and Herrera can control that midfield and we should destroy them wide.

Obviously happy to see nearly the same line up, shame about Smalling though. I hope he comes back in for the next game and his good performances aren't forgotten.

shame for Smalling.....hopefully back next week

that team picked itself really - lets keep it going boys!!!

hopefully able to give some of the bench a decent 25/30 mins - I hate games we expect to be comfortable though....this could just as easily be a 2-1 or 3-2

No he didn't. He went off because he offered feck all attacking threat, you know like wingers are supposed to?
Young was excellent in helping Blind out against Liverpool and we missed him badly when he went off

I think he actually went off due to injury though

Was hoping for a Di Maria start. Otherwise, I am happy with the lineup.

 He offers us much more than Angel Di Maria who's been pathetic for us.
He's our most creative player by far and has way more assists then anyone else in our squad.... He's been disappointing but he hasn't been that bad, christ. On form he's still one of the very best players in the world.

The team dropped off massively before he came on. Even lvg admitted that. Amazing, bloody hell. Calm down. He's been a massive surprise this season but let's not fool ourselves into thinking he's the answer.
I am perfectly calm my friend. I was merely pointing out that I didn't think Young was poor or that he was taken off because he was playing poorly. Even I wanted to see Di Maria in place of Young today because I also think that Young "is not the answer" in the long term.

You might be happy with him, but for me he's been so bad for us. I expected so much more from him since he signed, but he just keep giving the ball away and doesn't seem to care. Happy that LvG agrees that Young and Mata are the best option for us.

Well di Maria certainly wasn't brought on to help out blind. The team did drop off though, that can't be denied. The first halfs intensity wasn't matched at all once Gerrard saw red. Youngs tracking back over creativity shouldn't be needed over villa IMO. Like I said youngs done well this season but he's still offering very little in an attacking sense.

Yeah, but try and stay objective and judge everyone equally. He's been poor for his standards, but if you compare everyone from the same level, which is what you should do but you clearly aren't, then he still offers us loads. Van Gaal is sticking with Young because he's in good form and fair enough, but it's pure stupidity to think that he's a better player then Di maria.

Funny that is coming from you who defend Di Maria in every thread no matter what.. And at the moment yes, Young is better than Di Maria.

But he is playing better than him which is all that counts!

He's ahead of him on merit yes I agree. The guy said he was pathetic though for us, which is ridiculous. Even then though, going forward, Young doesn't over us much going forward. He has 1 goal and 1 assist all season I think? Says it all.

Yes I defend him when people go way over the top with their criticism and just constantly bang on him just because the guy cost 60m... He didn't choose the fecking price so who gives a feck about how much he cost. Judge him fairly. He has been disappointing, I'm not arguing that, but it's his first season in the premier league, he's had off field problems, but he still creates more chances per game then anyone else in our team, pretty sure he makes double the chances the others make at least even. He has by far the most assists and if he can get in form again, he'd be our best player. Not hard to understand why someone would back him and hope he picks up form again.

It's called having a bit of faith (which the majority on the caf haven't had since Fergie retired really...) and backing your players.

Great line-up, but I'm almost as excited to see the substitutions, gotta be:

    De Gea
    Valencia Jones Rojo Rafael
    Carrick Blind
    Herrera
    Mata Falcao Di Maria

Hopefully Rooney gets a rest. I want to see a latin front four - might be what Falcao needs :wenger:

Everyone is far too confident, I'll take one for the team and say we'll draw.
Surely we'll have learnt lessons from earlier on in the season where we couldn't win against 10 men?

I hope we put that right today and pummel them.

Having said that, Agbonlahor and Benteke seem to turn it on against us.

Let's get the points here. I'm anxious as we should win this but that always seems to be the times we struggle, when I expect us to perform.

    Come on lads!

Good line-up, not benching the in form players for some of the bigger stars. It is a fine line to walk though, hopefully we see some early substitution for ADM to try and find form too.

Great line up, glad Young keeps his place too, ADM shouldn't be allowed to play ahead of Young when he's been so bad.

Good on LVG for playing inform players and not the "big" name players.
