Think Martial is out of favor again due to some perceived lapses in training. Jose hinted as much when he said he started Lukaku and Matic every game.

Very annoying, this is a game made for him or even Rashford.
Why are you saying "perceived" ? Do you doubt it to be true ?

Both lack any kind of pace as well. In fairness no one had a good first half there. Sanchez best of a bad bunch maybe.

Lingard and Rashford would completely change the dynamic of the game .
I edited sinse your reply, apologies.

We'll see both at some point.

Also don't think 433 was right today, reverting back to 4231 and bringing Martial on for Mata would be an improvement.

Rondon has made Lindelof look distinctly average in that first half. Not a patch on Bailly.

Just seen the penalty incident. If it wasn't Herrera I think he may have given it. Refeeres are more aware of his antics and they're more reluctant to give him things. Oliver didn't give him a penalty in the City game either.

Just go 442. Rashford, lukaku, martial and Sanchez all on with pogba and matic/herrera in midfield. Press high, play quicklyn attack down the wings. Stretch them. That's how you beat park the bus shit teams.

Everybody wants to get on the ball and be a playmaker while no one wants to make runs to create space.
    Correct.

Sanchez and Pogba had a break away and neither of them tried to run past the line and stretch the play.

Everyone guilty of it but that was a good example, as was almost every other minute of that half i suppose

What logic are you using, to ask that Shaw start?
Shaw has been crap for 90% of the time he has been at MUFC, for almost 4 years. He should be sold.
And who would you take off to get Martial/Rashford on?
    Sanchez and Mata

I don't use that insult lightly, but I think it really was Van Gaal bad.

We had that brief flurry with the penalty appeal and the two foster saves. But other than that it's been pretty dreadful really.
Yeah agree, felt very van gaal-esque at times.

Lukaku should have at least a goal and there was a penalty that wasn't given. It still doesn't excuse how bad that half was, though.

The midfield was very poor. Matic has been sloppy and Pogba...well, what do you call that handball? Herrera was the only MF who made a decent account of himself IMO.

I was asking myself before the game why we're playing Mata over Lingard when Jesse can be so effective at creating space. I would make that change, maybe get Rashford into the game to put some speed on the wing.

I'm trying to keep faith in Lindelof but he looks damn vulnerable when under pressure. Doesn't jump to defend crosses, gets turned way too easily. I'm fearing we've got the Swedish version of John Stones.

No width today with Mata and Sanchez spending most of the time in the centre.
Hope we stretch them more in second half.

There are so many questions to be asked about this first half but I think the most pressing question is why the feck are we sitting back when West Brom have the ball. They are 20th in the league for heaven sake, we should be pressing them as high up the pitch as possible.

I still don't see what many of you like in Mata. He's pretty pointless.

Ashley Young is so shite that his own teammates ignore him when he's in space. My God we need a new LB desperately.

It's just dawned on me that we've struggled against West Brom at home in recent years. They beat us in Moyes season I think. We lost 0-1 in 14/15 and RVP missed a penalty. Last season we drew 0-0. This season again 0-0 so far.

I really like Lingard atm, would prefer him on than Martial tbh. God knows what frame he’s in.

If it’s pure speed getting behind west broms line we’re after I’d use rashford.

I thought that after I'd replied.

Back four should have a quiet half again so not concerned with them really.

Lingard / Martial / Rashford need to come on soon for some bloody movement!

    Let's see how it goes!

And then come the end of the game it will be "Rashford is shit on the right hand side, Pogba doesn't play well in a two" etc etc etc.

If it was so simple we would all be football managers.

To think Sanchez is keeping both our young stars out of the team and that for one good half against City for the rest he has been totally crap, go figure.

This was my dream line-up hoping Herrera would unleash pogba the beast. By beast I didn't expect pogba the donkey. I don't even know what to do now.

Agree about Mata. He's a nothing player. Reminds me of Tom Cleverley tbh

Sanchez or Mata not Sanchez and Mata. Too much creativity and not enough pace for my liking.
It can be Sanchez and Mata in a 4-2-3-1....In a 4-2-3-1 Mata and Sanchez can play alongside someone like a Lingard....But I agree,Mata and Sanchez can't play in a 4-3-3...

    I'm a big Mata fan.

He's been very poor today though.

As I said 4-3-3 not needed for a game like this, absolutely no need for Matic, Pogba and Herrera all to be occupying the same area of the pitch especially when you play a CB like Lindelof

Get Matic off and put Martial on at HT
It's got nothing to do with 433. We simply aren't moving the ball quick enough.

It is true in the sense that Jose certainly isn't satisfied. I am not sure if another manager would be that harsh. Got no opinion on it other than the fact that I don't like losing Martial for this reason.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

He's important for us when we play 4231, he gives us that extra passer and vision that we need. We almost always play terrible when he's not there in that formation.

He's overkill when we already have three midfielders though, and what we need are runners and finishers.
