Clearly Jones has been unlucky with this injury given it was Smalling who injured him. I'm happy to keep Jones, he's a better player than Smalling.
It's like some karmic revenge for all the injuries Jones has done to other players (namely Rooney but still)Hard to blame him for a broken toe caused by Smalling in training. But he is a very unlucky player.
Crazy amount of injuries there. Would be more impressive if you included the length of time out for each injury.Ankle/Foot Injury | Manchester United Injuries | 2017 March 21st
Neither are Man Utd standard and Jose will know this by now.Clearly Jones has been unlucky with this injury given it was Smalling who injured him. I'm happy to keep Jones, he's a better player than Smalling.
He's been injured far too often, and you can talk of bad luck all you like but he's clearly putting himself in danger with constant recklessness. As fans we love a player who puts his body on the line for the cause but is there any point when that player can't hold down a place in the team?
If someone gave us an out of around £20-25m I think we'd have to part ways.
Bailly is the the worst of the three!! Total chaos!Neither are Man Utd standard and Jose will know this by now.
Ship them both out and bring in a quality CB to play next to Bailly this summer.
Besides enhancing his chances with United, he also takes out some competition for the National team . Sounds like Keane is stepping up in his place in a 3 man defense. What a donkey Smalling has been this year deciding to just injure his competition so he can continue to play poorly, smart move.
Yeah maybe that figure was a little over the top, but quite young + English should mean we could hang on for more. That criteria would be acceptable for around 95% of our squad. However with regards to Jones I don't see any team paying more than 7 figures for him
Bailly is the best by far out of the 3. If they weren't English they would both be playing for a West Brom or Palace right now. Keep Jones as he doesn't play often enough to feck things up too badly and when he does he is the best out of the two. Ship Smalling out and replace him with a good defender who is capable of playing football, like all United defenders should, although it will be pretty sad to separate the chuckle brothers. Cant remember having so many donkeys as options for our defence.Bailly is the the worst of the three!! Total chaos!
Smalling and Jones (especially) can do a solid job here - I think it's important keeping the British link.
You're welcome.Don't know why but this made me laugh...
Phil Jones. Brittle bones.Phil Jones? More like Pill Jones!
I'll get my coat.
I dont even agree with this. Even when he manages to stay fit and set up a club record of 11 apperances in a row (which is embarrasing in itself) He is average at best. Bambi on ice made of glassIt's a shame, as he could be a top defender, but he's no good to us if permanently injured. He misses more games than he plays. We need to sign a world class centre half to partner Bailly next season.
Some very honest self-criticism there, PhilipI dont even agree with this. Even when he manages to stay fit and set up a club record of 11 apperances in a row (which is embarrasing in itself) He is average at best. Bambi on ice made of glass
The previous year, under LVG, Smalling was collecting all the plaudits and he believed that he had it made. He'd go home with a big smile on his face, knowing that he was MUFC's No.1 CB.What a donkey Smalling has been this year deciding to just injure his competition so he can continue to play poorly, smart move.

Best bits for me. Cheered me up no end. TaThe previous year, under LVG, Smalling was collecting all the plaudits and he believed that he had it made. He'd go home with a big smile on his face, knowing that he was MUFC's No.1 CB.
Jose joined and with Smalling no longer performing, he found himself on the bench.
Fourth choice behind Rojo, Jones, Bailly.
He was tired of sitting on the bench.
So, one night, Smalling lay awake in bed. Thinking how on Earth he could once again become first choice CB.
He imagined himself in training and wanted to improve himself, but how could he beat the pairing of Rojo and Jones, who for some bizarre reason, had conjured up an understanding during games, which meant they conceded no more than 1 goal in a match. And many times wouldn't concede at all.
This was almost like a love story, where the young male yearns for the attention of the damsel, but the damsel only has eyes for another. It was tearing Smalling up inside.
That night, Smalling continued in deep thought. As dawn broke, he came up with an idea. "YES. That's it...I've got it!!!!" he exclaimed.
A few hours later in training, he saw Jones blissfully unaware of what was about to take place. Jones was in the corner, stretching and making ridiculously silly faces.
Smalling could not understand why a fully grown man would make such faces, but he needed to remain focused.
Smalling, was preparing himself as they began the training match.
Several minutes passed, when Smalling finally plucked up the courage and stamped on Jones' toe. Jones made a noise. He made a silly face, the likes of which has seldom been seen on a football pitch. Smalling looked at Jones. Jones went to ground.
A few minutes later, it was revealed that Jones won't be playing for a while. Again. Smalling breathed a sigh of relief. He muttered under his breath, "Thank God!!! Now I will be guaranteed first team football and partnership of RoJones shall be no more.
That night, Smalling had a smile on his face, which he could not remove and he ended up having the deepest and longest sleep that he'd had in over 6 months.
You clearly missed the Bournemouth game + all past 5 seasons.Clearly Jones has been unlucky with this injury given it was Smalling who injured him. I'm happy to keep Jones, he's a better player than Smalling.
I think its more important to have defenders with brains and who don't break up every couple of games. Who cares about nationality??Bailly is the the worst of the three!! Total chaos!

Thats one mistake all season when he was just returning from an injury and looked very rusty. He's a better player than Smalling. You clearly missed the Bournemouth game + all past 5 seasons.
David MoyesI think its more important to have defenders with brains and who don't break up every couple of games. Who cares about nationality??
Team who have to comply with Homegrown quota's?I think its more important to have defenders with brains and who don't break up every couple of games. Who cares about nationality??
That's why we need to have a solid talent planning strategy. Players like Dele Alli should have been signed before Spurs could get their hands of them. There are also some top quality talent in similar lines such as Sessegnon at Fulham.Team who have to comply with Homegrown quota's?
I largely agree mate, we should have more of a conveyor belt of young talent coming through. Since Fergie retired though scouting young British players has been less of a priority with Managers struggling to keep their jobs. That's why we need to have a solid talent planning strategy. Meanwhile our kids should be promoted and played more often. When Parker got injured we gave him the boot and we turned to Gaz. We did the same to Sharpe (Ryan Giggs) and Ince (Butt) when the 'guvnor' starting acting like a dwing. Jones will always break in pieces, however, if we give games to youths they might surprise us. That's what the likes of Scholes and Giggs did and that's a way to avoid letting a kid go for free because Cleverley is more 'experienced' only to have to buy him back for loads of £££
God forbid if we're keeping players here simply because they are British.
No one's going to pay 10 million never mind 20 million plus for an injury prone average playerHe's been injured far too often, and you can talk of bad luck all you like but he's clearly putting himself in danger with constant recklessness. It ought to be injury jonesPhil Jones. Brittle bones.
I think its BS to be honest. If we had top quality players then you would have a valid point. However, what we have is a bunch of extremely average players most of whom are not fit for purpose. How difficult it is for young players to be as good as the likes of Jones, Young or Fellaini?I largely agree mate, we should have more of a conveyor belt of young talent coming through. Since Fergie retired though scouting young British players has been less of a priority with Managers struggling to keep their jobs.
I think we are alright for homegrown players right now, but in the future if we keep signing foreigners we might get to the stage where City are already at. Where we would have to sign/keep average English players simply to make the quote.
Indeed, I acknowledged earlier in the thread that price was wishful on my part. My point is I wouldn't like to see him go for next to nothing, in that case I'd rather keep him as part of the squad as he's shown this season he has his uses. However if a substantial bid came in for him I would expect us to do business. No one's going to pay 10 million never mind 20 million plus for an injury prone average player
I wouldnt I would let him go for nothing/low figure and get another player in. Jones wages would go to paying for an upgrade of him. Its persevering with players not good enough one way or another thats got us where we are now.Indeed, I acknowledged earlier in the thread that price was wishful on my part. I think it really matters. I think it matters at a very basic level (British teams should play British players) and in terms of team spirit. Otherwise what have you got? Good players with nowhere to hang your hat.I think its more important to have defenders with brains and who don't break up every couple of games. Who cares about nationality??
