---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------Claude Makeléle-----------Lothar Matthaus----------------
Messi---------------------------Maradona-----------------Cristiano Ronaldo
---------------------------Ronaldo Fenómeno------------------------------
Justification:
- Gianluigi Buffon is still a top keeper at his 40's. He was a beast during his 20's. He may not have the foot work of Neuer or Valdes, but his handlinh technic, anticipation, positioning and determination made him a fantastic goalkeeper.
- Lilian Thuram: not as skilled as Dani Alves, but solid as a rock defending, and his forward runs were amazing. Plus his crossing was quite good.
- Jurgen Kohler: a strong and determined defender, who was excellent in antecipation and could play from the back instead of hoofiing it.
- Paolo Maldini: consistent until his retirement, he was a fantastic defender.
- Roberto Carlos: he was the terror of the oposition forwards and defender: explosive left back, very agressive when defending (sometimes too much ehehehe).
- Makele: the best defensive pivot midfielder I've seen play. Not only his tacticl knowledge was amazing, but he could dictate the tempo when his team was in possession.
- Matthaus: Maradon labeled him as as one of the best players he ever faced, because he could do almost every details of football right: defending, attacking, passing, socring, dribling, etc.
I don't think I need to justify the other 4 choices
