United scrape to an opening victory of the season. Kyle Walker's first-half own goal was the difference and an indifferent second-half from United saw Spurs finish strongly and nearly nick an equaliser.

Not a great game and the three points was all that mattered. Even then, the performance was miles better than the opening day last season when we lost to Swansea!

Not convincing. But you have to win these kinds of matches.

Atleast we won this time.

We'll need to keep improving but a solid start.

Smalling, Darmian, Schweinsteiger and (in the second half) Romero did well.

Spurs started well and ended well. We generally did well in the bulk of the game but we didn't create many clear chances where as Spurs had enough to get 3 points out of this comfortably.

Rooney was poor throughout for me. Darmian superb. Smalling very good. Blind hit and miss. Mata good. Schneiderlin, Carrick and Schweini showed quality at key times in the middle period.

That said, it's a results business and this is a decent enough performance to build on from here. Great end result and on to the next one.

So the defence that everybody have worried about have been superb, especially Mike.

...but the star studded attack and midfield we've all been looking forward to haven't really hit it off...yet.

Darmian and Smalling were very good. Blind did surprisingly well, and Memphis looked bright in the first half. Second half was pretty poor though

Eye watering amounts of money spent.....outplayed by Tottenham, had our 1st shot on target after 65 minutes while a number of our better players play out of position or don't play at all. Philosophy.

Good performance by own goal, glad to see him back.
Hopefully he can chip in with a few again this year.

Terrible performance. Great 3 points.

Smalling was a beast. New guys did ok. Need more quality up front. Probably don't need 2 holding midfielders at home.

We won't win the league. Need massive improvements upfront!

Really hope we get pedro, his pace will help our laboured attack!
Schweinsteiger impressed me with his leadership

What a shit match, both teams were quite awful but Tottenham are even more awful. So much mediocrity.

3 points, Herrera needs to play with Depay on the left. Smalling is a beast ad Darmian was very solid.

New signings looked good, Smalling did great. Not happy about having to wait an hour for our first shot on target though... still, 3 points is the main thing.

it wasn't convincing, it wasn't pretty, but we got the job done and that's what matters

We controlled game but created very little and they had best chances of the game. Similar trend to last season but without the better goalkeeper to save us - we'll need to improve from here

That was really really poor. There was just no connection whatsoever between midfield and attack.

We did the business. Going to have to step up next match though, no idea where our goals are going to come from.

Need more pace and creativity upfront. Darmian was excellent. Romero did well but doesn't fill me with confidence. Smalling is a beast.

Despite investing half a billion we are miles away from proper title contender

Delighted with the win. Not overly arsed about the performance although I think all players looked very committed

Was nervy stuff at the end

We have a lot to do. Small patches of great play but otherwise we just don't look like a championship winning team.

Smalling and Darmian did well, both teams look tired, we had a few good chances too, Memphis did well too but needs to be out wide, Mata was very good in the second half

Garbage. Need to improve a lot. Spurs look very mid table and outplayed us for a lot of the game.

Shaken, and very stirred......
I think people are moaning a bit too much. Three or four players bedding in - that isn't easy, players still a bit short of match fitness (as will be the case in all the teams today) and there were some really promising performances by the new guys. The understanding will come -

We did enough. Typical opening day. At least we start with a win. A few players caught the eye.

Done the job. Need to get the GK situation sorted asap but Romero looked good today (though he made me nervous with his passes). Sign another striker and a CB, sort GK and we're good to go.
