Learn to read. I didn't. But the way he skinned the full back was brilliant. The cross wasn't great, but maybe not everyone in the box should have run towards the first post. The area he put it into wasn't that daft, but he should have looked up first. But in short - it's a meaningsless friendly against Barcelona, I'm actually able to enjoy one of our players putting one of their on their arse despite it not resulting in a goal.
You said somebody should have been there. So maybe you should learn to write?

Unless somebody was 12 foot there was no chance of being there.

Calm down and appreciate the football being played. We're clearly not putting in the legwork needed to beat Barça and are treating it like a run-out so leave the confirmation bias at home.

Yeah, we got it the first time.

I just don't agree with the general view of United fans, that Valencia is a solid right-back and a consistent performer. Consistent at what? All I ever see him do is jog forward with the ball until he meets an opposition player, then turn and pass the ball back. Virtually every time!

He rarely attempts to run past players and when he actually does, his crosses are just hit and hopes. I just expect more from a right-back when we have so much possession - especially from a former right-winger.
I agree that Valencia needs to do better offensively, and that poor cross at the end of the half is an example of where he needs more precision. However, when we say Valencia is consistent we mean he is reliable. He has fantastic conditioning running up and down that wing, for many times a season, but defensively he is solid, strong and positionally wise pretty good too.

Of course the modern full back needs to contribute a number of assists, but for the first and foremost role of a fullback, he's exceptional.

His mistake today was very much that, a mistake. He was off balance and unfortunately that let Neymar in to score.

What can I say? We're up against a top, top quality side, and it has shown. Barca have toyed with us, at times. Don't think it helps that we're playing a 4231, consisting of Carrick and Pogba in midfield, though.

If we had two dynamic players like Herrera playing deep, then it may have worked. That said, we can't even keep the ball at the moment. Barca press very well, and by the time you look up and find a player, they have won it back.

It's only a pre season game, but hopefully Mourinho can see why he can't go with a 4231 against top sides, who keep the ball well.

Second half, I'd like to see a midfield three. We've struggled to keep the ball, because of the lack of options in the middle. Plus, Mkhitaryan hasn't really done anything of note as the CAM in the first half.

So we are going to sit here and act like the last couple of years under Fergie we weren't already slipping? we played some awful football, and won that last title mostly off the strength of the confidence/aura/belief he instilled in the players.

Like i said, Valencia has been a consistent 6, with the odd good performance, this in a team of wildly inconsistent players made him seem better than what he is. The praise he gets by United fans is laughable at times. Needs to be tossed in the bushes.

Didn't think we were that bad.

Bit open and rushing it in attack trying to counter but it's fun watching.

It´s only pre-season... but dear me Lindelöf has been so bad. Seems to be afraid to get anywhere near their attackers.

Also a typical Mkhitaryan performance. Can´t keep the ball and misplaces the easiest passes. Can only hope that Mourinho isn´t planning with him as our starting nr. 10.

We all know what happened when United beat Barcelona 3-1 in the previous pre season game... United ended 5th. Preseason is not a yardstick to judge a season. How often must that be repeated?

 It was perfectly headable at the far post. I'm pretty sure it was anyways, but I'm not that arsed.

Just noticed there's meltdown here, what the hell ?

Away from Blind frustrating the hell out of me, I enjoyed the half and we looked competively good at most minutes. People are expecting us to take possession from Barca or what lol ?

I'm happy with our performance away from our full backs.

The speed of their interplay and attacking from Barcelona was too good. I noticed it vs Madrid too. These teams just move the ball better than us and are more decisive in the final third.

Really need Shaw to get better soon and find his form.
I've lost confidence in him, always injured. I hope he can prove me wrong though. Don't know why we weren't in for Mendy. Think he would've been perfect for us.

Its not about that , it's about how we use the ball and win it back.

People going on about carrick 1st its pre season relax 2nd we all know that he is not fit to play in a midfield two especially against a team that will keep the ball for most of the match. In a serious match I wouldn't see Jose play him in a two against Barca unless we were short of midfield options

I'm afraid to compare a lot of the posters on here to something because I might insult what I'm comparing them to. The state of this collective mind here...

Not caught any of the match so far, heard we haven't been great but a few people on Reddit were saying Pogba had a good half, is that the case?

Did you? DID YOU?!!!!!!!
Afraid so.

It's mental in here though, sometimes I just want to say to everyone to calm down and appreciate the football being played. We're clearly not putting in the legwork needed to beat Barça and are treating it like a run-out so leave the confirmation bias at home.

Rashford cross for Lukaku has been good. But he tries to do too much 70% of the time. Anyway, that will get ironed out eventually.

Pogba is immense. He'd walk into any team in the world. He's just a fecking beast. Amazing at everything.

De Gea made two crucial saves which I don't think many goalkeepers save.

Because they have better players and two athletic fullbacks who can deliver a final ball when needed.

Yup plus De Gea being the best goalkeeper in the world and Rashford having few great moments, too.

Pass back/side ways? I'd rather we lose 5-0
If you don't pass it , you can't create anything. Ignoring possession based principles will get you no where in this game. Being stubborn does not help. Lvg was one of the best in the game .

You'd rather loose 5-0 than learn to challenge the other team .

yes, he's been our best outfield player.

This must be a warning from Mourinho to make it clear the defensive midfielder should be here already.

You can see in this match, playing against a team like Barcelona, how good it is to have Pogba in the team.
Strong and composed on the ball. He doesn't fear the pressing of Barcelona. Covers the ball so well and when Barca can't get the ball of him - using two or three players to press him - space will open up for our players.
