If we win tomorrow we would be 7 points off 4th.
Yeah see my post above, I was looking at the table on an App and it had updated Arsenal's games played but not yet points.

Sorry to butt in but those of you who are Utd fans believing you might still contend for 4th place let alone challenge for the title are deluded.

Those better placed than you can afford to drop points. You can't.

Be realistic, you've been rather mediocre this season by past standards. I can't see why that should change.

I mean who do you have of any quality? I mean really?

Hazard? Ozil? Coutinho? De Bruyne? Sanchez? Costa? Kane?

Honestly?

Our problem this season hasn't been lacking players of quality, but rather having players of quality who've lacked form and consistency. We're showing signs of improvement, and playing our best football in a long time. It's just whether or not we can maintain consistency and get results week in week out. Top four is most likely done (too many teams to chase--we'll need at least two of them to collapse), but as it's so early in the season, and we appear to be gaining some momentum of late, you never know. Seven points (if we win tomorrow) isn't impossible, just extremely difficult and unlikely (on paper, at least).

I didn't think we'd finish top 4 at the start of the season and still don't so I'm under no illusions to how far we acutally are off challenging, but this just seems like a bait-worthy post. Calling posters deluded who still believe we can after Leicester just winning the league no less, and saying we don't have a player of the quality of said players you mentioned just seems like you're reaching for a reaction.

Regarding the "I can't see why that should change" part - have you watched us much recently? At the beginning of the season, I didn't think we were playing that well at all, but lately we've been really good. I'm not saying good enough to go on a run and challenge, but I think it's evident that something could in fact change based off recent performances.

So sure Utd will not make it into top 4 come end of the season? Wanna bet?

Tut tut tut. Doubly frustrating because we were tremendous right up until De Bruyne hit the bar.

But then Pep gambled by replacing Sane with Clichy and things fell apart. Chelsea nicked an equaliser on the break because Bravo and our defence are poor, then they scored again because Bravo and our defence are poor, and then they pulled the game over the line with another goal because Bravo and our defence are poor.

Probably not good enough to win the title, which is okay as long as we show progress, but in isolation this game was just annoying. Chelsea definitely favourites now.
City has bought 150mn worth of cbs alone in last 3 summers. Something is very wrong there.

I agree that it's an odd idea that you guys should be "scared" as such.
But I expect deep down you realise you won't win the league under Wenger, whereas Mourinho wins everywhere he goes. He's got the performances massively improved already, and it's small margins at the moment stopping us racking the points up. That probably won't continue. For this season, we've probably blown any real chances of anything, with those 4 home draws, but we're in good stead.
I agree with everything, but us not winning the league or bottling it (which let's be fair will probably happen you're right) when it comes to the title has nothing to do with the fact that we are better than United and frankly have been since Fergie left. The league positions for the past few years reflect that. Even this season United are closer to Swansea in 20th than to us.

A top striker in Jan and United could improve ten-fold. And are too big a club to languish in mid-table.

How do flog posters like 'the unknown one.' make it out of the newbies? Who is the mod responsible for this?
His post above to me, I didn't dignify it with a response. Sounds like a 12 year old who's discovered forums.

No Matip or Coutinho, Lallana on the bench as well. My confidence for this one has dropped slightly.

Ffs no Lallana or Matip. Good thing I have to play myself cause I think this will be a very nervy one.

Not sure we'll keep a clean sheet today. Matip's been the difference at the back. We'll have to hope the front three can get a few.

United have the only player in the Prem who would walk into every other team in the world.

Pogba.

How long is Coutinho out for? Thought it looked pretty bad last week when it happened.

He thinks he'll be back for City on 31st December, but I think it might be a week or two after that. No longer than 6 weeks though.

@David Court seems to be on the WUM.
We have Zlatan, Pogba, Mkhi, Mata, Martial, DDG. Of course there's quality, that's not the problem. The problem is the number of times we've seen those names together on the pitch, and the number of chances we have put away compared to those we've made.

We're not in the title race but this is a daft post.

Mata has been excellent this season (at least as good as De Bruyne), as has Ander Herrera. Pogba is looking like the league's best midfielder of late. And there's plenty of quality elsewhere in the team - Ibra with 11 goals already (more than Kane for instance). Mkhitaryan has been a revelation since he started featuring.

Sure our rivals have some great players but we're not exactly lacking.

We have had a dry patch in the league where we've completely outclassed teams (including Arsenal) but conspired to throw away the points. It happens, especially with a team that is relatively 'new' and finding its feet. You'd have to be blind not to see the quality though.

A case in point. The only players from your beloved Arsenal who would definitely make the United XI are Ozil and Sanchez (I know you can make very strong cases for others but those two are the clear shoe ins). The difference is that Arsene Wenger has had years to put his side together and gel them. That and a little rub of the green in key moments are the main differentiators this term.

Name someone else? You can basically discount any forward because of MSN. Number 10s like KDB or Coutinho might not be quite good enough to alter a 433 system that Barca and RM sometimes play. Defenders? CBs have to get into Juve's team, or be good enough at playing out from the back to get into a Barca team. Full backs? Competing with Alaba, Alba, Carvajal, Lahm.

You could also look at the fact that Sanchez was at Real and Ozil at Madrid and they got rid. I would say both those clubs a bigger than Arsenal.

Coutinho would get into every team as well, because of his adaptability, you're right on Pogba though as well, apart from that can think of maybe, Gundogan also who would fit into every team.

Lots of opposition fans here having their digs at United it seems.

Enjoy it whilst it lasts boys. There isn't a hope in hell that Spurs will continue to finish above us - actually, how many times have they finished above us in the last 10 years? (Genuine question)

And how many trophies have Spurs won and ourselves won in the last 10 years? (Again, genuine question.)

You shouldn't forget that they will have the first stadium with full automated fire sprinkler coverage in the country, how are we supposed to compete with that?
