Jerome Boateng

How old is he now?

I can see the links to us for several CB;s rumbling on, Varane, Toby etc.

Not the most pressing area to address in the squad but if we did get a genuine top class addition we could finally sell Smalling and Rojo

Should go to Juventus. They'd get him fit and get 5 years out of him.

If we're signing defenders, 2 new fullbacks should be on the agenda before any CB.

One of the best CBs in world football nowadays.

Staying at Bayern anyway.

He hated Manchester before, what makes anyone think he’d love it now?

So the actual article is this long:

Manchester United target Jerome Boateng is 'considering his future' amid interest from the Old Trafford giants.

The Bayern Munich defender continues to be linked with a switch to the Red Devils and has refused to rule out a move away from the Allianz Arena this summer.

He told Socrates magazine: "I’ve experienced everything at FC Bayern, and I am slowly coming to a point where I must answer myself certain questions.

"What are the goals I have not reached yet? Do I, time and time again, want to prove myself at the same club with the same pre-conditions?’

"Those are not necessarily classic questions regarding the career, but vital questions and, in the end, questions that drive people."

And it's the Mirror. Hardly worth even discussing.

From his recent quotes it sounds like he might be open to a new challenge, but the Premier League isn't new to him, so I'd not be surprised to see him angle for a move to Italy or Spain, possibly even France with PSG.

You just don't say no to that kind of player. Instant buy.

Sule seems quality so it's probably not impossible to get Boateng from Bayern.
But perhaps we are scared of buying older, slightly injuryprone players from them..

I haven't seen that particular interview, but thus far his talking about going abroad was more philosophical than concrete. And like ten days ago he said that he has a contract at Bayern, that he's happy there and doesn't want to leave at all.

"I want to get fit now, play the world cup and then the new season with Bayern starts."
That's another quote from May 8th.

Really don’t rate him if I’m honest. Would prefer Toby if we were to get an experienced CB.

The best defenders in Europe are hardly something to sneer at. And no, we don't just need full backs.

Copied from the transfer thread:

Wouldn't mind that from a Bayern and United perspective. The greater risk would be on the team taking him in since he has had injury problems for the past two seasons, Bayern less so because they have a ready made replacement in Niklas Sule, who is certainly on the verge of being world class (they will have to find a backup CB though).

For United, they will get a defender who is still world class on his day and his experience at the biggest stages will be invaluable for the team lacking a leading CB.

He is 29 turning 30 in a few months. He is very talented and is the leader we need. The injuries are worrisome but we absolutely should look into signing him. His contract runs until 2021 so he won't be cheap.

Whenever I see his name mentioned it always reminds me of this

Seriously this age argument again :rolleyes::rolleyes:

It's not like we are going to turn into AC Milan by buying 35 year old every season. 29 is going into the prime of anyone player's career (as long as they look after themselves - not like Rooney). I know your saying we should sign him but it should be due to his football ability, not oh well he's 29 we shouldn't buy him because we are becoming a retirement home

He is a crock. Wouldnt leave if he was fit. He just isnt fit and thus good enough over a season and wants a big fat paycheck. No thanks, stay clear of this one

Hm, the first few words triggered you so hard that you didn't even bother reading the rest of the post...

Another injury prone defender

The funny thing is that people rave about Anderweireld who has played only 8 more games than Boateng in the past 2 seasons (club level). If we are taking risk on a talented but injury prone players, I`d rather sign the guy who's won a world cup and a CL.

Are you saying players usually enter their prime at 29?
