agree but can be useful in those handful cases and its not really difficult to do that, its really 4 numbers next to every player :)
The intent is very good but this new rule is not without consequences:

- discussions regarding the career peak of the player: agree or not about the 4 numbers
- managers who possess versatile players would be urged to stick to the specific positioning related to these 4 numbers

To illustrate my point, let's take the example of a player like Roberto Carlos.

He played in many tactical systems (4 or 5 defenders). So instead of discussing his qualities as an outside midfielder (3-5-2) or a left-back (4-4-2), we will have the following remarks "Oh! you use him in a 4-4-2 system and you say his career peak was between 1996-99. I am not happy because his career peak was in 2002: as luck would have it, he played in a 3-5-2 system with Brazil during the WC 2002."

There is a difference between saying " I know he is bad in your tactical system for x reasons given the quality of my team" and saying " I fully disagree with the career peak you mentioned so your player is bad because he used to play in another position at his real career peak".

Not to mention the facts some players have 2 peaks and the fact that a career peak is not necessarily inferior to a period of 3 years.

My opinion is that the 2 opposing managers have to do research about the players and explains their views on the basis of facts, figures with dates.

There are pros and cons.

@Downcast similar thing happened in LaLiga/BL/SerieA draft with Mascherano but in that case you have to trust that people will use common sense in this situations. If anything, in this situations usually a larger group of posters stand in defense of the defendant so its really not a big deal while in the case where you dont put the peak on the table u can easily "switch" from one period to another after certain comments about your team/player.
But lets close this topic for now, we are going in circles....majority of people dont want peaks black on white so its the best that we just leave that issue alone.

@Šjor Bepo

Personally I will specify the peaks as I did in my last game against vivajanuzaj ;)

but what a fecking beast is Diego Godin! By far the best CB in the world for the last few years, one of the rare defenders in modern football that can actually defend. You "lucky" bastard @BBRBB

Indeed he is incredibly overlooked while it very easy to see how he influenced both Atletico and Uruguay to compete at the highest level.

A steal as 4th pick.

Just a final thought on the three-year peak business:

To me it should always be possible to experiment in these drafts. Simply replicating historical teams and/or combinations and/or patterns – is just one of the routes a manager can take. He can also choose to ignore what is historically proven and instead try to construct something new, based on the characteristics of the players he has drafted.

What this could entail is fielding Player X in a custom role which is not identical to anything he did, at any point in his career – but rather based on different roles he successfully played in. I stress that this is not in any way comparable to the Scholes/Schuster situation: The latter amounts to – effectively – fielding the same player in two different (historical) roles at the same time. What I'm talking about is creating a new role for the player, based on his known abilities and traits. To limit a player to a three-year peak (in which he played as A, B or C) would make this sort of experiment much more vulnerable to – well – a form of criticism which can allow itself to simply ignore the actual arguments offered, and insist on protocol (so to speak).

To me, at least, the danger is that in an attempt to make things clearer – you end up streamlining them at the expense of creativity and out-of-the box thinking. As I keep saying in these drafts, it's fantasy at the end of the day. It isn't some sort of academic exercise where the goal is to get things “right” as per the historical facts. The way I see it, the managers should think like – well – managers: If you had these players at your disposal, how would you set them up and what instructions would you give them?

About Godin, I was planning on throwing it out here anyway after the game, but I have to say I'm not sure he's not getting overrated here recently.
First of all, I think his a world class CB and there's no doubt about it. And yeah, he's been outstanding to Atletico and Uruguay for several years now. And there's no doubt Godin is one of the standouts in this generation of CBs.
But the real question for me when someone picks him in these drafts, is can he do the same job he does for Atletico? Not to take anything away from managers here, but few of them can rally up players like Cholo does, and more importantly I don't think Godin was ever played in a defensive-work-rate-fanatics like Atletico.
Now I'm not saying Godin can't play in a different system or not good enough, I just think it's a bit hard to judge him completely when he's playing outside that system. A bit like an opposite flip of trying to understand if Pique is a good defender outside the high defensive line tiki taka.

So maybe theres always a small doubt for me, that Godin is one of these top notch players for Atletico and a brick wall defensively, but he just as well could've left Atletico for Chelsea or something and find it hard under another setup, or with a managers that doesn't demand half as much from the rest of the field players

I get where you are coming from but unless there is a notable case (circumstantial evidence or a decent rationale as to why his playing style won't be a fit etc - J.Terry) for the said player being at a level less than his peak in other systems, I wouldn't pay too much heed to it. Godin has mostly excelled in a deeper and compact systems for both Atletico and Uruguay but there is nothing there to suggest that he couldn't extrapolate that form into a slightly more conventional set-up. Do recall him being a fine defender for Villareal myself but can't say I've watched much of him there. Of course, it would be hard to buy him in a high line Barca-esque set-up, as it would be to buy Pique in a deep Atletico style defense. But there is always a mid-point and I don't see why Godin HAS to be utilised in an extreme set-up for him to excel.

For instance, Facchetti always played in a deep catenaccio styled defense for both club and country during the entirety of his career, and was more or less a man-marker all things said and done. Just because he was brilliant attacking weapon during the possession phase, it did not excuse him from La Grande Inter's rigorous defensive duties. However, we do give some leeway to Facchetti and several others in how we interpret their roles in a more modern zonal system etc (which is understandable given the tactical differences during various eras). Would anyone say Facchetti wouldn't be at his peak defensively in a more conventional or even an adventurous set-up? We primarily focus on his tactical nous and sheer athleticism which easily translates to other systems.

Ultimately it boils down to how highly is Godin dependent on Atletico's system and whether he has it in his skill-set to function, at a similar level, in a more conventional and normal-ish set-up. I don't quite think he is dependent on the Atletico's system to excel, although it does provide him with a better platform to showcase it on a regular basis, and I don't quite see any glaring flaws which could leave him exposed in a more conventional set-up.
