But the same folks are happy to spend 160 million on a one season wonder who starred for Monaco? It doesn't add up.

The reality is that transfer markets are as much about subjective opinions as stats.

You cannot base everything on goals and assists otherwise Pogba (and most of the rest of our team), based on last season is not worth the money we spent on him.

On the contrary, I think people underrate Rashford. There is no way, he should not be listed among the top 10 young (under 20/21) emerging stars in world football today. No way.

At 19, the kid is playing regularly for one of the world's elite clubs and playing an important role in his national team. Read what Ronaldinho, Scholes, Xavi, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Jose etc have said and are saying about the kid. They are not 'hyping'.

What their true value should be is a different subject but to say that in a market where Mbappe goes for 160 million, Rashford should go for less than half that amount, is stretching it.
I might just be shit at googling, but what did Xavi and Ronaldinho have to say about him?

Rashford would be valued at 200m or thereabouts.

Cause we don't want to sell him and any team that REALLY wants him will have to pay crazy money to get him. Simple as that.

CIES football observatory uses scientific methods to estimate player transfer value.

They estimate that Marcus Rashford is worth €91.4M.

They estimate that Kylian Mbappe is worth €133.8M.

Obviously biased but I don't think this is accurate

About as cringey as this.
Most definitely!

Without taking away anything from him, the reality is that Mbappe has had only one super season playing for a Monaco team brimming with talent and on the ascendency. Meanwhile, Rashford emerged in a more or less unbalanced, struggling United team just beginning to find its feet and lacking in confidence. It is no coincidence that Rashford is announcing himself well this season when the team is stronger, more confident and capable of winning.
This is such an important aspect of any given players performances (bar maybe the big three), and a fact happily ignored by the stats warriors. I can't believe I actually feel the need to point this out, but this is a team sport after all.. Also, how many games has Rashford actually played as a striker? Only after Zlatan was injured and earlier when we didn't have anyone else, in a team struggling to score goals.

For the record, I can see as well as the next person that Rashford is some ways begind Mbappe, who without a doubt is a once in a generation talent. Again, I feel compelled to share something every United supporter should know, but Rashford started training professionally as a striker less than a year before his debut for the first team. He's much less refined than Mbappe, but in most things he's on the same level imo. Not even going to bother with the financial acrobatics because, who cares? We're not going to sell him, and if we are, it will be because something went terribly wrong with his development. Looking at the money spent on those other youngsters, I bet Mourinho grins extra wide every game Rashford delivers the goods, which will probably be a lot of games. Best thing LVG ever did for us was gambling on a teenage manc from our academy.

It's not scientific methods, it's crap methods.

Mbappe can actually shoot/finish and strike a ball properly. Where as Rashford struggles with that. Other than that there isn't much between them.
Oh yeah, demonstrated perfectly by that miss-hit goal 2 days ago...

Is that the same rating system that had Alli and Kane as the 2nd and 3rd most valuable players in the world at the back end of last season? I hate to disappoint you, but I think it's managed by @GlastonSpur

Mbappe plays in the French league...even Depay is getting goals there.
Yeah, and he also plays in the Champions League where he scored 6 goals in 9 games

@Bwuk
What record does Asensio have though? He's not even a starter for Madrid?
Im a huge fan of his but his rise has been fairly recent
Because it's Real Madrid, the same club where Isco was constantly performing yet was constantly being benched behind the bigger names like Bale and James. Asensio isn't exactly going to be starting ahead of Isco, Ronaldo or Bale (their highest paid player and a president favourite) unless they're injured.
And it's a known fact that this is a skill that can never improve for a 19 year old.
Some things are just natural, his awful composure can't really be taught, it's something natural from very little. Just because he's young doesn't mean he'll improve in all aspects. He does have the dedication though.

I think Rashford is a top talent, but I don't see him being as good as claimed. I doubt he'll become a key player for a big team in the future weather thats here or elsewhere. Compare Rashford with Dembele and Mbappe. Dembele is world class, Mbappe is on the verge (slightly more longevity is needed) however Rashford isn't either, if we do sign a better RW, he'll just be potential.

Wow one half decent finish out of the hundreds of poor attempts he's had. I love the guy he's a great player but lets not kid ourselves, finishing isn't his strong point currently and he is nowhere near Mbappe in terms of finsihing.

Tbf, you said he couldn't strike a ball properly which is false as he has a pretty good shooting technique. And even in terms of finishing Rashford is pretty good at instinctive finishes.

It's really the one on ones or finishes where he has more time where he struggles. Should improve as he grows in confidence and experience hopefully.

But if he can't strike a ball properly, how odd he possibly manage it?!

Ronaldo wasn't exactly some composed goal scorer at 19. Kane was plying his trade in the Championship and as a bit part player for Spurs. Maybe he doesn't develop into a clinical striker, but missing some 1-on-1's at age 18/19 isn't some telling sign he won't get there. It's much more important that he can get into those spots and create those situations at this stage.

I am not disappointed. I was simply providing context around a transfer valuation discussion, using a source that has methodologies for nominal valuations.

You don't need to be able to strike a ball with proper technique to score a goal. But to be fair saying he can't strike a ball properly was a little harsh from me. He just seems to have a very awkward technique for shooting at times and isn't great in 1 on 1 situations. If he can improve his finishing he will be unstoppable.

No you don't. He has great technique when striking the ball, it's just a little composure he lacks is all. He'll get that after another a season or so.

Ronaldo had horrible finishing at 19. Mostly a terrible striker of the ball with no control of where his shot would end up.

It doesn't provide context, there's several examples within that list that shows it to be absolute cap. You might as well use Fifa 17 or Gwen from your local knitting class as a source.

I wouldn't call his technique great. He seems to want to knuckle shot the ball like Ronaldo, seems to be all the rage in recent years.

He really needs to learn to open his body up and stroke the ball into the corners. Too often his shots are hit straight at the keeper.

Like his goal against West Ham in the cup? There is plenty of examples where his shooting technique is too quality. Surely it isn't a case of technique but shot choice on that basis then.

Exactly like that. But that was 18 months ago and he hasn't done anything close to that since.

Most of his shots are like the City debut goal. Straight through the keeper rather stroking it into the corners.

Rashford 200m

At best Rashford would sell for 65-75m even in this market.

That is simply your opinion, and does not add much to the discussion to be honest.

Nah, more than 100 I reckon. He's not playing for some French team or something, it will take a lot to get him away from us.

Granted it hit the post, but he definitely has a variety of shots.

His composure is very good. What the feck are people on about? Do they even know what the word means? He's cool under pressure, strikes at the right time and maintains his body shape well. He's just been unlucky with accuracy, that's all. So was Zlatan last season but his record over the years shows how that doesn't always tell the whole story.

World's Elite club? we are Europa Champions not Champions League champions. We finished 6th last time out. I don't expect Rashford to play regularly in an actual elite club, one that can compete strongly in the champions league. If he does and we do, then fair play.

Well, most people right now will disagree with you on that. United is as elite as any other team out there right now. We just played the Super Cup, we are on top of the premier league table at the moment and are odds on favourites with City to win the title, we are in the champions league, we are coached by arguably the best manager in the world. We just recruited one of the finest young strikers in Europe and one of the best DMs in world football. We are looking absolutely solid on the pitch and on the account sheets. Arguably, the third best player in the world (Griezeman) , was heading here but for a last minute hitch.

If Dembele's Dortmund and Mbappe's Monaco are good enough pedestals for those lads, then United is certainly good enough for Rashford as a pedestal.

Isn't this a contradiction?

You think he is a 'top talent' yet you don't see him becoming a key player for a big team in the future?

The kid is already very good. With his work ethics, Jose's management and being surrounded by some good mentors (e.g Zlatan) in the United dressing room, I really don't see him outside of that elite bracket in the next few seasons.

No you are not mate.

Sorry, I was just reeling out names and got some mixed up. It was Ronaldo de Lima and and not Ronaldinho. R9 actually said really good things about the kid.

Here's a link: https://www.thesun.co.uk/archives/f...in-manchester-united-starlet-marcus-rashford/

Ronaldinho's comment was brief but coming from him, he really doesn't need to say much. When he says a young player has 'quality', then the young player has quality. He posted this on Instagram after meeting Rashford:

"He has quality as a footballer, besides being a good and humble person."

Ah, fair enough. Easy to get muddled up. I remember that R9 comment, Rashford must have been well chuffed when he read it.

Don't forget about this talent we have right in front of us, special player.

We all love United
He's going to be stuck at number 19 as now Lukaku is going to be the number 9 shirt wearer for a long while yet, isn't he? Don't think he'll get number 7 by the way

What a talent we have here
