It's hard to remember now that Raul Meireles ever existed, let alone that he played for Liverpool and Chelsea.

Not really. Inter is renowned of giving some real gems to AC Milan in exchange for less talented players. The classic exchange of the Baresi brothers (Franco and Beppe). The exchange of Pirlo and Giullimpietro, the exchange between Coco and Seedorf etc. Eventually they stopped doing it and focused in strengthening other clubs instead. For example they gave Juventus Cannavaro for Carini. TBF Inter are renowned for such deals. Its a shame we haven't yet noticed such trait. I wouldn't mind us getting Icardi in straight swap with Valdes
I think swap deals in Italy are common as a way of balancing the books without money exchanging hands. It's creative bookkeeping, it's not that they think Cannavaro is as good as Fabien Carini.
