I'm almost certain that all this 702 business is related to the most incriminating evidence on Trump and his fellow Republicans. They're trying their utmost to ensure that it is deemed illegal and inadmissible. If they succeed it will be a huge blow to the investigation.
From what little I've seen of the hearing, I believe this is perfect for GOP and Trump. They get to claim the moral high ground that nothing was found after the public hearing and I'm guessing we will see a few tweets from Trump using today's hearing to drive the conversation towards how the MSM are trying to "victimize him" etc etc.

That's a hell of a question to Rosenstein there.
Its not CNN that have hyped this up. These are the biggest hearings since Anita Hill/Watergate/ or even McCarthy. Everyone will be watching.
