I think Carrick has been immense. Very fast to push up and anticipate their passing, which has led to a few counters.

Good first half from us I suppose. We're on top for most of it but Spurs are pretty poor - possibly because we're doing a good job to starve them of opportunities though.

Schneiderlin gets stuck in, and looks a very good signing - Darmian too. Really solid and assured from him. Depay looks a threat, but Romero makes me nervous.

Lucky with Rooney being slow and Walker putting it into his own net. Link up play between the midfielders and strikers isn't that good though. Both need to be sharper.

That goal was hilarious. Rooney looked at the ball as if he didn't have a clue what to do with it then here comes Walker steaming in to give us a lead out of nowhere.

Darmian has carried his preseason in to this game. Love him already. Memphis a joy too, although i want him on the left wing cutting inside.

Take Young off later and go:

    Carrick
    Herrera - Schneidi
    Mata - Depay
    Rooney

Didn't expect to see Müller feature this prominently in an english commercial.

He improved later on in the half, but before that, he lost too many balls in possession.
Really, I can't remember too many. I remember him getting fouled, and therefore losing one ball, but I can't remember any others (my stream was out for the first 5 minutes, so that could be it.)

edit: just saw a highlight of one such instance, leading to a shot - happened before I got my stream running. Any others?

    1. If that own goal didn't go in, imagine the Rooney bashing right now......
    2. Romero actually has pretty good distribution :)
    3. Team is still mentally weak, all our good performances last season relied on getting a early goal in the first half to boost confidence.
    4. Pedro plz

Think the Rooney critcism is harsh. His movement has been good, he is link up play has looked promising if rusty. Case in point the curling cross from deep aimed toward Memphis.

Starting to feel more confident about him leading the line this season. Its easy to forget how good he can be as lone striker.

We have secretly re-signed OG thankfully as we weren't creating too much or looking like scoring. Romero looks wobbly as expected and Shaw and Schneiderlin have been careless too often.

Darmian has been the stand out of the half and Memphis has had a couple of decent moments.

Not really sure why Rooney was taking a second touch before the goal. Thank God Kyle Walker was a numpty to score it for us instead of our star striker.

Damian and Smalling have been fantastic. The other have been meh at best. Need to stop giving away the ball. Especially Morgan and Mata. Rooney looks unconvincing up front

We're so incredibly vulnerable to a single bad pass/good tackle playing this way. This whole philosophy puts all of the pressure on the CBs and the GK to not make mistakes. Mental.

    Darmian looks pretty decent :D
Best player on the pitch so far for me. A few times I've thought that if Valencia were playing there would have been no way he'd have tracked his man like Darmian.

ROoney cannot pass - completely messed up that last break with his pass to Memphis. Also I'm getting tired of this philosophy - Romero is obviosuly trying to pass it out constantly but there doesn't seem to be anyone open - the way SPurs are pressing we should have a free man but where is he? Yet when we press Spurs have acres of space...

Well amid the pessimism I'm quite happy how the first half went. Poor start but really progressed. As the game goes on I can see Shaw and Darmian really cause them problems on the overlap, young should've scored and Mata could've have one.

Not a bad half after a slow start.

Darmian is a brick wall. No one has had the better of him yet. Winning everything. Attacks sensibly. Impressive start. Schneiderlin has been very good defensively. Not so good with the ball, some poor passes, but that will come with sharpness. Young and Memphis have done well too. A couple of times I thought Memphis should have passed rather than trying a shot, but he is looking confident. His touch and turns are great.

Rooney is putting in his usual lottery performance. Some very good touches and linking up, then some godawful ones. I don't think he did badly for the goal. The ball was played in to him with some real force, and had a short bounce on it. He could have ballooned it over quite easily. It was a difficult ball to deal with.

Darmian the best player in the pitch. Smalling, Smashley, Memphis and Mata were quite good. Blind played good too.

Rooney and Schneiderlin were bad IMO. Especially Rooney who looks very slow.

I expect another couple of goals from us. Rooney and Chich scoring them.

Hopefully we'll see Herrera for Schneiderlin in the second half.

Missed most of the first half. I take it we were on the back foot before OG opened his account for the season?

Yeah, but it was hardly backs against the wall stuff. We've been pretty average and Spurs have been a shade worse. Darmian has impressed, though. And I'm still waiting to see Memphis electrify Old Trafford.

Decent half, atleast we're carrying our style into this season, something that didn't happen last season.

We didn't threaten enough but atleast we were dynamic enough near the goal a couple of times which was encouraging to see

Darmian amazing, Mata good, Smalling decent.

That's probably the only element missing before we can say we have plenty of speed and skill in the front 4.
Yeah there was few moments Mata was running in behind. But if Pedro was in that position he'd be through on goal.

    Darmian has been fantastic.

Want to see Depay on the wing and Mata central.

Rooney took that unnecessary touch that FIFA sometimes forces you to take.

Early days yet but we did get the rub of the green there in that first half. Linesman made a wrong call for the Spurs offside and Walker ended up doing something Rooney should have done a lot faster.

Darmian looks solid enough but overall we looked dodgy enough at the back. No one appears to be trying to dictate things in midfield. Memphis along with Young the only two that look a threat up front.

Can a win be a loss?
Hey, we didn't win many of these types of games last season, which cost us top 3. Not that I think we can challenge for the title this season, but winning these is certainly a start.

Pedro is really gonna be a big upgrade on Young. Get that done asap please.

Put Depay out wide and Mata in the middle.

Bring in Herrera for Schneiderlin who has been a bit sloppy imo.
Mata will get thrown around even more in the middle. Not sure whether he deserves a place in the team.

Romero's mistakes followed by this facial expressions have been the bright spark of the game so far.

Happy with that, we looked nervous from the start but settled down after the goal and looked better and better as the half went on. Darmian, Young, and Mata has looked good but the stand out player in the first half has to be Carrick he is the perfect midfielder for the type of football Van Gaal wants us to play.

Darmian looks like a great signing. Being the first game of the season, overall decent first half with some great opening minutes. The passing and decision making seems a bit rusty.

Just put Herrera on and take Carrick off and I think we'll be fine but who knows? I just want to win tbh - don't care how at the moment.
