Him and Lara are oustanding individual cricketers of our generation. However, not much of team players.

I'd have Inzamam anyday over those two.

Not so sure about Lara, but Tendulkar's always been a pretty good team player from what I've seen.
Both are good team players...

Speaking in terms of opposition and pitches almost all of Lara's centuries were scored in more testing conditions and hence memorable. Sachin lacks the flamboyance to continue once he crosses the 150 mark but Lara usually makes it big once he bats more than three sessions.

But scoring 30+ hundreds in Test match cricket is not a joke and only the exceptional batters can dream of achieving that. Sachin deserve to get credited for that.

Bit optimistic, I'd have to say.
He will play for 3 years more, and if he remains fit, he will get there.
He normally scores 8-9 centuries in a calendar year if fit and in descent form.

Yes, but injuries have taken their toll and though he's been playing well recently, one can't ever tell when next he's going to be out. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind seeing him reach that milestone, but I don't see it happening.

Seventy two.
The more of you think about that number, more the sheer genius of the man becomes clear.

He scores at an average of 4.5 Test Centuries in a calendar year. So in the next three years he might score 13- 14 centuries. But now a days he is more content in playing a long innings..aiming for double and treble hundreds.

So he must score more than 15 ODI hundreds in three years to compensate that and thats really a tough task considering his age and fitness.

It would be a fitting farewell, if he could lead India to a WC victory in 2007.
Won't happen though :(
Dravid will be the captain of the winning team :D ;)

And that's my whole point, BEFORE Ern laughed at me. (Thanks Ern!)

Tendulkar is a great batsman. Full stop. Lara is also a great batsman. But personally I think Tendulkar has done more than Lara for this country. Inzamam is not on the same level as those two on an individual level.

HOWEVER, neither Indian nor West Indian fans truly believe their greatest (in this generation) players have the ability to help their country win the world cup. Inzamam has already done this in 1992 (fantastic peformance in the semis against NZ and fitting contribution in the final among others).

I would include Wasim in that list...
I should have said elite batsmen. There have been many outstanding cricketers (Wasim, Waqar, Warne, McGrath, etc, etc).

What are you on about?

Loads of other batsman have been in a WC winning team, none of England ones of course, have played good inings, doesnt mean they are better than Sachin or Lara.
Have you even followed Paksitan cricket team over last decade? Before he was made captain, he was a really selfish player in the team.

Then she sucks on my balls
What have odi's got to do with a players contribution to there teams anyway, also if you were to judge tendulker and lara on the basis of teamwork sometimes lara has been a bit selfish but id say hes dug the windies out a few more holes than tendulker has for india.both great players though.

That's true but Lara has had too many barren patches, Sachin has been probably the most consistent batsman after Bradman.

I've already said Inzi is not individually as good as Tendulkar/Lara. But where do you get this Inzi being a rather selfish person before being made captain from? Being an avid Pakistani cricket fan since 1984 I would say, yes, I do follow Pakistan cricket. The other comment is that 17 of Inzi's measly 24 test centuries have resulted in Pakistan victories. I'd like to see some similar stats for Tendulkar if anyone has those.

Inzamams been top drawer over the past three seasons. David Gower reckons he's averaged nearly 80 over the period. Always been well talented, but he's been on a different level since the captaincy. Lara, Fat Inzi and Vaughan are the best three batsmen in the world.

Sachin's shit.
