Some good defensive work but I'd like to see more going forward. Still this is clearly the game plan, and it's been done well so far.

We were playing good football till our goal- till the time Mata was getting involved. His contribution has waned as the half has progressed and we haven't had a half decent chance since then

We need two more asap. There are at least 6-7 players out there I wouldn't trust to open a soda can without fecking it up.

Just imagine what the last 10 mins of this game will be like if it's still 1-0

Rashford needs support and better service. Mikhi either better get his arse in gear or get hauled off. Everyone else, outstanding.

I'm not as unhappy with Rashford as many here seem to be. His touch has let him down at times but his movement has been fantastic and has been our only attacking option.

We're not playing well, but Ajax are absolute bobbins.

Mhiki needs to come off, or he'll be sent off. Looks totally uninterested and unfit.

Ajax are nothing special, in all honesty, it's all on us. I got told I'm underrating them this past week but I don't think they've proved me wrong so far.

Hope to feck we don't just retreat in the second half. We should be finishing this game with Rashford, Martial, Lingard as a 3, taking the game to them and killing them on the break.

Hopefully at some point we play..but out passings been poor on the counter so it's maybe smart that we're so deep

Playing okay on a whole, defending very well, but unfortunately it feels like the sort of game that Ajax can nick in a matter of minutes.

We've been good, and aggressive in defensive situations.

Attacking-wise, we're absolutely appalling. Lacking in composure, hoofing it up to Fellaini but never really moving the team up quickly enough to make use of his areal prowess. Rashford, Mkhi not at their best, but we're basically asking it to do it themselves.

As long as we win though, even if I do feel our chances would be much better if we went in for the kill. Expect another repeat of the Celta Vigo near-miss, but hopefully with the same outcome.

PS: Griezmann up front with Fellaini as the ten in every big game next year. You heard it here first ;-)

Definitely need to switch the play quicker, our best moments have come when half their team is pressing Darmian, Mhki and Pogba over the left side and Valencia has had acres to break down the right

I'm not gonna lie, if this ends 1-0 thanks go a deflected goal it will be incredibly underwhelming.

A game isn't about the goal itself. It's about what happens at each given scoreline.

A deflection is one knock of the ball through the whole game.

Feels like a bit of a basketball game to me. We are happy to sit in a half court defense, while they want to play the full court press.

Jose's tactics are looking good. Makes me nervous as hell but good. I think Ajax's strong spell in the last 20 minutes will give Mourinho a lot to talk at half time.
Interesting. His tactics are the reason we created feck all upfront and failed to even try to control the ball. I guess Ajax wasn't very threatening but it's certainly not a tactical masterclass.

    Halfway there folks....

Would love another goal to really help put it away but will take a win whatever way it comes!

We played well first 20 than sat back a bit too much for my liking. Defended well but would like us on the front foot again

Fellaini has been good, but lumping it towards him every fecking time we get the ball in our own half is a bad idea as we give up possession way to easily.

Not enough men on the counter as well. Rashford, Mata and especially Mkhitaryan need to step it up.

Would be good to see Lingard or Martial come on at half time for more pace on the wings.

    Pogba looking pure class.

Miki is an absolute disgrace, possibly his worst ever perfomance and that is saying something.
If he stays on, we are likely to concede down his wing.

Both teams are caricatures. We're caricatures of an English hoofball team, they're caricatures of sterile possession. Pogba and Traore are the 2 who have a spark.

The whole world is watching, potential players in the market can be put off by this. 1-0 so early is not the time to drop deeper.

Fairly pleased with that, barring Mkhi having the first touch of a trampoline.

Tactically we look solid, not giving them a sniff to create.

I thought Blind and Darmian would be our weak link, but they've been solid.

Mhki is cracking under the pressure, can't really blame him however, whenever he got the ball he was closed down very quickly. He chooses the risk free route and just punt it forward. Not at all a praise, nor is it the ideal decision, but at least it's not leading to goal scoring opportunity for Ajax. With that said, we might want to sub him around 50-60mins for Lingard, his energy alone would be best for defending that left flank, something I just don't see Martial or Rashford doing well.

Good performance, kept Ajax at bay more or less.

With better precision on the breaks we could've created more as well. One thing is Smalling e.g., but I think Mkhi and even Mata has squandered a few good opportunities to send Rashford through (who haven't been excellent either).

All in all, solid as a team. Ajax has been terrible, I suspect partly because we've stifled them.

Can't blame Mkhitaryan.......we are not playing football
Because only our front players are pressing hes having to cover 2 players at once. Very difficult and also on a yellow. If we came out of our own shell and let him play with a little less worry about defensive duties i recon he may look a bit better out there.
