Look its easy to sit on the fence and believe its all fine, the fact is clear to see he has underperformed in every departmemt.

Don't talk about there are 2 teams and FM, when you know that virtually in every home game we are being out done in the last few mins because Mourinho is allowing teams to attack us.
I didnt say it was fine. Im just obviously more realistic about football than you are.

If we win it, I'll be very happy

But we just barely made it past a very poor Celta team mostly on dumb luck alone,

They have a questionable defence, so did Celta

Unfortunatley United can't score goals, even against a shaky defence

Ajax were hammered by a very good Lyon side fithing for their lives and managing to score almost enough goals to overthrow their 3 goal lead. If we could half be arsed to play like Lyon did today and be able to convert more than 1 goal per match, I'd be confident against Ajax but the thing is we can't. And it is very difficult to keep a clean sheet versus Ajax because they have a very good striker with Dolberg who doesn't miss a chance if you give him one and the entire team always tries to attack and play forward minded football which results in chances and goals for them.
Why do you guys obsess so much about absolutely dominating the other team? How about just celebrating the fact that we made it? You didn't say Celta were 'very poor' before we played them, did you?

Garbage. Great atmosphere tonight which Jose killed off with his negative tactics. I've been a big supporter of the manager, but the lack of ambition tonight was embarrassing. Not the first time we've sat on a 1-0 and got what we deserved.
We didn't sit on it. We were off pace from first minute. They should have scored before us

There are some truly, truly embarrassing and hyperbolic responses in this match thread. The level of entitlement is astonishing.

Just to get things straight: we did not lose.

We made a European cup final.

Ajax also really struggled against Celta in the group stages this season, they shipped in 4 goals to them over the two games. I dont think they are as good as us.
Playing with the second team both of them.

Is that telling of Mourinho or the players? He had the team pressing high for the whole of the first half and the whole of the away leg. You can never judge cup finals (or semi's) tbh. Smaller teams often turn up that bit more, I don't think Mourinho should be blamed for much today. He was bullish enough to take it to Celta tactically in the first leg and we should have closed the tie there and then.
United fans are like the guy who puts a 1988 Volkswagen car in a 2017 Formular 1 race, put Sabastian Vettel behind the wheel, and then chide him for not making the car run fast enough to win the race.

Time to face it, many of our boys are just not good enough. I was shocked by the poor passes, poor dribbling skills, lack of ability to hold the ball and lack of intelligence to retain possession in the most obvious situations. Tactics can't fix such problems.

Jose does not play eye catching football and makes some questionable tactical decisions but this is not yet his team. No doubt about it.

Just came home from the bar, and the beers and away goal rule has really fecked me up today. Would celta go to the final had guidetti made it 1-2, or would we play extra time instead?

I think we have to remember that you need a bit of luck to progress in this competition. Spurs went out to Gent or Genk and should have hammered them. A few other good teams went out as well so that puts things in perspective.

We could however have made things easier for ourselves if we had scored two in the first half. That would have killed the tie. I think as well had Lingard got one of his chances in the first leg and given us a two goal cushion, that would have killed the tie.

We are through to a final, so hurrah. But the final will be a tense affair.

Of course you can, when it works its great to watch. I've really enjoyed watching AMadrid the last few seasons in the CL due to how well they defend but the effort they put in. Hardpressing all game, blocking everything, closing down instantly.
In comparison Utd were like a bunch of drunks tonight.
:drool:Hyperbolic but I get your point. True, our squad are still bad at it, and despite the obvious shambles, I quite enjoy tonight's performance.

They were through to the final if Guidetti had scored right at the end.

If he wins Europa he will be a saviour to some but if he fails i can assure you it will be because of our trepid, negative football!

I can't say I'm surprised by Mourinho's tactics, that is what he's all about but it was embarrassing today. No matter what you think about our team, Celta Vigo are clearly inferior, but as soon as we scored, we sat back and put ten men behind the ball, almost every time we've done that this season, we've conceded a goal, why does he persist with it? Why can't this manager be proactive for once, I don't get it. Apart from that, we don't look like a properly coached team, there's no combination play, the movement is poor, passing is shit and we can't keep the ball, it's so disjointed at times, so much industry but so little quality. Anyway, we're in a final and I'm glad, but we were piss poor tonight and overall we've been below par for the majority of the season.

I have to agree. That was a woeful performance from us tonight. We gifted them easy possession in the attacking third and if they had a proper striker it would have been embarrassing. I really cannot understand the tactics from Mourihno tonight.
Glad you agree (then again maybe I shouldn't!) but as to your last sentence I think the answer has to be that Jose has absolutely no faith in the current side whatsoever. If true then it is deeply troubling as just what the hell are we going to do in the summer? Replace half the team? Simply not feasible.

Thought fellaini was embarrassing tonight. Doesn't he know that people want him to play poorly? If he was a real professional he would stop scoring these important goals

Anyone know what happened that resulted in a melee @ the ended. Seemed to me like there was something racist going on, with all our coloured players going bonkers (Bailly, Valencia and Pogba).

There are some of us who support the team and support the 11 put out there. There are also some absolute tools on here who can't wait to put the boot in to a mediocre, or poor performance.

The post match thread after Bayern in Barcelona in '99 would have been filled with emos crying how embarrassing it was to have to come from behind.
I feel this comparison lacks validity.

People have become far too complacent

Displays like today deserve criticsm off the manager, for me this is just as bad as that clueless fullham game Moyes had with his 90 crosses or something. It just shows the manager is not very good.

The fact we see this kind of shit on a week to week basis, are no better than 6th in the league and have to put all our hopes to save our season in 1 match at the end of the season, kind of shows we have progressed almost nothing at all under Mourinho

I guess it's because Mourinho has absolutely no faith in the team's ability to score multiple goals.

Rubbish stuff really. We look burnt out and in the worst form of the season. Ajax is a nice team to play as they are young and a good traditional name but I think it will go down to the death again.

We were lucky to go through. We played very poorly, the strategy and tactics were wrong, and if they had a striker we would be out. There is no entitlement, just some realism and an acknowledgement that if we play like that in the final we will lose. They are none so blind who will not see.

My feeling is that at least this season Mou is more interested in what we achieve, not how we achieve it. In that sense , well success, we're in the final.

If you had told me five years ago that in 2017 Marouane Fellaini would score the decisive goal for us in an uncomfortably close Europa league semi-final against a decent Spanish team, for a result that could make or break the fortunes of the club starved of Champions League football, I'd have laughed.

We don't play Champions League caliber football.

Celta would have gone to the final, no extra time for us

2-2 would have made them the winners because they scored 2 away goals whilst we scored 1 away goal and 1 home goal. That means they would have gone through to the final.

It really was nearly over us, luckily Guiditti can't finish

That was a terrible performance. Completely got away with it and we're lucky Guidetti is muck. A Euro final, potential CL football and another trophy. It's not all bad.

When Barca/Real lost to them Celta were in top form, competing at the top of the league for CL spot, eliminating teams like Shakthar from the EL.

That was months ago, current team can't win a game if their lives depended on it, losing 4 games straight versus spanish relegation fodder, can hardly score goals anymore and have a very shaky defence. Racing Genk nearly outclassed them in QF, it is abslutley ridiculous United struggled so much against them.

The point is even we didn't struggle against them, in Celta, there we played a mature good game, only negative point there was that we have won by a bigger margin if we had finished our chances better but we were clearly the better team and Celta couldn't create a halkf decent chance against us. Now tonight we play at OT and you think it should be even easier for us but we make it so fecking hard on ourself by the way we approach a game and we make these shits look like a spanish top side while in fact they are no more than lower midtable trash atm. That is what is infuriating about us atm, we play our worst football and our games at OT this season and that is not good at all.
They openly rested their top players for the semi-finals in the losing streak. They started with Bongonda, Beauvue, Jozabed and Diop, all of whom were not starters against us. We have not had the luxery with the injuries we had and the fixture congestion. Maybe if the players arent already burnt out it would have been easier but clearly fatigued from this season has started and half of thier team are fresh.
