Certainly a bit of chat about him leaving and Mourinho all but confirmed that he won't stand in his way if he wants to go.

Everton, Watford and a few other PL clubs have been linked.

Would be a good move for everyone I think.

He's too good to be sitting on the bench for the next few years. Not good enough to be a first teamer for us anymore.

He's been a good player for us so I wish him well.

Not been the most inspiring transfer, but been a decent member of the squad and acted professionally and with dignity. Wish him all the best.

Would be a good signing for a mid-table / bottom half club.

He was never really all that good but he tried every time he played and had some good games (the 8-2 Arsenal game stands out obviously). He did also find some good form under LvG, too. He's what, 32 now? So yeah it's best for all concerned if he moves on.

Not sure what the contract situation is but if we can get £10m then i would accept otherwise i would keep him until the summer.

Has he?

I mean I like Ashley Young well enough as a person, and he seems to like the club so good on him. Have no objections to him wanting to stay here and earn the money we were silly enough to give him.

But he's on first-teamer wages and since his first season, which was fine, he's scored 6 goals in about 100 appearances. For all the shit Lingard gets even as a squad player he's been nearly twice as productive than Young in his starts so far.

There's obviously more to football than goals, and Young has performed manfully in unfamiliar positions once better players kicked him out of his best positions, but aside from his first season, and the back end of the first Van Gaal season where he was probably our least bad attacker (although I never bought into the narrative he was playing particularly well; he was just better than Di Maria who had turned into a honking pile of shite).

I think the transfer has been a spectacular waste of money on the clubs part, and Young's contribution could easily (and more cheaply) have been covered by academy players.

Surely he would be perfect for Everton if they keep the 3-5-2? Rotate with Baines who's getting old.

He didn't played much since Fergie left no ? Moyes prefered Januzaj to him, had a very good spell with Van Gaal when he outclassed Di Maria, but this and last year he was only a squad player.

Still too much paid for a squad player (or a DJ).

It'll benefit every part if he can leave today or tomorrow.

Not really sure why Jose wants to keep him as he's not played him. I can respect Ashley's desire to play more. Not been the greatest of players but was versatile and did a job when needed. But the kind of job a youngster could do cheaper. Thought originally he was going to China though. So who's most in the running to buy him?

What else should he say about a guy that is great professional, that you don't hear anything negative about in the media and seems to give his all everytime he is selected? Even if he is more or less out the door, there is no way Jose should say anything different about him. He has been a decent servant to the club and telling the media you want to keep him is adequate and respectful.

He said the same about Morgan and Memphis, though
Yeah could be a bit of that. But reports suggest that loans are being refused although would consider bids to buy. Have noticed that Jose only picks players 100% comitted to the club for his squad usually. He said he didn't play those two because he heard they were looking for transfers and Schweini was similar from the Summer and he just said that he didn't play Ashley last night because of this, so I doubt he really will play him again much if at all.

I actually don't think he'll be a success as a winger at another PL club. Similar to Stewart Downing, who was decent at Villa, he's lost something and will struggle to influence games. Young is 32 this year and nothing like the player he was at Villa. My prediction is it will be like when Park joined QPR.

Wouldn't be surprised if he has asked to leave given the unlikelihood of playing time. I do think it is time for him, a good move all around really.

It also keeps his price up!

Have always admired the fact that he has never looked short of fitness when he plays despite not playing often. Not many players are like that.

If we still had injury problems I'd keep him as he's pretty versatile. But we don't, he'll barely ever play and he's on a rumoured 100k+ a week.

I'm amazed he survived here so long, quite frankly. It shows how poor our wings have been for the last number of years. He was never good enough for us.

Did well to survive this long, at least past the summer window. Has no use in the squad. Lingard stepped up and replaced his role as a winger, and I think TFM is already a better full back.

He never was good enough for United and being the 7 highest paid player with £110,000 weekly wage is a joke and a bad investment. Since 2011 he has given us 11 goals and 18 assists, playing 113 games. His diving also did us no favours and did him no good. Hopefully he will leave as we should play youngsters before him.

Overstayed his welcome for me. Goal or two aside in his debut season he has been pretty rubbish and taking up a squad position unjustifiably.

I think he'll stay.

He'll become needed at some point in this fixture pile-up. Haven't we basically got 2 matches per week until May?

We're likely to get injuries too. And Young is versatile, so he could come in to a number of positions and do a job. Definitely need him to stay, as we're not signing anyone

The squad is more like the size Jose likes now, but I still think we would let him go if he wanted to. Even without him we have two fully decent XIs available which is certainly more than City, Liverpool or Chelsea in terms of depth.

De Gea / Romero
Valencia / Darmian
Blind / Shaw
Bailly / Smalling
Jones / Rojo
Carrick / Schweinsteiger
Herrera / Fellaini
Pogba / Mata
Mkhitaryan / Rooney
Martial / Lingard
Ibrahimovic / Rashford

+ J-C.Pereira, TFM and Tuanzebe is 25.

One thing that is true is that there is a little bit of space for a winger in that squad and no obvious player from the ressies ready to step up (the closest are all defenders really).

I would wait until next season. He could be a good cover in both full back positions with so many games left to play.

Should try to get a move to China.

If he has anything on offer from China, then he should grab that as soon as possible. We may even get a decent fee out of it.

He's an Arsenal fan isn't he. Maybe they could make a sneaky bid. I mean, they did take Welbeck off us...

Underrated as a squad player. Too inconsistent to be considered close to first choice winger but has been excellent since he slipped down the pecking order. His attitude has been spot on, no moaning, works his socks off, versatile. Has never let us down when stepping in as full-back. . If he heads off, I wish him all the best but I've no problem with him staying.

Even if we had world class wingers it wouldn't have been easy getting rid. No sane club would have been willing to pay his crazy wages.

Although he's been a good servant to the club, i didn't really want us to sign him in the first place and I'd be more than happy to ship him out.
Surely we don't need to ask for money for him?

We are battling on four fronts so I think it would be prudent to keep him around till the end of the season. He is solid if somewhat unspectacular and can do a job in a few positions which could be very handy if we suffer a couple of injuries. I don't see the rush in pushing him out of the door unless he is desperate to leave.

Did he get a new contract at one point or is he still on the original contract he got when we signed him from Villa?
