The greatest United player ever thread got me thinking... we have had a number of talented players who came in and left through a revolving door with or without leaving a mark. Of the players that only played for us for a maximum of two years, who do you reckon was the best? Who do you wish had been here a longer time? (Players who are still with us e.g. Zlatan, Mikhi don't count)

For me it has to be Tevez (if he wasn't such a c*nt) ... explosive player and definitely could have propelled us to even more success than what we achieved in the post Rooney-Ronaldo-Tevez frontline era

Veron was pretty darn good, even if it wasn't for us.

First XI would be interesting. No idea who should go in goal. O'Shea?

For us, the only players outside of Tevez I can think of were Owen and Kagawa, neither of which were that good.

Yep the Tevez situation was a bit of a shame but he showed he wasn't the nicest of characters after he left us anyway and he was actually far better for City than he was for us. He wasn't much of a stand our player here but he was a beast for City.

Not the best but worth a mention - Henrik Larsson. He was at the end of his career and was absolute class, loved every second of his short spell here and the only regret is that we didnt sign him earlier :(

We were a much better team with him though, at least in my opinion. He had so much energy and gave Ronaldo a lot of space. Had he stayed, he'd have more responsibility to score, so maybe he'd have shown his good footballl here too.

But not a nice character

I don't remember him doing a great deal for us, I think the novelty of it saw his contribution overrated somewhat.

He didnt(but he was as good as you can expect from anybody in a one month loan) and thats why i said he wasnt the best even in that short spell you could see that he was a class, his movement and touch were fantastic and he had a great understanding with other players even though he spent little time with them.

Di Maria and Tevez are the ones that stand out.

Yeah he played 7 games and had 1 goal. I definitely remember thinking he could still mix it but I don't think there was anything revolutionary about his time here and fond memories are mostly because we had a legend playing with us.

I always liked Owen Hargreaves for us for that one season I felt.

I think Tevez is the one who stands out as having played consistently well with us and contributed to success. Veron and Di Maria had the talent but didn't show it enough and I don't think many fans really complained when they left.

Wasnt out of this world, but he was good. Definitely could have done with him staying until the end of the season. We were limping over the line that year. We seemed to only use the same 15 players the last 2 months of the season.

Michael Owen - he scored the winner against Mancity in stoppage time = Legend

If we are mentioning Hargreaves then Van Persie has to be mentioned. Played 3 seasons.

I think at that point that's all we had left. Larsson gave everyone a boost it seemed when we were in danger of running out of steam at one point.

Tevez definitely, still think we should have made a bigger effort to keep him. (or convinced him to stay somehow depending on which version you believe). Deny City the marquee signing and without Ronaldo he probably would have been involved at lot more.

Can't be bothered checking, but I'm sure he scored more than that. Remember a debut goal, and also remember a Champions League goal, possibly Lille

I know if RVP doesn't qualifiy, but he was almost unused and completely mismanaged by both Moyes and LVG, so it's almost like he wasn't playing for us those 2 seasons.

Other than that, Tevez and DiMaria. Oh, and isn't Falcao scoring goals again in Monaco?

Tevez must head everyone's list, no matter how much some fans hate him. 2 incredible years in which we won everything, opting to not sign him on a permanent deal after we won the CL and instead invest that money in Berbatov turned out to be a huge mistake.

Hargreaves was here 4 years though, which shows how fecked with injuries he was.
4 years? Fecking hell didnt seem like it at all.

Does have to be Tevez though, i mean that season with Rooney-Tevez-Ronaldo was brilliant.

If I remember correctly, when Larsson left Celtic he only wanted a move to Barcelona right? I would have loved it if we signed him at that time, or even before that. Thought it was amazing to see him in a United shirt even if it was for a very short period of time and was gutted when he left.

Also thought Owen Hargreaves was fantastic for us despite all the injuries he had during his 4 year spell for us. If he kept himself free from injuries I think he would have stayed with us for a very long time. Although he wasn't as good with his passing as Carrick is, I think he could have been as useful as Carrick is in his position. His versatility and tactical awareness would have been useful for the squad today even in his mid thirties. He was faster than Carrick and they both are at pretty much the same age, and as good as I think Carrick is I think Hargreaves would have been the first option between them two if they both were free from injuries.

Hargreaves for me. I was a big fan for that one season. I wouldn't count his last 3 years because he was finished.

yes I agree with this - technically here longer but he added a bite and energy to our midfield that was missing - also felt he was MOTM in Moscow as well

Larsson was fantastic and would have been a great longer term signing

Tevez excellent and probably best overall based on impact - would have been a great player to have kept on instead of bringing in Owen

Veron was a superb player and perhaps just not cut out for PL and the 4-5-1 we were playing at the time wasn't the most fluid

I just checked that Stam spent 3 seasons at United so it has to be Tevez based on performances at United. If you interpret the question as "mentally at United" Van Persie and Yorke effectively spent one brilliant year here before starting to check out.
